black screen after opened video files

hi i've been having this problem on and off recently. When I open a video files (flv files via windows media player 9) once in a while the screen would dim and apparently stop responding. The only thing works is the ctrl_alt_del but then when i tried to open the task manager it's just plain black. The sound is still going on though. When i tried to put it to sleep or shut down it stops responding completely. I had to turn off manually (press the power button for a while) to reboot. Can anyone tell me what's the problem? this occurs randomly

hi i'd like to ask regarding my 120gb hdd inside my aspire 4935g. It heats up rather quickly and as a result my laptop become sluggish and on one occasion (trying to run old game heroes 5) it just shuts down. I pry my laptop open and the hdd felt damn hot! I already dissembled my laptop, cleared the dust, and replaced the thermal paste recently. Any way to improve this besides laptop fan?

is it that aged hdd tends to overheat easily?

alright so i'm formatting a laptop which has its dvd kong'd and possible motherboard IO as well. Initially i use an external usb dvd to reformat using win xp but the thing is there are too many "error copying files" which i can only skip but dat wouldn't work. I switched to usb bootable, tried 3 different dvd's, all have "error copying file". I thought it was the hard disk so i took it out, and tried to reformat it in another system, but it just happened successfully. Still not convinced, I replaced the hd with a known good one and the laptop just wouldn't give way. Any way to install an OS to the laptop? I tried installing OS to the hd in different system then transferred it back to the laptop hoping it would work, nah failed. Is there anything I can do?

Hi LYN peeps. My bro's laptop kong recently and since it was an old laptop he decided jz to leave it as it is. So I took out the hdd inside and figured i'll install it into my desktop. My main concern is that is it safe to plug in the sata power connector into the drive? bcuz i read that the yellow 12v actually does harm to the drive (reduce lifespan). Btw it is a western digital 320gb 5400rpm drive. Or would it be better to jz purchase a hd enclosure with usb 3.0 and use it as external hdd (i still prefer the former as i alrdy have 2 external hdd's)

Hi there's a pc fair coming up this weekend so i'm thinking of getting myself a new monitor (currently using old cheap office monitor ) i wouldn't mind the brand as long as it's good...19" upward preferred...1080p, led backlight and ips aren't a must but is very much welcomed i've no idea how much would the price different be though since i'm in sabah

pls suggest me a good monitor shifus!

Noticed some melting at the back of the gpu

Hi sifus, this morning i checked the backside of my graphic card and to my horror i noticed that there are some melting...i don't know how to describe it but it's jz not as pointy as others and the color seems fade as well...worried that this could be a problem. I've done overclocking at 1050/1320, max temperature 72', no voltage alteration.

Note: the below picture isn't my card, i just want to point out the location is over the left uppermost side of the card...there are two 2x3 points there (dunno how u call them). One looks perfectly well, shiny and pointy while the other is the exact opposite

edit: after some research found out it was not a problem after all, case closed

Chassis fan

Hi i'd like to ask how to improve the airflow of my chassis haf 912 advanced? kinda noob in the airflow thingy...i'm overclocking my gc so i'd like to keep the temp below 70' on load...i tried adding a side fan which turns out to be a bad idea, the temp increased instead read abt positive and negative pressure but i can't really get it...how to calculate the balanced flow? rpm? fan size? dun mind the loud noise as my speakers are louder generally

can i bring a rig pass through airasia?

Hi I'm close to finishing my rig, all that left is choosing a chassis...below are my specs:

mobo: gigabyte ga-z77x-d3h
proc: i5 3450 with stock fan (may want to resell+oc in the future)
psu: seasonic s12ii 620 80+ bronze
gc: sapphire hd 7850 oc (planning to crossfire later)
ram: 8 gb team elite 1333mhz ddr3
hd: wd caviar blue 500gb (going to add one ssd drive in the future)

pls suggest an atx chassis <rm300...too many choices and i'm like

preferably with 2 fans and usb 3.0 supports...others are optional

hi i'm new (and noob, of course ) to LYN. Recently I've started building my own desktop targeted at gaming (latest games e.g. bf3 skyrim etc.) at decent fps (40 or more)...these are the parts that I have 1) bought so far and 2) have in mind (exclusive of parts e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers):

Alright so i have a question pls help

I'm unsure of getting which graphic card at the price of rm700~900, I've been considering GTX 560 TI for some time but it seems like for that price range I can get a better card (eyeing on hd 7850 2g http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1294783). I'm from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah so pretty much the ready stocks here are overpriced. Any recommendation and where can i get it? (original product)

Problem after driver update (9300m gs)

I recently updated my graphic driver to ver 8.15.11.8585, since it appears to be the latest one n i hope to increase my gaming performance...but later i found out that it shrunk down instead! My windows experience index dropped from 3.6 to 3.2, n i also found out that the graphic power option is no longer visible in ePowermanagement...n i couldn't open the eAudio management as it keeps on giving "Notification tool for RealTek audio chip has stopped working" error...wat could have caused this? I'm using acer aspire 4935g, win vista home premium 32bit sp1
