Healthy food for my dog

Hello there,

I have a 2.5 year old beagle whom I just recently brought back from Australia. I have had him since he was 2 months old in Melbourne, and has been a great joy in my life. While I was in Australia, I met many pet owners who have healthy dogs well over 16 years old! I’ve learnt from most of these owners that the secret of their dogs’ longevity was plenty of exercise and love, and fresh, healthy, natural diets. Because of this, ever since he could eat solid foods, I have been feeding him wholly natural and fresh foods. Pet foods like these are readily available in supermarkets in Australia. The fresh food comprises of fresh ingredients according to the average dog’s nutritional needs and it is vacuum sealed and stored in refrigerators, removing the need for preservatives. I have also spoilt my beagle with similar treats, which are also available in the pet shops and supermarkets over there.

Now, I have been back in Malaysia with my beagle for almost a year now. I have been trying to look similar fresh foods and treats in Malaysia but have not found any, so I have been feeding him with different readily-available pet foods. My beagle is still extremely healthy, except for slightly increased hair loss, slightly runny stool and itching. I’ve brought my dog to the vet about this problem and after much deliberation with the vet, it was found that the diet was a major factor to his physiological changes. Upon discovering this, I decided to feed my beagle fresh natural foods again and noticed the immediate change. His stools were firmer, and he lost much less hair. It looked like he was still itching a little bit so I told the vet again, and she discovered that some of the itching was caused by mosquito bites.

“Problem solved!”, I thought. I could just continue to feed my beagle freshly prepared meals by me. Very soon, I discovered that this was extremely time consuming, and started feeding him readily-available food and treats again. I try to give freshly prepared meals as much as I can, but it seems that commercial pet-store treats also affect his hair loss.

The main point to my extremely long post is – are there any fresh, healthy pet foods and treats available in Kuala Lumpur? Is there anywhere I can purchase items like these? It would be best if it was readily available – i.e ordered from a retail shop or website.

I really appreciate the effort of anyone reading through my long post. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I really do want the best for my dog.

Want to find a Carob bars/drops/buttons supplier?

Hi,

Im looking for a local carob supplier as I can only find carob powder in shops. I would like to purchase it in the forms of buttons, chips or bars (similar to the normal chocolate you use for baking that you can find in supermarkets but instead of chocolate its carob). I know you can readily purchase them overseas. But, Ive been trying to search for a malaysian supplier for quite some time already with no success. So if you know a supplier or if anyone have seen them sold in any of these forms at any retail stores in malaysia please let me know as well.

Thanks heaps.

[addedon]June 18, 2008, 8:43 pm[/addedon]Just like to add, does anyone also know if you can get plain yogurt in those forms (bars, chips, buttons) as well?
