Wifi extender within same LAN

My macmini on board wifi hardware goes kaput. Now no longer can access wifi. The macmini ethernet port still working. Pulling a long ethernet cable from router to macmini is not ideal within the house. I prefer wireless. Also it must be able access to other PCs and devices on the same LAN (IP class C).

Searching online, suggestion would be wifi extender or bridge seems to be the solution. Most vendors sell wifi extender but not bridge. I am looking at TP-Link RE705X or similar with wifi connection to my tplink AX3000 router. The wifi extender connect to macmini via short ethernet cable.

Can anyone tell me, will macmini using wifi extender can connect/access to internet and local LAN (same IP group) ?

Thanks in advance.

Upgrading GPU

I am thinking to upgrade graphic card, preferably Nvidia, GTX 970 or 980. I prefer not to over clock my PC, leave it as it is.
Currently using 23" monitor (1080p). Probably not upgrading to new high resolution monitors few years later. Running some heavy 3D games, power supply load is about 200W (reading from meter). I think power supply should be more than enough.

Here is my current rig configuration.

Intel i7-3770 Processor
16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Motherboard Gigabyte Intel GA-Z77X-D3H
Power Supply SilverStone 700W SST-ST70F-ES
Leadtek GFX660TI 2GB 2048MB DDR5

Is there a substantial improvement for 660Ti upgrading to 970 or 980 ?
Does changing graphic card, this affects my Windows 10 license ?

Please do suggest, budget around 1K to 2K. TIA.

Copying from Windows 7 hard disk

I have an existing Windows 7 in the PC. The hard disk is free from any errors. I decided not to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 but to get a new hard disk and clean install Window 10. Windows 10 is running fine.

Next I shutdown the PC and plugin Window 7 hard disk into another SATA port. Boot it up and Window 10 comes with message fixing hard disk (chkdsk or something can't remember, it is usually disk corrupt or etc). However the hard disk fixing goes on for a long time. I decide to stop, shutdown, take out Windows 10 hard disk and boot up Windows 7. Under Windows 7 it fix disk, it took not very long it boot to be OK.

I try this a few time, when ever Windows 7 hard disk mount under Windows 10, it will fix hard disk for a long time. It seems Windows 10 does not like Window 7 formatted hard disk.

Any one have any idea how to solve this problem ?
There are a lot of files in the Windows 7 hard disk.
Please help.

Just got myself an iPad 2. At The moment I am using one single ID for my iPhone 4 & iPad 2. My iPad is for home use only. If I am not mistaken, one apple ID only entitled to one cloud storage of 5GB. Do not know if imessage recognize different devices using one apple ID.

Multiple apple ID would also mean separate software purchases for each device.

I wonder for those who own a few iDevice, iPhone, iPod & iPad, how would you setup your apple ID, single ID or multiple ID ?
WTA Renovation & eletrical wiring

I am about to renovate my new two storey house, build a new wet kitchen area (at the back, ground floor) to 16' * 12' and some wiring work for water heater and a aircond. The plan have been drafted, ready for submission. I have already ask contractors to quote prices and some give different advices.

The situation is this,

1) Soft land (kitchen area)

I have experience this before, the rented house I currently staying nearby have some serious cracks. Even some of the roads that area, the soil sink. I am not taking any chances, so I ask them for advice. Some recommended making thicker concrete with wire (slab ?, sorry I not good with technical terms). Some says do piling using some sort of wood (pakau ?).

Since there is no road, just a drain at the back of the house, it is not possible to use tractor to press the wood into the ground. It have to be done by hammering using workers for about 5 meters deep.

What's the best option ?

2) Wiring for water heater and one air cond.

The previous house owner did not do wiring for one bathroom (water heater) and another room (air cond), both upstairs. I have been advised to do direct wiring from the fuse box ground floor. Otherwise it may overload if sharing with power wires. The problem is the house has already renovated and decorated.

i) The contracter suggest replaced all the ground floor tiles and at the same time do wiring from fuse box go underneath the tiles, right to the back and up to upper floor. Rough estimated at least RM10k. The ground floor tiles not so good condition but however still bearable to me.

ii) Another suggest the wires go up from the fuse box to outside (front) and goes upwards to top floor. However the cost is unknown because do not know how much work need to do and have to repaint the whole wall after laying & cover up the wires.

Is there any other alternative ways of doing this ?
I heard solar panel can be use but require piping and installation, cost is also not cheap. Air cond wiring can be still "shared" according to what I heard but not water heater.

WTA : Value of used Mac

In the past I have bought many PCs, macs, gadgets and etc. Most of the time I used it until it is really slow or about four years or so before buying a new one. Some of this stuff, is no longer used. Often store & "rot" somewhere, sometimes given to friends and relatives.

This time around I am thinking getting a new Mac, maybe MacBook Pro or iMac. However I intend to used it for 1 or 2 years and then sell it off. Do not want to keep old stuff around, hope to get latest tech every once in a while. I am not familiar with used/second hand market, so I am asking for some advice.

1) A rough value after sometime

used Mac for 1 year => ?? % (value left)
used Mac for 2 years => ?? %
used Mac for 3 years => ?? %
used Mac for 4 years => ?? %

What do you guys think ?

2) Where or whom should I sell it to ? ebay, mudah or etc ? Deal with cash ?

3) Instead of above strategy, perhaps rent a Mac ? Is there such service in Malaysia ?

Apple Overtakes Microsoft in Market Capitalization

Congratulations Apple ! Finally beat Microsoft at least in market capitalization.

More than ten years ago, I remembered it was all doom and gloom for Apple. Nobody thinks Apple will survive. There were talks of selling the company or bankruptcy. Thanks to Steve Jobs, his leadership manage to turn around the company and make it the most profitable technology company in the US and world.

Steve Ballmer, look who is laughing at you.

========================================

Apple Overtakes Microsoft in market capitalization

May 26 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc., the computer maker turned mobile gadgeteer, overtook Microsoft Corp. to become the most valuable technology company on optimism the company will keep adding customers for its iPhone, Macintosh computer and iPad.

Apple’s market value reached $222.1 billion, surpassing Microsoft’s $219.2 billion at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. That makes Apple the most valuable technology firm in the world. It’s also the second-largest U.S. stock by market value, behind oil company Exxon Mobil Corp., valued at $278.6 billion on the New York Stock Exchange.

Modem, router or Streamyx ?

PS : "Reset session" is the term use by Streamyx support people, don't know what it means, probably resetting login or something.
For example download a file from a website, the speed is about 20K per second but when direct connect to my Aztech modem, the download speed can reach maximum of 170K. Even web browsing is quite slow when using router.

Recently I test with my friend's router linksys WRT54GS, the downloading speed came close to 160k which is not bad. Is there anything I can do to fix/upgrade the router ?

I am considering buying a new router, what do you think guys ?
