Interview with NCsoft’s new President, Chris Chung.

“During our talk I was able to get the scoop on the NCSoft game line up: how the last year went, and what’s planned for the future!”

Lineage… III?!

No, not yet – but soon! Chung told me that NCSoft’s main concern was assembling the right team to tackle this project. Said Chung, “This is the year that we are assembling that team.” On the Lineage II front, the recently release Kamael expansion has done very well, bringing many players back to L2 to try out the new race.

Curiously enough, NCsoft's E3 2006 line-up that was announced a few days ago made no refference whatsoever to their popular Lineage MMO series. However, just because they won't be showing any more scantily clothed dark-elf booth babes, it doesn't mean that a sequel isn't already being worked on. According to WarCry (who in turn are quoting KoreaGames.com's newsletter), Lineage 3 is in fact being developed by NCsoft's Korean studio and will be fully revealed in the first part of 2007. Which might explain why they wouldn't want to spoil the surprise next month in Los Angeles...
And let's not forget that back in 2005, NCsoft acquired the Unreal Engine 3 license, while the company's president was already hinting the Lineage 3 project. Whether or not the game will be using Epic's graphics engine, though, is yet to be seen.

'Lineage 3', expected to spearhead the boom of MMORPGs on the heels of 'Lineage' and 'Lineage 2', is now under development at the NCsoft Studio in Korea. No more details have been publicized yet except for the fact that the game will be an extension of the same episode shared by other 'Lineage' series games. 'Lineage 3' will be unveiled with much pomp and circumstance in the first half of 2007.

　　在向法庭递交的起诉书上暴雪指出"当机器人被引入到WOW的世界后，暴雪的设计意图就落空了，资源分配不再公平，因为机器人比普通的玩家花更多的时间在游戏上，所有的时间都在消耗资源。"全世界有1千万魔兽世界玩家，这个工具的拷贝已售出了10万份以上。Donnelly说机器人没有侵犯暴雪的版权，因为没有‘拷贝'任何《魔兽世界》客户端软件代码。暴雪则指出该程序破坏版权是因为它把游戏拷贝到RAM中，以避开反作弊软件的探测。

　　现在审判结果已经出来，暴雪赢得了诉讼案。但是这一结论引发了两项争论：首先，如果一款游戏载入进RAM，这就是可以视作是游戏的非法拷贝，也就是侵犯了版权；其二，销售Glide程序对暴雪和消费者达成的协议形成了干扰。这一结果产生的实际效应是：如果你购买了一款游戏，想成为游戏的开发者，那么他们就能以此控告你。
