"Our soft approach has failed. Education and imposing penalties for water wastage has failed," he added.

Water consumption in Penang was the highest in the country at 295 litres per capita per day last year.

For the first two months of this year, the figure went up to 311 litres per capita per day, an increase of 5.4%.

Another excuse for traders to jack up prices?

Anyway, I support this because I noticed in our daily lives, we are seriously wasting too much water...

But I foresee PG giving free water like Selangor with the increased revenue, for political reasons...

1.    I’m understand that MPSP hard to change public minded to avoid rubbish throw merata-rata. But it has brought bad impression to outsider/tourists.

What I share with CM that, Re: cleaner and greener at Butterworth have to improve. We can found longgokan sampah haram everywhere. Frankly to say, we butterworth guys are familiar with longgokan sampah haram. Mostly people haven’t lodged the complaints, but it doesn’t mean they accepted the living environment now.

We believe that, Contractors MPSP have done well on their job. But longgokan sampah haram stillmaking the problem. As I know, Longgokan sampah haram not in jadual kutipan.

My consider is, whether can MPSP have a mechanism to settle this kind of problem (Longgokan sampah haram)?

2. I was drove along Jalan Ong Yi how last Saturday. Around 15 mins only, just sharing what I saw. (Kindly find the attached file.)

3.    I knows that MPSP had work hard on it, therefore I felt embarrassing if I lodge too much of complaints. Some members of press always joke that our government just settle what problem they write in newspapers. Like example, isu longgokan sampah selepas pengalihan tong sampah di SRJKC Chung Hwa 3. If they didn’t write, problem will still there. Not only this cases, because we care about public impression. As government we need always alert and solve it before public complaints lodged.

4.    My suggestion:

i. Pegawai-pegawai Jabatan need turun padang walk around do spot-check against all contractors.

ii. Installed CCTV not the long-term solutions. Improving public awareness more efficient.

iii. Straight enforcement against public.

iv.   Lead and works together with YB and councilors following the mechanism if can.

Intel to cut 5% of staff after forecasting no growth this year

The world's biggest computer chip maker, Intel, says it will cut its workforce by 5% as it expects no revenue growth in 2014.

The company told Reuters news agency that it would reduce its global workforce of 107,000.

Intel's gloomy earnings report this week knocked its share price, which was down 2.6 at the close.

A spokesman, Chris Kraeuter, said: "This is part of aligning our human resources to meet business needs."

The weak forecast comes as chip makers continue to be hurt by a drop in sales of personal computers (PCs).

Revenues at Intel's division which makes chips for desktop computers fell 4% in 2013, from a year ago.

However, the company said there had been signs in the past few months that the PC sector was "stabilising".

According to its latest earnings, the PC chip division generated revenues of $8.6bn (£5.2bn) in the October-to-December quarter of 2013, compared with $8.5bn a year ago.

"We had a solid fourth quarter with signs of stabilisation in the PC segment and financial growth from a year ago," said Intel chief executive Brian Krzanich.

For the full year 2013, the firm reported a net profit of $9.6bn, down 13% from a year ago.

'Disappointed again'

Sales of PCs have fallen for six quarters in a row, hurt by the growing popularity of tablets and smartphones.

As a result, computer chip makers have been looking to boost growth in other divisions and areas to try and sustain their growth.

In case of Intel, analysts have been focussing on the performance of its data centre business.

Intel said the division's revenues rose 8% in the last quarter of 2013, from a year earlier. However, the rise was less than what some analysts had expected.

"The incremental nugget we got from fourth quarter earnings was that data centre group disappointed again," said Patrick Wang an analyst with advisory firm Evercore. He said investors were anticipating a healthy performance from the division.

Intel's chief financial officer, Stacy Smith, said the division's revenues in 2014 would probably come in toward the bottom of the previous estimate of 10% to 15% growth.

'Bringing innovation'

Intel has also taken other steps to create new growth areas and offset the impact of slowing PC sales on its business.

At the recently held Consumer Electronics Show (CES), in Las Vegas, the firm showcased various new technologies.

That included a 3D-camera technology, where one of its depth sensors could be used to interpret gesture controls and to separate foreground objects from the background.

It said laptops featuring the technology would go on sale this year.

The company also unveiled a series of new concept wearable technologies - seen by many as a key growth area in the coming years.

The products showcased included Smart earbuds -which act as an activity tracker as well as play music and a smartwatch hat can connect to the internet without needing to be linked to a phone.

"We've built a strong foundation for our business by bringing innovation to the market more quickly across a wide range of computing platforms," said Mr Krzanich.

"At [the] CES, we demonstrated multiple devices that weren't on our roadmap six months ago."

[GEORGE TOWN: Owners of affordable and low-cost homes in Penang will find it tougher to sell their properties as the state government plans to enforce strict rules to curb property speculation.

From Feb 1 next year, owners of affordable homes (bought for below RM400,000 on the island and RM250,000 on the mainland) would be barred from reselling their properties in the first five years of ownership.

Meanwhile, owners of public housing (low and low-medium cost units) bought for RM72,500 or less cannot sell their units for 10 years.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said affordable and public housing owners who wished to sell their units during the moratorium would have to appeal to the state government, and if given the green light, could only sell to qualified “listed buyers” who were registered with the state housing department.

Lim said in a statement that the new rulings would cover past and future purchases.

The new regulations also stipulate that foreigners can only buy property valued at RM1mil or more, and the threshold is increased to RM2mil if it is a landed property on the island.

A three per cent levy would be imposed on properties bought by foreigners, but an exemption would be made if the property is for industrial use, or “promotes employment, education and human talent”, said Lim.

“A two per cent levy will be imposed on the seller, for all properties sold within three years from the date of the Sales & Purchase Agreement signed from Feb 1, 2014. Property bought with the SPA signed before Feb 1, 2014, will not be subject to this levy.

“This two per cent levy is not applicable to affordable housing,” he said.

He said the new housing rules were announced during the tabling of the 2014 state budget at the state assembly sitting but was refined for clarity and certainty during the last Penang state exco meeting.

Meanwhile, Penang Real Estate Housing Developers Association (Rehda) chairman Datuk Jerry Chan said the new rules would limit the pool of property buyers as owners could only sell their units to “qualified buyers” registered with the state housing department.

He said the state government should clarify if this new restriction applied to private property as the change was too drastic.

“It is also not right to impose the new rule on past purchases as these restrictions were not there when purchasers bought the property at that time.

“The new rule will have an impact on the selling price of the property because of the reduced number of purchasers. Changes will have to be undertaken progressively to see the impact,” he said.

not sure about the property market in the Island, but i really pity those speculators who bought apartments in the mainland to flip if this applies to the private market too

Expert: Penang property market speculative in nature

It is not fair to compare property prices in Penang with those in Singapore and Hong Kong, says CA Lim & Co’s principal Lim Chien Aun.

“No doubt among the cheapest in the region, Penang, however, is not a financial centre like Singapore and Hong Kong, where there is substantial expatriate population to support high-end properties.

“Furthermore the foreign participation in the local property market is less than 8%,” Lim said, on the frequent comparison of property prices in Penang with Hong Kong and Singapore.

On the speculative nature of the Penang property market, Lim said as the return-on-investment (ROI) was not attractive in Penang, most investors buy properties for capital appreciation reasons and not for rental yields.

“In other words, the Penang property market is very speculative in nature,” he added.

In view of the high pricing of residential properties in Penang, the sub-sales market has now become important, said Raine & Horne Malaysia director Michael Geh.

He said more people were going after secondary property because of the pricing which ranged between RM72,000 and RM350,000.

Geh said strategically located affordable apartments with built-up areas of 700sq ft to over 800sq ft such as the Serina Bay in Sungai Pinang were now selling for RM350,000, compared to RM130,000 in 2005.

“Some apartment projects like the Symphony Park in Jelutong and Ocean View in Sungai Pinang have appreciated respectively to RM400,000 and RM380,000, compared to RM130,000 and RM150,000 when they were first sold in 2000 and 2001, due to their strategic locations,” he said.

The Ocean View units have built-up areas of 870sq ft, while the Symphony Park units are 730sq ft.

“On the island, the sub-sales properties are found largely in the south-west district and in Seberang Prai,” said Geh.

“The problem, however, is with the limited sub-sales supply, as there will be many who are also unwilling to sell at the sub-sales price.

“There are also no reasons for them to sell. If they were to give up their homes below the market price, how are they going to take up another home?”

Ideal Property Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Alex Ooi said the group planned to develop 2,000 units of affordable properties priced around RM200,000, RM300,000 and RM400,000 in Bayan Lepas next year.

“These will take three years to increase. We will plan more of such affordable homes in the near future on the island,” he said.

Penang Town and Country Planning and Housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the state government planned to deliver eight affordable projects comprising 20,000 housing units, three on the island and five in Seberang Prai.

“These properties will be priced between RM72,000 and RM400,000.

“On the island, the location for the projects are in Jalan S.P. Chelliah, Teluk Kumbar and Jelutong.

“In Seberang Prai, the sites for the projects are Kampung Jawa Butter-worth, Ampang Jajar, off Jalan Be-rapit, Bukit Juru and Batu Kawan,” Jagdeep said.

In 2012, according to the National Property Information Centre (Napic), total transactions of residential properties in Penang fell by 23% to 23,266 from 30,674 in 2011, while the total value of transactions was down 7.5% to RM7bil from RM7.7bil in 2011.

Am building a new gaming rig to replace my 4 year old PC..... I have done some research around and came out with these specs:

Hi,

I currently have a black w900i but I am thinking of changing to a slimmer phone. (W900i is super thick IMO )

I am thinking of passing the phone to my brother but he wants the casing changed to white first.

So, can you all share with me where is the best place & price to change the casing in the northern region (I want ori one). I heard from phone salesperson before that it is possible to swap all the external casing to change the black to white.
