Recommendation on a new rig

Hi guys I guess this is another typical suggest-me-the-best-rig thread. Hope you all are patient with me.

I currently already own a Gigabyte 5850 OC. So in this 1.4k rig suggestion, GC will be excluded.

I dont need monitor, keyboard, or mouse. Only rig.

I am more on gaming, esp FPS games, and also occasional photo editing (converting RAW files, etc) and video converting.

I am thinking of crossfiring in the future too, and also OCing my proc, but this is optional if you have a better suggestion.

I hope my rig can be as future proof as possible, hopefully can tahan 2-3 years.

My current thoughts are
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE - 363
Asus M5A97 - 345
KVR 1333 4GBx2 - 136
Silverstone Strider 600W - 279
1TB WD HDD - 156
CM 212+ - 85 <Necessary?

Total of rm1364. Prices are from jayacom.

I would like to ask, as I have been reading on alot of other threads similar to me, and also from the internet, alot of people suggested the similar priced Intel i3 2100 instead of the above. The i3 seriously is better than 955 in every aspect?

Any inputs, suggestions or critics are welcomed.

Thank you very much.

Help with psu and gc

So recently I bought a new GC for my old 3-yr-old desktop.
My GC is Gigabyte 5850 OC, link
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-p...spx?pid=3354#ov

I realise I had problems connecting my GC with the psu. I only found one 6 pin connector coming out from the psu that can be connected to the GC, but on the GC it looks like it needs two 6 pin connectors in order to work.

This is my psu. Quite old d. Its an Acbel 500W
http://www.acbel.com/eng/Product.aspx?id=49&&sd=31&&pid=199

I also saw one 4 pin and a 2 pin connector which can combine together and it can fit into the GC's second 6 pin receiver.

So question is, can I use that 4+2 pin and fit into the GC?
And will my system become underpowered?

Some info bout my old rig.
AMD AthlonX2 5200+
Asus M3A mobo
2GB ddr2 RAM
One PATA and one SATA Hard disk.

Laptop sided charger

Hi guys i'll make the long story short.

For almost a year already my laptop charger parts (the laptop inside part, in the hole, not the charger) had been having problems of not being able to recharge when I plug the charger inside. Most of the time I have to pusing here and there the charger head inside the hole to get to the point where it can recharge.

I had been a moderate gamer and I found out that the charger head there will go very hot when I am playing games and I saw the markings of the yellow plastic melting and become back d.

So until last week when I was pusing-ing here and there then I realize no matter how I turn also it wont charge d. So I pull out the charger head and I realize the connector pin in the hole (I dont know how to explain, see pic) had disappeared. I cant find it back anymore.

What should I do now? Can the laptop still be repaired?

pc hangs when playing 3D games

Hi everyone,

Here i wanna tell everyone my problem with my 6 months old com..

Okay, here is the problem. Whenever I play some 3D games, especially the new games like COD4, after playing like, 15 mins (sometimes long and sometimes short), my whole pc will start to hang (The whole screen freezes, the music stops, and I continuously press the NumLock button and the NumLock LED light on my keyboard doesnt blink continuously) . And theres nothing i can do with it except to push the reset button. But after that everything goes well. Unless i go and play back those 3D games..

I tried both WOW and NFS ProStreet too. And the problem like above happens..

Even with the benchmark program, 3DMark06, my pc will hang too.

So, the only solution i can do right now is to play those games for like, 10 mins, and stop playing a while, by minimizing and come back to desktop for 1 min, then resume back the game, doing this again and again, then my com wont hang.

However, when i tried with some old games, like Hitman 3 : Contracts, or some simple games like MapleStory, the problem doesnt happen.

Heres my rig's spec,
AMD AthlonX2 5200+
Asus M3A mobo
Asus Geforce 8500GT 512MB
Corsair 2GB DDR2 667mhz RAM
160GB Seagate PATA hard disk
Some Cap Palang 450W PSU<< i guess my problem is caused by this thing. my pc not enough power?

One more problem I am suspecting is that my pc's temperature is kindda high when playing games, especially the GC, when playing with COD4, it will rise up to about 60~64oC, even in an air-con room. Maybe the overheating had caused the whole computer to hang.

I didnt install any cooler hardwares except a few extra fans..

Hope any pro or anyone who experiences the same problem like mine with their own pc can enlighten me up! thx!
