PETALING JAYA: A married Muslim woman was caught naked with her non-Muslim lover in a hotel room by officers of the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) early today.
English daily The Star, quoted a news report from Metro, that the distraught husband called the state religious authority after spotting his wife and a man enter the premises of a hotel. He was suspicious that the two were having an affair.
Acting on the call, JHEAT officers raided the hotel in Kuala Nerus at 7.35am and found the two naked inside one of the rooms.
Speaking to officers after the raid, the woman claimed she had fallen in love with the man she was with as he had helped her expand her business.
Commenting on the incident, JHEAT commissioner Wan Mohd Wan Ibrahim said, “Although he (the woman’s husband) was disappointed and upset, he did not take action by himself but called the religious authorities instead.”
The married woman and her lover were brought to the JHEAT office and will be investigated under Section 29 of the Terengganu Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) Enactment 2001.

12-year-old boy becomes father

In a rare incident, a DNA test has confirmed a 12-year-old boy as the father of a baby girl born to a 17-year-old girl in Kochi district.
The boy was arrested in November last year on charges of raping the girl, after she gave birth to a baby. The boy and the girl are first cousins and also neighbours, said police.
Kalamassery Circle Inspector S Jayakrishnan said the DNA test confirmed the paternity of the child. The DNA profiles from the blood samples of the baby girl and the boy confirmed the latter to be the baby’s biological father.
Later the girl revealed the name of her cousin brother to the police, which booked him for rape and arrested him. As the alleged accused is a minor, hence the case would be tried in the Juvenile Justice Board, said police. The boy is now on bail.

North Korean embassy cordoned off

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have sealed the North Korean Embassy on Jalan Batai, here.
The move follows recent developments in the Kim Jong-nam assassination saga that has seen Malaysia and North Korea implementing travel bans.
Police showed up around 11.30am on Tuesday and blocked the road leading to the embassy.

They then cordoned off the area in front of the embassy's main gate.
When asked what was going on, one of the officers said: "We are sealing off the embassy."
Around 15 policemen, some seen carrying submachine guns, have been stationed around the embassy.

Pyongyang on Tuesday announced that all Malaysian citizens in North Korea were banned from leaving the country.
In an immediate response, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said all North Korean Embassy staff in Malaysia would be similarly barred from leaving.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed that the travel ban only applies to diplomatic staff, and that that regular North Korean citizens in Malaysia will be allowed to leave the country.

Outlook bleak for ringgit, say analysts

PETALING JAYA: The outlook is bleak for the ringgit this year, says an analyst after the Malaysian currency hit a low of RM3.173 to the Singapore dollar yesterday, The Straits Times reported.
Jeremy Cook, chief economist of foreign exchange company World First, believes the ringgit could drop even further.
“Bank Negara Malaysia has not been able to smooth out the ringgit’s depreciation given its weak foreign currency reserves. This leaves traders unwilling to meaningfully back the currency.
“Oil prices should be able to keep the ringgit supported on a terms of trade basis, but we could easily see a run to 3.30,” Cook told the Straits Times, adding that the Singapore dollar’s strength will depend on US trade policies, which still lack clarity.
With the depressed global oil prices, and Malaysia being a major oil producer, the ringgit has taken a prolonged beating against major currencies, according to ST.
Meanwhile, IG market strategist Pan Jing Yi does not see the ringgit making a rebound.

“Any rebound by the ringgit is unlikely this year. With current trends, the Singapore dollar against the ringgit may find 3.10 serving as a support into the end of the year,” she was quoted as saying by ST.
The Singapore currency’s gain against the ringgit has reached more than 2% since the start of the year, when the exchange rate was RM3.1065 to one SGD.
Meanwhile, the Singapore dollar strengthened to S$1.40 against one US dollar.

Jihadis are being taught to "eat their enemies" as part of a secret curriculum in ISIS training schools which justifies cannibalism.
Counter- terrorism group The Quilliam Foundation say they have found evidence young fighters are being brainwashed into believing they should eat human bodies if supplies are scarce during a time of jihad or religious war.
The secret syllabus also advises on what bits to eat and how to prepare the body, the Daily Record reports.
Quilliam chief executive Haras Rafiq said: “We have found the curriculum that Islamic State use to indoctrinate fighters and the indigenous population in areas under their control.
“There are all sorts of things in there, but one of the most horrific is a section on cannibalism which they are teaching in classrooms.
“They are trying to use a theological-based argument to say that cannibalism can be carried out when there is no food during a time of jihad.

“They say that if there are no supplies, it is OK to kill another non-Muslim or a Muslim who doesn’t follow their version of Islam."

He added: “As a Muslim, I find it utterly revolting. They even give advice on the parts to eat and how to prepare the flesh.
“These views on cannibalism are not mainstream but they are gaining traction.
“It’s new to see them advocate cannibalism. They are using Salafism – a fundamentalist theology and political Islamism - to justify their views.”
The news comes after Isis militants fed a desperate mum the mutilated remains of her kidnapped son after telling her it was cooked meat and rice.
The worried mum had bravely visited the terror group’s headquarters in a bid to speak to her son, who had been captured and taken prisoner by militants in Mosul, Iraq.

Rafiq said: “There are hate preachers who go to universities and indoctrinate youngsters.
“We are doing one event a week in universities to show there is an alternative view to extremism and we are keen to get involved in universities in Scotland.
"It is vitally important that we get to the youngsters before they become radicalised and get a chance to dissect the propaganda they are getting.
“People going to the so-called jihad in Afghanistan were aged between 25 and 35 years old and there were virtually no women. But with Islamic State, the average age is 14 to 25 and 10 per cent of recruits are young girls and women.”

JAKARTA: Indonesian police on Monday (Feb 27) caught a suspect after a bomb blast in a Bandung government building.

Earlier, an exchange of gunfire could be heard on Indonesian TV footage filmed from outside the building in West Java.

West Java police chief Anton Charliyan said the bomb was a "low-powered" device.

A report from local news outlet Detik also cited the chief as saying that a suspect that was holing up in the Arjuna District Office had demanded the release of detainees of counter-terrorism unit Densus 88. No specifics were given.

Indonesia has suffered several major militant attacks over the years, the worst of which was the 2002 bombing on the holiday island of Bali that killed 202 people, many of them foreigners.

Late last year, a bomb exploded on the outskirts of the capital, Jakarta. Three suspects were killed in a gunfight with anti-terrorism police.

New organ discovered inside human body

A new organ has been discovered hiding in plain sight inside the human body.

Known as the mesentery, it was previously thought to be just a few fragmented structures in the digestive system.

But scientists have realised it is in fact one, continuous organ.

Although its function is still unclear, the discovery opens up “a whole new area of science,” according to J Calvin Coffey, a researcher at the University Hospital Limerick, who first discovered it.

"When we approach it like every other organ… we can categorise abdominal disease in terms of this organ," he told the Science Alert website.

“Now we have established anatomy and the structure. The next step is the function. If you understand the function you can identify abnormal function, and then you have disease.

“Put them all together and you have the field of mesenteric science.”

The research has been published in The Lancetmedical journal.

Following its reclassification, medical students are now being taught that the mesentery is a distinct organ.

Gray’s Anatomy, the world’s most famous medical textbook, has been updated to include the new definition.

Medical students and researchers can now investigate what role the mesentery might play in abdominal diseases, which it is hoped could ultimately lead to new treatments.

The organ is a double fold of peritoneum - the lining of the abdominal cavity - that holds our intestine to the wall of our abdomen.

It was described by the Italian polymath Leanardo da Vinci in 1508, but it has been ignored throughout the centuries, until now.

Although there are generally considered to be five organs in the human body, there are in fact now 79, including the mesentery.

The heart, brain, liver, lungs and kidneys are the vital organs, but there are another 74 that play a role in keeping us healthy.

Witness refuses to testify

KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless man, who came under the limelight after a handphone theft at Low Yat Plaza last year, and his friend were given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on an assault charge.
Magistrate Nur Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor made the decision after the main witness decided against continuing his testimony.
The hearing in the case against Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz and his friend Shameer Zaidi was scheduled for today.
Hamizan Hamzah, the witness and also the victim of the assault, told the court he did not want his family to attend court every time there was a hearing.
They were living far away and he did not want to trouble them, he explained.
He said “no one forced me to stop testifying”.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Ashif argued that although the witness did not wish to give his statement, “the case can still continue”.
Shahrul and Shameer claimed trial under Section 324 of the Penal Code to voluntarily causing hurt to Hamizan, using a parang this year.
Shahrul has two previous convictions for stealing a RM800 phone at Low Yat and drug abuse.
He was jailed four months and fined RM1,000 for stealing and fined RM2,000 on the drug charge.
Shahrul has yet to serve his jail sentence as he’s appealing.

A suicide bomber has killed four Americans inside Bagram airbase, the largest US military facility in Afghanistan.
US Defence Secretary Ash Carter said two members of the armed services and two contractors had died in the attack.
A further 16 US service members and one Polish soldier were injured, he added.
The Taliban said one of their fighters had carried out the attack, a major security breach in one of the best protected places in Afghanistan.
Bagram has been targeted by militants in the past but this is the first time a bomb has exploded inside the base.
Just north of the capital Kabul, it has been used as the main military base and airfield by the US-led forces and Nato over the past 14 years.
A local government spokesman said the attacker had entered the base early in the morning and was among Afghan labourers reporting for duty when he detonated his vest.

Bagram is a heavily guarded military base with many layers of security and protection. The outermost layer is guarded by Afghan forces and second and more inner layers of security are guarded by US forces.
High walls, security cameras, and watch towers on the outer perimeters and inside the base are just some of its formidable security measures. A surveillance balloon also watches the entire area.
Every person entering the base is searched, in many cases escorted, and must have a pre-arranged meeting with someone inside.
The security measures serve not only to protect military personnel on the base, but also to safeguard expensive state-of-the-art military tools, including fighter jets and unmanned aerial technology.
US presidents visiting the country fly into Bagram, one of the most heavily guarded places in Afghanistan, because it is seen as more secure than landing in Kabul.
General John W Nicholson, US Army commander in Afghanistan, said in a statement:
''[To] the family and friends of those wounded in today's attack, let me assure you they are receiving the best care possible, and we will keep them in our thoughts today."
He said the incident was being investigated.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack had been planned over four months.
Last December, a Taliban suicide bomber riding a motorbike killed six US soldiers in a village near Bagram in one of last year's deadliest attacks on foreign troops.
The attack on Bagram comes just a day after the German consulate in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif in northern Afghanistan was hit by a Taliban suicide bomb blast that killed six civilians and wounded some 120 others.
The Taliban said on Friday that those attacks were carried out in retaliation for a recent coalition air strike in Kunduz which reportedly killed some 30 civilians.
Correspondents say the Taliban are stepping up their attacks before the onset of winter.
'No confidence'
Meanwhile, MPs in the Afghan parliament have dismissed the minister of foreign affairs, public works and social affairs for failing to spend development money allocated to them.
A BBC correspondent in Kabul says if the money is not spent, it will have to be refunded to the foreign donors.
Mr Ghani's national unity government has been plagued by infighting since it was formed in 2014.
Ministers in Afghanistan are nominated by the president, and several more are due to face confidence votes by MPs.

KUALA LUMPUR: The primary school teacher, who allegedly molested nine students at a school in Hulu Selangor earlier this year, has been transferred to another school.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the teacher was moved out from the Tamil school concerned and is being “monitored” by the district and state education officers.

"The ministry is working closely with the police to resolve the case according to the law," Mahdzir told Teo Ni Ching (DAP-Kulai) in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat.

Mahdzir said a total of 15 reports of teachers molesting students were made between 2010 and October this year at district and state education offices, including the ministry.

He said the teachers involved had been transferred to other schools and subjected to counselling and close monitoring.

"Disciplinary action against them is determine on the courts,” he said, adding that the victims were also given counselling.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said that draft laws on child sexual crimes will be tabled in Parliament following approval from the Cabinet.

"The laws specifically covers various aspect of sexual crimes against children which includes child pornography and online and offline grooming," she said in a written reply to a question by Datuk Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong).

Azalina said the draft laws were based on recommendations of the Special Task Force on Sexual Crimes set up in August to study the issue.

She said the committee held meetings on Sept 6 and Oct 4 to gather feedback from relevant stakeholders to draft the laws.

She added that among those consulted included the Attorney General Chambers, Bar Council, Unicef, International Women Rights Action Asia Pacific and children related non-governmental organisations.

Dog owner nightmare

It’s one of those things pet owners talk about – dying at home and becoming a meal for their beloved fur companions.

A report out of Staten Island, New York, has shown that this has happened. A woman returned home to find her mum dead and their two dogs feeding on the body.

The victim was 68-year-old Daisie Bradshaw who was pronounced dead at the scene. The dogs were owned by the daughter but lived at the same address.

Police have not confirmed whether the woman died from natural causes and the dogs were feeding on her because they were hungry, or if she was attacked by the dogs.

Media reports claimed that Bradshaw's body was covered with cuts and bruises and police said there were 'defensive wounds' suggesting she might have fought off the animals.

Daisie lived with four dogs but two had been locked in a bathroom. The dogs involved in the incident were two German Shepherd-pitbull cross breeds.

Would dogs eat their beloved owners’ bodies?

Unsurprisingly this is a topic that has been written about a lot online, and the conclusive answer to that question is a resounding YES.

Buzzfeed interviewed a forensic anthropologist at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, whose pet research topic is animal scavengers. They asked Dr Carolyn Rando if dogs would eat their dead owners given a chance.

And this was her disturbing answer: “Yes, your pets will eat you when you die, and perhaps a bit sooner than is comfortable. They tend to go for the neck, face, and any exposed areas first, and then, if not discovered in time, they may proceed to eat the rest of you.”

It seems that this desire to feed on their owners is not nasty at all but instinctive – and it may stem from their love for their owner. Dr Rando added: “When you die, the animal often becomes distressed and may attempt to ‘wake you up’; they will lick and nip at the face. Once they’ve licked enough, they may draw blood; this could trigger an instinctive behaviour, resulting in more wounding and eventually consumption of human tissue.”

She cited a case from 2007 in which two dogs dined out on the body of their middle-aged female owner and the only things left of her were small bone fragments, a piece of her skull, and some hair. But the woman had been dead for a month before she was found.

Before cat owners become all pious and diss the dogs, there are also cases on record where felines have fed on their owners. But it’s the “motivation” that the scientists haven’t worked out yet when it comes to cats.

Sea search for man who jumped off second

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 26 — Search and Rescue teams consisting of the Fire and Rescue Department and the Marine Police have started a sea search here for a man who was believed to have jumped off the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge this morning.

According to this morning’s initial report, the Fire and Rescue Department started the search operations at around 8.48am after the man’s motorcycle, slippers and handphone were found at KM11.3 of the bridge on the island-bound side.

He is believed to have jumped off the bridge and the search operations are still underway to find him.

The 38-year-old had purportedly posted a lengthy suicide note on his Facebook status that was shared by a Facebook user known as Lie Gj Penang and has since then been shared over 400 times.

In his note, he had asked for the forgiveness of his wife, children and family members while listing out the reasons for his decision to end his life.

He lamented over being charged for selling illegal cigarettes that are worth below RM160 for a case in 2012.

He compared his case to the one of a “director who took millions and yet was freed on bail” and how the “cruel government” are victimising him as a small grocery store owner.

He said he decided to take this step as he did not want to go to jail and let his children be called “a convict’s children”.
