Laptop RAM Upgrade

My fellow forumers,

I would like to get someone's advise and insight on upgrading the memory for my laptop. For example, by default my laptop came with 2GB of DDR2 SODIMM, and I would like to upgrade to 6GB filling up the additional 2 available slots, can I just buy another 2 sticks of Corsair/Kingston SODIMM and add them on or is it better for me to buy 3 sticks of the same brand to attain the 6GB? Will there be any compatibility issues running different brands of RAM or will it affect the performance? Thank you guys in advance for your advise. Cheers.
