For those who don't, it's a website that will crawl you blog for new articles and display the summary. People around the world can check and if they interested, they will click the link and redirected to your website. This way, you have the opportunity to index your blog and send more traffic to your blog. I've also provided a tutorial link at the website with screencast. It's free and it's very easy.

How does it works?

For those who have their own hosting and is using WordPress, you can install a plugin called MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer and configure it to automatically send a ping request. Check out the screencast in the tutorial page on how to achieve this. This plugin will inform giuk.org everytime you post a new articles in your blog.

For those who don't have wordpress and the ability to use plugin, you can manually request a ping by submitting your blog url every time you finished updating your blog or after posting a new articles. Check out the screencast in the tutorial page on how to achieve this.

Edit: This is no longer applied. Check my comment below.

Linux Training

I am looking for linux training. I am a web developer (PHP/MySQL) and quite comfortable to say I know basic linux administrations as well. How basic you may ask, are limited to installation and configuration of Apache, MySQL and PHP for Linux plus the usual rm, cp, mv, ls, ps, w, df, vim, pico, su, vnc, service, yum commands. Most of the time, IRC and google are places I'll go for help if there is something beyond my expertise. I am looking any training that provide advance topic in the sense of 'linux as a server' including installation, upgrading, softwares configuration, security, networking and shell scripting around KL or PJ. I appreciate any suggestions.

An interesting read - after 2 phone interviews, the next interview was in the Google campus itself. Google even paid for his plane ticket, hotel room, rental car, and food. Wow.

Interesting read especially the campus. For instance, in the main lobby, they have a projector showing a live scrolling list of Google searches in realtime. All of the cafeterias there provide buffet-style food and they are FREE!

Pity he didn't get the job and worse, he spilled out his interesting "20% project" (all Google coders can devote 20% of their time working on a side project - that's where they get Google Labs) which the interviewer jotted down on a piece of paper.

Read @ Absolutely No Machete Juggling

Why Good Programmers Are Lazy and Dumb

While reading narf03's thread, after stumbled into silverhawk's DOM Scripting link, I stumbled deeper into an interesting article called 'Why Good Programmers Are Lazy and Dumb'. I must say that I am very impressed by this article. It had me convinced almost 100%. Part of it also brought back relief and confidence to me. I bet there something you can ponder from this article too. If not, maybe someday. For full articles go to http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2005-08-24-n14.html . Here I quoted the intro.

QUOTE(Philipp Lenssen)

Lazy, because only lazy programmers will want to write the kind of tools that might replace them in the end. Lazy, because only a lazy programmer will avoid writing monotonous, repetitive code - thus avoiding redundancy, the enemy of software maintenance and flexible refactoring. Mostly, the tools and processes that come out of this endeavor fired by laziness will speed up the production.

PHP and MS DOC template

If anybody of you out there ever use PHP to handle DOC file within the browser itself?

What I mean is, how do you guys open DOC file in the browser for editing purpose in the browser itself. What I have done so far is converting DOC into HTML and loading them into WYSIWYG editor. Another thing I have in mind is divide them into parts such as header, contents, footer, etc before loading them into their tables. The server is linux so the PHP COM thingy is not my options etc. Please advice.

Jokes Section Under Codemaster

We don't worry about warnings, we only worry about errors."

============================================

A grade school teacher was asking his pupils what their parents did for a living. "Tim, you be first. What does your mother do all day?"
Tim stood up and proudly said, "She's a doctor."
"That's wonderful. How about you, Amy?"
Amy shyly stood up, scuffed her feet and said, "My father is a mailman."
"Thank you, Amy" said the teacher. "What does your parent do, Billy?"
Billy proudly stood up and announced, "My daddy plays piano in a whorehouse."

The teacher was aghast and went to Billy's house and rang the bell. Billy's father answered the door. The teacher explained what his son had said and demanded an explanation. Billy's dad said, "I'm actually a system programmer specializing in TCP/IP communication protocol on UNIX systems. How can I explain a thing like that to a seven-year-old?"

============================================

A boy was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said,

"If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess."

He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful Princess, I will stay with you for one week."

The boy took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a Princess, I'll stay with you and do *anything* you want."

Again the boy took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally the frog asked, "What is it? I've told you I'm a beautiful Princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do *anything* you want. Why won't you kiss me?"

The boy said, "Look, I'm a computer programmer. I don't have time for girlfriends, but a talking frog is really cool."

============================================

A system programmer came home from work almost at dawn and told his wife enthusiastically: "Tonight I have installed a new release of MVS/ESA together with VM/CMS and CICS/VS".
"G.O.O.D" answered his wife.

Eventhough we have our very own Jokes Heaven section, I do think most of them will find computer jokes not funny if I post one in there. I was told by one of my IT senior student claimed that I can be a good programmer if I am working in linux enviroment. How far this claimed true in real life?

One more question, why I should migrate using linux instead of remain using windows?

Thanks.
