Hair Dye

Hi girls, need advice regarding hair dyes in the market. What are the best hair dyes you've used? Mind to list down shades and brand (and price hehe) you've used and how well they work?

I bought a tube of Schwarzkopf IGORA Royal hair colour (intense violet) because according to the salesperson, it has the most intensive colour and it'll work fine even if I don't bleach my hair. Anyone tried this before? Is it good? It was an impulse purchase as I've just gotten my salary.

Anything that I should take note of before and after dyeing my hair?

Thank you all so much.

Hue

Hi guys, would like some advice for my Hue trip.

I have only a day to spend (or should I say 9 hours?). Can anyone recommend me the BEST places to visit (as in the essence of Hue XD)?

I read from the Discovery guide book that it'll be good to take the Perfume River cruise, but I'd love to visit every single historical spot in Hue (especially the tombs) though that'll be impossible. Just wanna know if they let you go off the cruise to visit the places yourself or do you have to follow the cruises till the end? How long is the cruise? Also, any recommended places for me to book these cruises? Sinh Cafe? I read at Tripadvisor that some members recommend Mr Cu and The Mandarin, anyone tried them?

I'd love to visit the tomb of Khai Dinh, Minh Mang's Tomb and the Forbidden Purple City seperately, how many hours do you reckon to be sufficient for this visit? ^^;;

Also, what's good to get in Hue for souvenirs (aside from cone hats)?

Sorry for asking so many noob questions and huge thanks in advance to anyone who replies. ^___^

Are you applying toxic chemicals on yourself?

Oh well, I guess most of us aren't aware of the stuff we apply on our skin/body/hair. I was reading about the ingredients at Skin Deep Cosmetic Database and it sent a shocker right thru me as some common ingredients found in the stuff we use daily are cancer causing substance, or chemicals that might harm us.

Surely I'm not aware that FD&C colour pigments (that are used to give cosmetics their colour) are carcinogenic, or paraben preservatives are mostly toxic that may cause allergic reaction? I find it especially scary that if you're a mother, these chemicals not only affect you, but also the baby in your womb.

Here's a little breakdown of some of those scary chemicals:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Lead - lipsticks
Lead is a proven neurotoxin that can cause learning, language and behavioral problems such as lowered IQ, reduced school performance and increased aggression. (The same report states that the FDA found the highest lead levels in lipsticks made Procter & Gamble (Cover Girl brand), L'Oreal (L'Oreal, Body Shop and Maybelline brands) and Revlon... O_o;;)

FD&C Colour Pigments - Cosmetics
Synthetic colours made from coal tar. Contain heavy metal salts that deposit toxins onto the skin, causing skin sensitivity and irritation. Animal studies have shown almost all of them to be carcinogenic.

Mineral Oil (Liquidum paraffinum /posh mineral oil, Paraffin oil, Paraffin wax, Petrolatum)
Clog pores, interferes with skin's ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders, Slows down skin function and cell development, resulting in premature aging. Can be contaminated with cancer causing PAH's (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons).

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate - Washer, cleansers, shampoos, toothpastes ect
Key ingredient that produces foam. Strips off the oil layer and then irritating and eroding the skin, leaving it rough and pitted, causes dysfunction of the biological systems of the skin. It has a low molecular weight and so is easily absorbed by the body, it builds up in the heart, liver and brain and can cause major problems in these areas

Synthetic perfumes
99 per cent of the 5,000 chemicals in perfumes arc made from petrochemicals. They include benzene derivatives and air-polluting aldehydes. Petrochemicals penetrate the skin and accumulate in the fatty tissue where they may cause toxic reactions such as headaches, dizziness, rashes and skin irritations.

I found this site really helpful as it lists down the ingredients of a certain product and notes down ingredients that are deemed to be harmful. The database is rather big, so it covers most of the products in the market. Here you go: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/

If you want to read more about the harmful chemicals in our skincare and cosmetics, more links here:
http://www.inspiredliving.com/organic/skin...rechemicals.htm
http://www.hallgold.com/toxic-chemical-ing...s-directory.htm
http://www.health-report.co.uk/ingredients-directory.htm
http://www.safecosmetics.org/article.php?list=type&type=33
Hi guys, I think I've been bitten by the Mille crêpe bug ever since I tried some last year.

As I'm not mushc of a food expert, would like some suggestions on where to get tasty Mille crêpe (especially around JB, actually SG would do too hehe). Thanks!

So far I'm only getting my supplies from Humble Beginnings (JB, Penang) and Nadeje (Melaka) but IMHO Nadeje's taste better, with a wider variety (though skip their cheese Mille crêpe if you don't fancy your cheese to be too sour).

I just found out that the founder of Humble Beginnings is actually the ex-main chef of Nadeje... =D

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Humble Beginnings (JB, PJ, KL, Penang) - http://www.humblebeginnings.com.my

Nadeje Patisserie Cafe (Melaka) - Plaza Mahkota & Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka.

Kafe Indulge - A-0-11 Kuchai Business Park, No.2, Jalan 1/127, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama
Tel : 03 7984 0866

Food Foundry - BG-8, Happy Mansion, Jalan 17/13, Petaling Jaya

Classic Cakes (SG) - 41, Sunset Way, #01-06 Clementi Arcade, Singapore 597071
Tel: 6762 8019

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found a recipe, here: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/06/having-my-cake/

Anyone tried making this with success before? =D

Citrusy/mango smelling body wash and shampoo

Hi girls, I need a little help here. I fell in love with citrusy/mango smelling (the smell is a mix of both) body wash when my mom bought me a bottle of FA body wash (with similar scent), and since... I can't find FA products anywhere in this country, would like to get recommendations from you girls. Do you know any body wash and shampoos that smell like that? Recommend me some please.

My budget is RM30 per bottle.
Cosmetic Surgery for the sake of looking nicer

What do you think of people who underwent cosmetic/plastic surgery in order to have a prettier face?

Are you against it? For it?

Haha, I'm just starting this topic out of curiousity as I was browsing through blog post regarding SNSD's Tiffany's face, and there were opinions flying from all over the place. ^^;;

My stand is that people should appreciate their own features as I believe that everyone is beautiful in their own way, if you don't even know how to appreciate your own beauty, then how do you expect others to do so? But it somebody grow up and decides that he or she would want to look better and opted for surgery, I'm with them too. It's their face, their choice just as long as it gives them some confidence boost and makes them happier.

...though personally, I will never do it, not even getting double eye-lids. Monolids can be incredibly beautiful too.

Just wanna get some clarification, on a Japanese tv program I watched a few years back, the host did mention that there are parents who made "orders" (or bookings) for cosmetic surgeries to be done for their kids when the child is still young. I don't know when will they start the surgery though. O_o|| Do events like these take place in Japan?

Hi guys, just wondering what's the strangest music videos you've watched, post it up and share.

To me, weird costumes and make up (Rammstein, Dir en Grey..) doesn't seem to cut it anymore... hehe, maybe it's just me. ^^;; I was just re-watching Savage Garden's Crash and Burn and realised that it's.... an awfully odd video.
Cruelty-free Beauty Products

Hi girls, just wondering if you will buy a beauty product if you knew it wasn't cruelty free (ie tested on animals)?

I was very heartbroken when I came across a picture of rabbits with swollen eyes and yellow discharge after being tested on, that was when I was 8 and I guess it left an impact on me. So for my part, I try to avoid products tested on animals when possible... Though I'm aware that Malaysians don't get much choices as most affordable products are produced by companies that test (eg. L'oreal, Proter & Gamble, Unilever, Clairol, Johnson & Johnson).

Below are an inexhaustive list of which companies test and which doesn't (that are available in the local market), might have some errors though, so if you see any do let me know.

Companies that don't test

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Aramis www.elcompanies.com
Avon Products, Inc., 1-800-367-2866; www.avon.com
Bobbi Brown, 212-572-4200; www.bobbibrown.com
Bonne Bell, 440-808-2410; www.bonnebell.com
Calvin Klein Cosmetics
Clarins of Paris, 212-980-1800; www.clarins.com
Clinique Laboratories, 212-572-3800; www.clinique.com
Crabtree & Evelyn Cosmetics, 1-800-272-2873; www.crabtree-evelyn.com
Dermalogica, 1-800-345-2761; www.dermalogica.com
Disney Fairies, 212-779-0544; www.townleygirl.com
Disney Princesses, 212-779-0544; www.townleygirl.com
*Eco Tools, 1-800-431-5723; www.eco-tools.com
Estée Lauder, 212-572-4200; www.esteelauder.com
Fernand Aubry, 011 33 1 4984 24 00
*Freeman Beauty, 310-446-9300; www.freemanbeauty.com
Jurlique Pure Skin Care, 1-800-854-1110; www.jurlique.com
La Mer, 1-866-850-9400; www.cremedelamer.com
Liz Claiborne Cosmetics, 212-354-4900; www.lizclaiborne.com
L'Occitane, 646-284-9231; www.loccitane.com
M.A.C.

Hi girls, was thinking of getting a hair curler and maybe a hair straightening iron, any good recommendations of which model/brand to get?

What should I look out for when getting one? I heard that ceramic ones are good? Is that true? Also, I saw some forummers selling some curlers (China brand), very affordable price, are they good? Anyone tried them before? Because I was very tempted to get one myself.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi all, would like to know what hair care products (shampoo, hair mask, conditioner, hair styling products ect) for your hair? How often to you go for a haircut and professional treatment?

I have terribly coarse and dry hair and nothing seems to really work, except for Schwarzkopf's Seah hair treatment, which is bloody expensive. ^^;;

Since there's no thread for Juno Reactor, I'll create one then. ^^

Juno Reactor, a musical project that combines trance, electronic, ambience and industrial music, is the brainchild of Ben Watkins. For more information, please refer to their official website: http://www.reactorleak.com/

I've fell in love with their music ever since I first heard "Guardian Angel" The results on the comparison pics look so good and the price is reasonable, so I bought one myself.

I applied the lotion and whoa, did my skin look a shade fairer and it smelled really good too. But then I got very suspicious when I started reading the label at the back. The product label claims that the lotion is a product of Prof. Dr. Niechans' research.

I went and Googled for Dr Niechans and found nothing but chinese pages linking him to yet another product, La Prairie (which I think was all fake information as there aren't any English source).

After that... I got really frustrated and tore off the chinese label/sticker and... well, you take a look and let me know what you think. I see the word Biotherm somewhere....

Maybe I did get a fake product but then again, if this product really exist at all, there should be some source from Korean website (since it was said to be a hit product amongst Korean girls) but nada.

I've read on some forums that it works and I hope that whoever who had use it won't suffer from any terrible side effects.

Also, there's this barcode sticker thingy for buyers to verify if the product is genuine or not, here's the website: http://china-12315.net.cn
And this is the code for the lotion I bought: 39934 61235 15658 02446 (sorry for the lousy pic quality)
I can't seem to find the page to verify this too. ^^;;

80's cartoon

Just wondering if anyone here is a fan of good'ol 80's cartoon?

I was a baby from that era and grew up watching these:
Jem and the Hologram
Care bears
The Smurfs
My Little Pony
Captain Planet
Thunderbirds
Casper
Heman and the masters of the Universe
...and there's this cartoon where fruits and insects could talk, the cartoon takes place in the forest (I can't remember the name, blame it on my rusty memory).

Is anyone still watching these nowadays? I'm digging up the Care bear movies from youtube. XD

Latourex - Laboratory of Experimental Tourism

Hi there, this thread may be slightly strange as I'm unsure of where to post it.

Mods: sorry to be a bugger, please move it if it's in the wrong place, thank you!

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone here has ever tried or heard of experimental tourism?

Quoting Wikipedia:

QUOTE

Experimental tourism is a novel approach to tourism in which visitors do not visit the ordinary tourist attractions (or, at least not with the ordinary approach), but allow whim to guide them. It is an alternative form of tourism in which destinations are chosen not on their standard touristic merit but on the basis of an idea or experiment. It often involves elements of humor, serendipity, and chance.

Although my parents have been doing this for quite some time (taking me and my younger brother along) but I've stumbled upon this term very recently. Haha.

Also, if anyone have the time it would be nice if you could fill in the survey below for me? ^^;; Yea it's strange but this is for my final term project. Thank you very much. =3

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Nationality:

Have you heard of Experimental Travel (實驗性旅遊)?

Would you do it if you have the time? Why?

Would you do it in Malaysia? Why?

Related links:
Latourex - http://www.latourex.org/latourex_en.html
Experimental Travel UK - http://www.experimentaltravel.org/
Interview with Joël Henry, the man behind Latourex - http://www.worldhum.com/qanda/item/jol_hen...imental_travel/
