Personal financial goals are truly objective. Come out with a number & work backwards towards it. A simple example: RM1,000,000 in 30 years. Working backwards, I would need to save or earn an extra RM33,333.33 every year or RM2777.78 every month. A goal is the destination. How do we get there? What tips, tricks, tweaks can we apply to get there faster? I appreciate if you can share 1) Your financial goals, 2) tips and tricks of your managing money and of creating additional streams of income.

Here's mine:

Financial Goals:
My financial goals are quite straight-forward and without "hoo-ha". It follows a 4-stage process.
1. Financial Stability: 6 months of basic expenses put in savings and/or fixed deposit accounts
2. Financial Security: Passive income to cover basic expenses
3. Financial Freedom: Passive income to cover monthly expenses
4. Financial Abundance: Passive income to cover dream life.

Each stage has a magic number. I'm 21 year-old this year. Main income comes from being a sales representative of an exciting internet company. I'm at Stage #1- Financial Stability. I figure out that I only need a bare minimum of RM1000 to survive. My magic number for stage 1 is then RM6000. I put aside RM800 every month for this purpose. I'm within months of hitting this target.

Tips and tricks:
1) I employ the jar system (inspired by T. Harv Eker) to manage my personal finance. Here's the breakdown of my income (100%). Necessities (50%), financial freedom account (15%), long-term saving for spending (10%), education (10%), entertainment (10%), give (5%). I combine financial freedom and long-term saving account together at the moment so i can hit Stage 1 fast.

2) I only use notes when paying for things. I religiously collect coins. At the end of every day, i will put the coins into a container. Don't underestimate this little habit. Every month, i save an additional RM30-50 because of this.

3) When eating outside, i order drinks after my food has arrived. This way, I only drink 1 cup per meal instead of drinking half of it before the food even arrives and end up ordering another cup. Either that or I drink plain water.

4) Pay myself first. Paycheck comes in, i stash 25% away immediately.

5) I use this fantastic app called ixpenseit on itouch to track expenses. So intuitive it can create graphs and charts to show you a breakdown of your monthly expenses.

6) When buying electronics, i use LYN to scout for the best prices. This is my greatest use of this forum.

Hey guys, i got a friend. He's about 30 years old. Been working in retail for his entire working life. Obviously it isn't a scalable career, since 10 years moving in this direction, he's still earning less than RM1500 per month. Any suggestions and ideas on how to launch him into a more scalable career, first off starting with the required education. He seems the type of person built for the hospitality industry. It might seem too late for a 30 year old guy to go back to school. But hey, he has got 30 more years of working life ahead of him! So better now or never. Awaiting your responses.

I'm wrapping a learning project around http://www.euginn.com/, my personal branding site. Its mainly to learn about basic coding, web design, content management etc. I think the best way for a beginner like me (coming from engineering and business background) is to code and customize by mimicking at first. So may i ask, is it possible to customize my wordpress website according to the "source" of another website. I'm currently looking at David Wolfe's website (http://www.davidwolfe.com/). He's a Raw Food guru btw. Interesting dude. How do i go about this?
