Rage Anarchy Edition PC

Hey guys,

I'm actually looking to buy Rage: Anarchy Edition for PC, but I can't seem to find it anywhere... Not interested in second hand copies (can you even sell second hand, considering that the key is supposed to tie with Steam?), any ideas...?

Regards,
Abhishek

Why is the LeadTek GTX580 so Cheap?

Hey, just wondering why the LeadTek GTX 580 is so cheap... I'm looking at Compuzone's Price List (11th Aug, 2011), and honestly... Lol...

The difference between a LeadTek GTX580, and a Gigabyte one is RM 450... Like, the LeadTek is RM 1.3K, while the Gigabyte one is 1.75K...

Like, I get it that these guys wanna be competitive with their pricing and what not, but that's a huge difference... I mean, even ASUS whom I know put a premium on their cards are at RM 1.75K (though their's is more after market than the others)...

So what's the deal, how come so cheap? I buy 2 LeadTeks, and I'm saving RM 900... Chip in 30 bucks more, and that's technically a free Core i7 2600K right there... Lol...

Upgrade Question

Hey guys,

I wanted to know if upgrading to the Sapphire 5870 Toxic would be worth it with my current rig... I've included my specs below:

CPU: AMD Phenom (1st Gen) 9600 BE @ stock 2.3 Ghz [39 C @ Stock Cooler, Ambient - 24 C]
Motherboard: MSI K9A2 Platinum (V1)
RAM: 8Gb (4x2Gb) Kingston DDR2 800Mhz 5-5-5-18
Old GPU: Sapphire 3870x2 @ Stock clocks (Died*)
Current GPU: nVidia 8800 Ultra @ Stock clocks
HDD: Seagate 500GB SataII 32mb Cache, 7200 RPM
PSU: Coolermaster 620W

Notes about GPU: I was using the 3870x2 up until a few months ago when the fan decided to die on me... I was squeezing every inch out of it, with its core OC'd to 875Mhz, and its mem at 2200Mhz Effective... The fan, was also at a constant 100% (Loud as hell)... When the thing died, my friend gave me his old 8800 Ultra for temporary purposes, and that's where I am...

I was thinking of switching over to the Sapphire 5870 Toxic, but I wanted to know if I'll be severely bottle-necking the thing... I could bump my CPU to probably 2.5Ghz with a slight increase in heat and some volt-tweaking... I am also considering replacing the main HDD with a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200 32mb cache HDD...

My primary concerns are:

PSU not being strong enough - I've heard that most come at about 80% efficiency, (which from my understanding means that a 620W PSU really only puts out about 496W tops), and to add to that, PSU efficiency drops over the years of usage... My rig is about, 18 months+ old now...
The Motherboard/architecture choking the GPU - The NorthBridge FSB is at about 1800 Mhz, I'm concerned about the bandwidth being choked by the HT link (which is also at 1800Mhz)... Not to mention that I know the Processor is definitely a choke, but I wonder how severe it is going to be...

Then there's also the question of how choked my HDD will be (the Spinpoint F3 comes in at about 124.8 MB/s average read and 96.7 MB/s average write - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2...-1tb-review/10) with this setup...

Thoughts? Alternatives? Make-shift solutions?

Looking for iPhone developers

Hey guys,

How's everyone doing?

I'm considering establishing a game development studio, which would focus on iPhone based game development.

I'm testing the waters right now by asking if there're any iPhone game programmers and artists around...

I wanna get to know some basics, things like average years of experience, background (did you learn via trial and error, or went through a course), expected pay, and so on... In general, are there problems with game development on the iPhone that need expertise, etc.

Would obviously be a full time job and all that, but please be advised, this is not a recruitment drive or anything.

I'm not hiring anyone, like I said, I'm just testing the waters. It would be nice to know that there are developers and artists out there for the iPhone, so whenever the studio does come around, I'll know who to look up... :-p

Regards,
Jasonbrinks

Gaming Careers in KL/Singapore

Hey guys,

I'm actually wondering what the current situation is like for the gaming industry here in KL, or in Singapore. What are the companies looking for in new employees? What opportunities do fresh grads have in this industry?

All in all, can you guys please enlighten me with what YOU think, on the following:

- How alive is the gaming industry in KL?
- How alive is the gaming industry in Singapore?
- What do you think gaming corps want from their newly hired workforce?
- What specific skill sets are being looked into by the gaming industry on the whole?
- And lastly, How valid is the following statement: "I intend to work as a creative lead for a game company, whereby all (or a majority of) creative direction comes from me. This extends to story, game mechanics, concepts, etc."

Thanks for your posts guys... :-)
