Hi guys,

Was just wondering, if you were to complete an automotive diploma with SKM level 2 Motor Vehicle Technician and City and Guilds Diploma in vehicle maintenance and repair,
what are the possible positions one can expect, in terms of applying for a job?

Its basically just for auto repairs? Which means you will just remain as their technician for lets say a service center? Or is there more to it?

The reason i would like to know, i have a passion for the automotive scene and motorsports. At the moment i am self learning with my own cars and such. But just wanted to know my options if i actually wanted to have a career in this field. Working for a mechanic (had a friend) they are not so keen to teach you fast as they are worried you will be their competitor. They treat knowledge as their rice bowl therefore hard to pursue info. And after watching some of my friends, where some mechanics actually just keep them around to do basic maintenance like oil changes and the easy stuff for even a year or two. This is a waste of time as there is no progression, as im more interested in engine rebuilds, tuning ecu's and enhancing performance.

Most of the people i know who are in this field, were basically mechanics at a young age and progressed through the years from trial and error of their customers car.

TC Tech (tan chong technical institute) offers this course, im wondering if it would be worth while. And even if they offer me a job, it will most likely just be a technician position, am i right to assume this?

Or is it mainly for those who complete this course and start their own workshop ?

I hope to get some constructive feedback, im trying to find a career path which i love and enjoy.

Asus Warranty Scam

I have purchased an Asus LCD monitor, which suddenly 1/3 of the display is just black(dead). The product is still within its warranty period. I checked on the website and dropped by the service center in Ipoh, to get it fixed, however was advised that they only accept handphones. The staff told me to contact customer service and they will get it sorted out. Contacted customer service on 27/07/2016 at 2.09pm.

Staff mentioned product still within warranty, and will arrange somebody to pick it up from my address. He took all my information and said he making the arrangements and placed me on hold. After about 10 minutes or so, he tells me, that it cant be done i need to return the screen to the shop it was purchased. I advised him that was impossible, as i purchased when i was working in Johor, and now im in Ipoh. He then without telling me what i can do, he just repeated that i need to return it to Johor, without even understanding that ï dont live there anymore and its like 700km away. I requested to speak to a manager he said he will arange a callback within the day, and of course im not suprised no call back was given up to date.

Ive read the terms, and it was only mentioned that i need to have my receipt of purchase, furthermore staff has confirmed that warranty still valid until 2017. He and the service center both mentioned they will arrange a pick up service and suddenly out of no where they said they cant. When i asked tell me where i can drop it off for repair, he just repeated that i need to send to the shop where i purchased it from.

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on? What is the point of Asus warranty in this case? I bought this for its reputation, and it failed so quickly. Ive had so many other monitors, even my cheap chimei been running for 6 years not a single issue. This asus is barely a year old. To make matters worse, Asus gives fake assurances like 3 year warranty, but no where in its terms says must be return to location of purchase. Ive asked around to see if it can be fixed and they said its too expensive better to buy a new one, because the screen is the problem and not circuitry.

To those who intend to purchase Asus stuff, and you're an adult who works in different areas, i strongly suggest you rethink your decision of buying Asus. Now im left with a dead screen, a 3 year warranty, receipt, but since i dont stay where i purchased it anymore, asus refuses to honour its warranty eventhough this is not in their terms. Anybody know what i can do about this? Since their management is not calling me and also replying to my complaint? Is there anyway i can take action about this?

hi guys need your advice on a situation i am in.

I have this as a set (pic below), the problem here is my remote kong, and i need to change it to AUX mode, so i can use the speakers and amp for my tv etc. however i cant get a replacement remote, went to those audio shops for a universal remote, they said this is dvd with home theatre so cant use those remotes.

need ur advice on either :

a) if there is a way to manually change to AUX mode, my model is HT-CN890DV. on the player interface there is only play pause stop open and volume.

b) if i have to replace the AMP, what kind must i get? AVR or those HT amp ? and if you have any for sale which i can use, pls drop me a pm or post it here, COD KL or IPOH . this set doesnt have those proprietary type of speaker wires, its the standard wires.

im trying to avoid buying a whole new set.

Hi guys,

So i need an amp mainly because i bought the Sharp HT set, comes with an dvd player with a built in amp. Needless to say the sound is crap. The player crapped out on me, and i wanna get a basic amp with 5.1 to connect all the speakers, and must have optical input to connect from my tv to the amp. Because my pc,ps3 is all connected to my tv via hdmi.

im not a pro in this scene, just wanna get those speakers working again, am open to suggestions but of course on a tight budget. if you have any HT amp that can suite this usage please pm/post here the model, price and a pic will be nice. Want just an amp, not one with built in DVD or Blu ray

FSB Voltage and MCH Overvoltage

Guys im very new to overclocking. i just need clarification on FSB voltage and MCH overvoltage( NB volt). i read alot on all the other stuff like, frequence, multipliers, dividers, vcores etc. im just not sure on NB and FSB.

Ram : Kingston 2x2GB = total 4GB.
OS : Windows 7 32bit

Need some advice on the current setup.

Sometimes when i switch the pc on, it wont post, no error sounds, no beeps nothing. I have to switch off everything, and re-sit the ram, then it will post and boot into windows. I turn my pc off, went to bed. Next morning, same thing, cant post. so now i changed the ram to the other 2 slots, and can boot.

May i know what is the reason for this to happen? i did some reading and they were saying something about changing the voltage but i dont really understand what they mean. was hoping lyn members can help me out to troubleshoot this problem.

Guys im having a problem with my streamyx for a week now.

The modem DSL light is stable. The internet light was red. I resetted the modem. The light turned green.

but still no connection.

any idea what else i can do or any setting i can check to resolve this?

i called stupid TM, they said they have to send a technician to check, i work morning till night mond-friday, they expect me to wait till saturday to arrange a techinician to come over. i was hoping to get help from here instead, as im sure the guys here are much more tech savvy than those nuts.

Change Of Ownership Without Runner Procedure

I've seen this question quite a few times here and there, just thought ill do a short step by step write up to help those who need to DIY cause runner fee's are RIDICULOUS.

1. Buyer and seller to discuss who will pay for inspection and change of ownership fees.
-Inspection Rm30
-Change Name - Rm150

2.Seller to bring the vehicle to puspakom for inspection with geran/registration card. Request for a form at the counter. Complete inspection and collect the slip/result.
B5 - if new owner buys with cash
B5/B7 - if new owner is using hire purchase/car loan, once done provide approval slip to bank and bank will do name transfer on their side, you pay the bank rm300-400 depends on the banks...they call this transfer fee if I'm not mistaken.

-please remove your tint if it's too dark yourself by going over to an accesory shop, they can charge between rm30-60 depends on car/place etc.. if not puspakom guys will just tear it off and leave the gum all there or just fail you.
-some are even open on saturdays for those who are busy working during weekdays. can check out their site

3.Proceed to JPJ for change of name request with geran and all the documents above., request change of ownership(tukar nama) document at front desk. Fill form of new and old owners details. Obtain que number from front desk and proceed to counter for IC and thumbrpint verification for both new and old vehicle owner.

4.If one party is out of state, they can go to their respective JPJ branch and complete the procedure seperately.

For those who cant go to jpj directly:

Runner fees for inspection can range from rm80-rm150, and change name rm300. for those who dont have time, can use this services. For those who needs special request due to punched engine number, mounting modification, no approvla for sunroof etc or aka special case, you have no choice but to bare the fee's of a runner which is going to cost definitely more than Rm150 for special case. I even heard of Rm1k for this kind of situations.

Prepare your geran, photocopy of IC buyer and seller and hand over to runner. He will also need the original signed copy of the forms mentioned above.

ADDED:

For those who want, can aslo call puspakom 03-20527474 and schedule an appointment 3 days in advance to come over to your house and perform the inspection Rm100 service fee+rm30. However only certain branches can offer this services, so check at the link above or contact them.

Buyer and seller work out a deal to payoff the amount charged by used car for their fees. Maybe 50/50 etc.

Option 4
Seller clears the loan him/herself and wait for the disbursement by the buyers bank, you'll get back the cash
I hope this message reaches out to all sellers and buyers, because i feel this is really absurd. the way banks and the dealerships is playing around with the people. So before you get stuck in this cycle, PLEASE let your friends and family know.... if you are buying or selling a car, ALWAYS check if it has an existing loan, then advise the seller that it must be cleared before you apply for a new loan. Once you apply and approved, they win.

Hire Purchase/Car Loan New Procedure

I have been told that banks have new procedure for 2nd hand car purchase.

Buyer has to pay the bank the deposit, and bank will pay the seller full sum of purchase price after loan approval. is this true?

example:

Seller sells the car at 80k. Max loan 72k. Buyer is to pay the bank 8k upon signing the agreement and the bank will then pay seller full sum of 80k. Can anybody verify this?

The reason im asking is, after loan approval, its common that we will do some last minute bargaining before signing anything. So what happens then? if the buyer manage to knockdown to lets say 75k what is going to happen? the bank will still ask for 8k downpayment balance? or do i just pay the 3k ?

hope any bank staff/agent here can help clarify this asap. thanks

No Signal To Monitor, Bad Bios Checksum

Ok,

this is gonna be a long story,but i will try me best to summarize it..

i left my pc off for 1 week,i was out of town,removed the main power plug from the wall and left.When i get back,i switch my pc on,it boots up like normal....when reached my desktop screen...then it restarts automatically.When it gets to that Bios screen ( ASUS blue color screen,normally you can press <DEL> to enter settings) it then turns black and says bad bios checksum.checking for cd-drive floppy bla bla not found....so i power off the pc.

I switch it back on,Now i dont even get a signal on my monitor when i power up.So for a few days i have googled for answers and tried many possible solutions.

removed power cord, hold down the ON button on the casing for 1 minute and switch pc on.This actually worked,i got a signal,but it just hangs at that ASUS screen,and when i press <DEL> F1 or anything nothing happens....So i off the Pc...and clear the CMOS,remove the battery,change the jumpers from pin1-2 to 2-3 for 30minutes..then i put the battery back in...change the jumper to pin 1-2 and on again...same thing happens...it stays at ASUS screen...Then i off and on again..it goes back to the no signal thing.

so naturally i try the same thing again....pull out the power cords,do a basic test...removed my cd driver,floppy,and leave 1 piece of ram and removed my harddisk....and hold the power button down for 1 minute....put the power cord back in..and switch ON....still no screen....my monitor is like in standby mode.

I cant get into BIOS to reset everything to default. I cant do anything basically such as flash my bios or what cause i my screen is not coming on.some ppl suggest to re-seat my graphics card,strip everything and put it back together..i haven't done this yet....but was hoping anybody can give me possible solutions? some ppl solved this by doing nothing....such as just opening and putting back the pc together ... any other ideas ah guys?

tonight i will go home,try to dismantle my graphics card,HD,cd drive and floppy...and fix it back together with hope it will work...do you think i should i remove my CPU also ? and put it back together? i am running out of ideas...and can't take it anymore....getting too frustrated.

The last time i had a serious problem...google couldnt fix it...but this forum helped...one guy in paricular fixed it for me...i am hoping to find a magician again for this annoying issue.

Guys , to those who can be a real pal which i will forever be indebted to , ive tried A MILLION times to download this client it always freaking fails by the time i hit 70 - 80% which requires at least 7 - 10 hours of downloading it will stop and just fail , please some1 HELP! Can anybody who so happen to have this client setup pls burn it in a CD and send by poslaju to me? im from johor if you are from johor ANY PART im willing to come to your doorstep to collect the CD PLEASE !!! If youre not from Johor , if ur kind enough to arrange Poslaju to my address ill pay for postage and your time , BUT not too much la =.=" .

Asus P4P800S-X Cant Boot into Windows.

To anyone who might be able to share your experience or knowledge that might save me to fork out cash when i dont need to. My mobo as mentioned above will not boot into windows. It all started when my CMOS batt died and i decided to upgrade my ram at the same time. i bought a kingston ddr 1GB ram and a new cmos batt,when i put it all in. I had this error 1st . "overclocking failed" and cant boot into windows.. after tons of research over the net,million ppl asked to clear cmos by using jumpers and remove batt. That didnt help.

Then i thought it was a overheating issue,checked temperature 50-52c ,so cant be that. PSU 480 watts new,still cant. Put back my old ram and removed the new kingston ram,still cant.Took my HDD and used on another desktop,can boot.

After resetting cmos,i get a new error , "New Cpu Found" everytime i hit defaults and save F10,it reboots to the same screen and asked me the same thing over and over again.

Then I updated to the most recent bios . 1012 i think cant remember but its the most recent, now ,theres no error msg BUT ...it boots until "Start Windows Normally / Last known Good Configuration / Safe Mode" when i use and of these options it will reboot back to post and this repeat over and over again.

Im seriously stuck now , i cant seem to get anymore info or possibilities what might have or IS causing this. Just before the cmos batt died and change of ram my pc was FINE. Anyones help is very much appreciate it.
