Federal Hotel as wedding venue (need review!)

Hi babes,

I'm planning to have my wedding venue in Federal Hotel (not the Mandarin Palace part) and I really need to know if this is a good place to hold a simple yet memorable reception. I've been looking at other places, but given that I have limited budget and need a halal place, Federal is the only one that offers pretty cheap pricing.

But like some ppl might say, good things dont come cheap. So if if anyone has attended or organized a wedding in Federal Hotel, I'd really appreciate the feedback. Is the food okay? Staffs professional and helpful?

Please help! Thanks in advance!

[addedon]June 10, 2012, 10:27 pm[/addedon]Seriously? 133 views and not one reply? No one's had a wedding in Federal Hotel before/. Sad case....

choosing a job

Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding my situation. Here's what it is.... I am a recent graduate and upon graduation applied for different positions at just about everywhere. I didnt get calls or went for a lot of interviews, but I got an offer from a small company as accounts assistant by the 2nd week. I'm supposed to sign the offer letter next week.

The problem is, I'm also still going around for interviews and other opportunities. As of now, I am going for 2nd stage interview with Colgate-Palmolive and have also passed a phone interview with Shell. Shell said they would call me back later to arrange for an interview.

Now even if I passed all these interviews, I might only get an offer by end of this month or maybe way later. So in the meantime, should I sign the offer letter with the small company? I mean, I might get a chance with Colgate-Palmolive and Shell, which are big and reputable companies, as compared to a company that runs Modesto and CapSquare (restaurant and club, know them?). My interview 'skills' are not that awesome, and I dare not be so confident as to say that I'm definitely going to pass all the interviews (and only 1 position opened for both companies).

My bf said I should sign the offer letter first, unless I'm 100% sure I can get another job. For now I'm not very fussy about pay, as long as it's 2k and above, I'm sure all 3 companies offers about the same rate (fringe benefits not sure). But surely Colgate-Palmolive and Shell would an awesome opportunity for anyone.

What should I do? I'm so torn in between!

Colgate-Palmolive

Hi there,

I just passed the Aptitude Test with Colgate-Palmolive yesterday and they contacted me today to invite me for another round of test, this time there will be a case study, followed by an interview.

Has anyone gone through their case study and interview before? Please enlighten me about it, cause I'm not exactly sure what to prepare. I applied for a Graduate Trainee position, for Finance and HR (though I'm not sure which one they are picking me for). Will the case study be something technical, or something like behavioral questions.

The aptitude test was quite easy, the only problem for me is the timing - less than 1 minute per question. So I'm afraid I'll have the same problem again with the case study (they said we have to prepare a case study and then present it to them).

Please help! Any tips would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
What Employers Expect from Fresh Grads

I'm just wondering, what, in general, do employers/bosses expects from a fresh graduate? I mean, aside from the academic results as shown on paper, curriculum activities and maybe social skills.

Because let's face it, what we study in college or uni are mostly theories and basic stuffs, and most students forget whatever they study after exam is over. And not all internship provides us with sufficient learning (or maybe I'm going for another job that is different from my internship one).

What the important things that a fresh grad should know? I cant exactly tell interviewers that I only know theories and basic things, and pretty much nothing else, especially if I dont know what the job entails.

For example, this is the job description for a management trainee position, for experienced and fresh grad of Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, ANY field.:

QUOTE

# Act as primary interface for services support for assigned account/type of business
# Execute and adhered to the services process
# Respond to the customer quires and ensure resolution on related problem timely by maintaining a positive relationship
# Ability to address customer complex requirement and demonstrate services offering, process and tool
# Be considered as an expert in customer support activities, related policies , practices and standard procedures
# Provide guidance and assistance to peers in complex deals
# Ensure adherence to complex process
# Perform contract administration, ensure completeness, accuracy and on time contract fulfillment
# Raise and validate advice to bill (ATB) to ensure invoices are accurate
# Identify and provide billing solution to the requestor
# Ensure compliance to all audit guidelines
# Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned
# Ensure team success by facilitating effective team process, accepting responsibility for outcomes by proactively solving problems

The first thing that crossed my mind? I DONT KNOW WHAT THESE MEAN.

For the record, I'm not stupid. I'm pretty sure I can learn fairly quick. But it's the not knowing that scares the shit outta me. I've probably studied about them before, but I still wouldnt know how to go about doing it, you know what I mean?

So really. WHAT DO EMPLOYERS EXPECT OF US NEWBIES?

p/s: Can anyone please tell me what "good CCA record" means? Thanks a lot.

microwave oven to donate

Hi, I have a new un-used microwave oven that I no longer want, and it's eating up space (yes, it's quite huge). This is a SUB-STANDARD good with no guarantee or warranty (not that i know of).

I dont think anyone would wanna buy it, so I was thinking of giving it away. Does anyone know if anyone/place would benefit from this?

Let me know. Thank you.

Iris.

note: The product is not even taken out of the box yet.

interview problems

I read in plenty of posts about interviews for audit posts where it is encouraged to know your FRS. I really want to ask, is the knowledge of FRS that crucial during the interview stage? I mean, I am a fresh grad and while I might know and understand some of the FRS, I dont memorize them or know them by heart. I also dont have specific preference towards any one of the standards (one time this interview asked me, which FRS you like best and why - I got tongue-tied ). Is that a bad thing? I mean, even when you are working already, you can still refer to the book for the FRS right?

Also, I'm the kind of person who knows things in general, but if you ask me specifically, I might not be able to answer you (but if you give me some time to check references, I can prob give a decent answer). This pose such a problem, because a lot of times, interviewers like to ask specific questions about solving some accounting problems. I'm not good at memorizing things, and I dont have the sharpest memory. Whatever I know and learned is somewhere at the back of my memory that usually requires some 'refreshing' first. I'm in deep shit, aint i?

I'd appreciate the replies, especially from experienced auditors and interviewers and the like.

Thanks in advance

Help, need job in Cyberjaya!

Hi, I'm hoping to get some help here.

I'm a student in MMU and need to find a job as my financial funds are depleted. In short, if I dont get a job, I'm pretty much screwed (no money to pay tuition fees, no need to study, no need to graduate )

So the thing is, because I have only left 2 semesters with 2 subjects in each, I can pretty much make time for full time jobs already, given that it has some time flexibility because I still need to attend classes and all.

Anyone know any jobs like that in Cyberjaya? (I'm gonna be staying in Cyberjaya and I have no transport, so can only find work in Cyberjaya)

I'm applying for HSBC GSE position, but I'm scared that they dont have openings (oh, and i can only start work earliest December - am still in internship right now). Are there any other GSE positions in other companies in Cyberjaya that might be recruiting? Or any other jobs that will pay >RM1000 and has flexible schedule/shifts? I'm from accounting background btw, but wouldnt mind doing anything else (if training is provided, otherwise I'll be super blurr )

Please please help!

Thanks in advance.

Interview Dilemma

Hi guys, need some advice here.

Here's my situation: I'm going for interviews for accounting internship. I have okay results and maybe I cant really answer well enough when it comes to accounting Qs that interviewers give out. However in my results transcript there is one part where I've withdrawn my subjects (for a semester). The reason was that I was suffering from depression breakdown then (I've since sought professional help and have been better, though not completely okay).

I've gone through a few interviews where they ask about that particular break, and why I needed it. In those interviews, I told them the truth and right now, I'm not sure if that's still the best thing to do. I havent gotten reply from them yet, but I have a feeling they were all rejected.

Question is, should I continue telling the truth, or should I start making a lie out of it?

After all, who would want to hire someone who had a breakdown history, even as an intern? I told them the onset of the depression was likely due to stress and overpressure, although it might have been other reasons (I really dont know for certain what brought it on). That sounded better than saying I dont know, at that time.

So what now? It almost looks like I'm doomed. Anyone who's perhaps experienced in HR matters or have/are interviewers in audit firms? Or if you've been through things like this? Please help.
