Apple Watch Repair

Hi!

I have a Apple Watch Series 3 bought 2017 (4 years old already) that's not turning on or charging anymore.

Holding down both buttons (hard reset) will show the apple logo for about 1 sec, before disappearing again then zero response.

Went to Machines, they say cannot repair, ask me buy new one instead....

My questions:

1. Can recommend any shop/place that can repair the watch? I'm thinking it's probably a battery problem.
2. Estimated cost of repair and is it worth repairing?
3. How old is your Apple Watch that you are still using? (to get an idea of a typical lifespan of an apple watch)
4. Aside from telling time and health (steps/heart rate/etc) tracing, the most useful and frequently used feature that i like is the ability to unlock my phone when wearing mask. Are there any other watches or bluetooth device that can unlock our phone in a similar manner?

Thank you all in advance!

The Accountant

Hi! I run a very small business and currently would like to engage a freelance accountant to help me with my accounting/book keeping needs. I've used an accounting firm before from the beginning of my business and because I'm not too happy with their work, I've decided to try out a seemingly experienced but freelance accountant that works from home. Found this freelance accountant on the internet, so is practically a complete stranger to me.

Question: Since the accountant will be privy to all the transactions of the company, information like customer lists, supplier lists, price lists, invoices, POs, costs, profit margin, etc would be at the accountant's disposal. What's stopping the accountant from abusing this info (sell the info to competitor, start a new company to compete with me, etc)?

Am I being overly paranoid or is this really not an issue at all?

Does an accountant has some kind of a professional code of conduct/ethics that they are bound by? Do they need some kind of license to operate as an accountant?

What measures can I take to protect my company's interest when i engage an accountant? I know there's a non-disclosure agreement / confidentiality agreement but do people actually use these when engaging an accountant? (I heard it would cost a lot to draft such an agreement and I have to engage a lawyer to draft such an agreement to protect myself from an accountant???) Sometimes when i think about this i felt kinda silly...that maybe i'm overthinking this and got paranoid...

Would appreciate any advice or sharing of experience. Thank you!

Hi all!

I'm in desparate need for help/advice/recommendation

I have 2 dogs at home, a male and a female.

Recently, the female dog got infected with some kind of fungal infection. Started with under the jaw/chin/neck area... it got so itchy till she scratched herself till bleeding.

Went to the first vet who said she got some kind of food/environmental allergy which resulted in itchy skin which then was scratched till bleed and got infected with fungus. Was given the cone collar to prevent her from scratching further and some medicine.

didn't work. she kept scratching despite the collar and she got really agitated with the itchiness...it also started to smell really bad (due to the fungus). tried changing the diet to the expensive vet recommended types but also didn't help. went back and forth with this vet for 2-3 months (vet said this kind of allergy need long time to recover).

finally got tired and helpless looking at the poor dog, so went to 2 other separate different vets (2-3 months for each vet) but same result...

the itch still there, can see the fungal infection (black patch of powdery like substance which gives off a very very foul smell) and it spread from neck to the front legs and now underbelly...

i'm out of ideas. it's getting pretty bad and the smell is so so so very bad now till i want to puke... she's always itchy and scratches herself and sometimes she'd somehow get off the colar and end up biting her own legs (the infected part) till bleeding.

how can i help her????

Can someone recommend a good vet/medicine or any good advice at all? I'ts almost 1 year already and I can't seem to be able to find any solution!!!

The other male dog is perfectly fine, no issues at all even though they goth stay the same place, eat the same stuff, drink the same water.

Call forwarding services while on overseas holiday

Hi all!

I used to purchase a service from flexiroam for my overseas travel...

Example : I buy 10 days of the service for my travel in Japan, I get a local phone number from flexiroam where i will forward all my mobile calls to for these 10 days... then when i actually reach japan, i will buy a local Japan SIM card and link the local Japan number to the flexiroam service. Once that is done, anyone who calls my mobile number will be directed to my local Japan number... it's like the people who call me doesn't even know i'm overseas away from malaysia... I can also make calls back to Malaysia numbers using the local Japan number (incurring only local Japan call rates)..

However, flexiroam is no longer offering this service...

May i know if there are other companies offering the same service now?

Any help/recommendation would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
Jesse

Buying New Bike for Work (Workhorse)

Hi all!

Plan to buy a bike for work. My work revolves going around Klang Valley to customer's premises to service equipment installed at their premises. Will need to carry toolbox/toolbag/machine spare parts/consumables/etc so the bike need to have those extra storage boxes (i think they are called panniers or something) on both sides and another box on the top/back. Once a month, will need to go outstation to Melaka and Johor for 2-3 days. No budget set for now but hope for something practical.

a) What are my options?
b) The storage boxes comes with the bike or need third party aftermarket accessories shop and where to buy them
c) How secure are these boxes? Got cases of ppl breaking the box to steal things inside or steal the entire box also?

Appreciate any advice or if you can share your experience.

Thank youj!

Telegraphic Transfer : Missing money

Hi Guys!

Not sure if this is the correct subforum to post but here goes...

1. Made a telegraphic transfer (TT) more than 3 weeks ago from my local bank Maybank to a oversea supplier's foreign bank in Hong Kong. Currency transferred was in USD and due to the weak ringgit, the amount was quite substantial.

2. After a few days, I realized that I have put the correct recipient bank account number but wrong recipient account name (my bad, my mistake, the invoice was in one name and the bank account was another name). I quickly rushed back to the same Maybank branch and highlighted the issue to them and they said no problem, just send a amendment notice to correct it to the actual account name. Maybank said it may take 3-4 working days.

3. 1 week later, my supplier said still no sign of the fund being transferred. I went back to the local Maybank to enquire. Maybank told me they had already sent the message to correct the actual account name during (2) and that they have no control over what will happen now. Maybank ask me to wait a few more days.

4. 1 week later, fund still not transferred. FYI, the money had already been debited from my account during (1) but to date, my supplier still haven't receive the fund. I queried Maybank again and they said they are "puzzled" too.... I then had to instruct Maybank to follow up on this by sending another message to the recipient bank. Maybank then told me to wait another 3/4 working days..

5. Almost another week later, money still not transferred to my supplier bank account no.

Each time I go to Maybank, they will tell me to wait 3-4 working days for this and that to happen, bla bla saying it's standard procedure... I cannot believe in this day of email and broadband internet, sending a message takes 3-4 working days...

Maybank also said that when a TT is made, the money will be transferred to a middleman (agent), who then transfers it to the recipient bank... all this are apparently standard back office procedures... Once the money goes to the middleman, Maybank tells me that their responsibility ends..... Can you believe this???? Maybank says that whatever happens between the middleman and the recipient bank is something that is out of their control and they can only send messages to enquire/confirm/etc...

Can anybody here confirm this or have experience this before?

So, if I transfer money from my account to your account and you didn't receive the money, the bank can just say their job is done and they are not accountable to where the money has gone to?

And Maybank doesn't even bother to follow up, and I have to chase for an update every 3-4 working days????????

It's like I'm using a postal service to send cash to someone and now the money is "lost in transit"...

Is there anything I can do?

Data Backup : NAS or USB 3?

Hi all!

I recently started going into videography and photography hobbies and my HDD is filling up pretty fast...

I'm looking into data backup options but not too sure which to use : NAS or external desktop USB drives.

I've used WD products before, like the standard My Book (usb3) as well as the personal cloud (my book live duo). Based on my experience thus far, I kinda prefer usb3 external drives as I can transfer the data much faster compared to the personal cloud (transfer rate via wifi is horrible, so had to use Ethernet cable, but even with cable, it still seems slower than usb3)... And the thing is, the my book live duo died and all my data died with it...

So that's why now I'm looking into getting a better data backup solution... And I'm considering either getting a proper NAS (like synology products with RAID1) or getting 2 usb3 external drives and duplicate the data onto both drives one by one.

What would your advice be? NAS or 2 x usb3?

i want both speed and reliability...

Pls advice or share your experience !
The 3rd Side

Guys, guys, guys....

If you take a step back and look at things objectively, you'll see that there are 2 sides here, each championing their own cause and agendas... Be it Chinese side or Malay side... And in each of these 2 sides, there are extremist people flaming the issue and inciting more hatred and violence against the other side...

These extremists in each side are doing so either because they are being ignorant, and seeing the world thru their tinted glasses, or they are (more dangerously) doing it on purpose with an objective to push through their agendas (whatever it may be, ecomically/politically).

And sadly, things have escalated so much until the emotions and tensions on both sides are nearing a tipping point....

If I were a weapons manufacturer (guns, knives, machetes, grenades, etc) looking to make some serious sales, all I need to do now is to pay some money to some ignorant guy on each side, only 1 guy from each side or even 1 guy from 1 side will do... And have him fire one shot to the other side..... Things will escalate so quickly that there will be a civil war in the country.... And the weapon manufacturer will have a Malaysia-Ultimate-Sale and earn big bucks while the emotionally charged youths have an all out war on each other....

My fellow Malaysians, this is indeed a real world scenario and has happened on a global scale between countries... Do you want the same to happen here?

The problem with the current situation as I see it is there ought to be a leader rising up to the occasion and start to neutralize the situation ASAP.

Sadly no one stood up.

Now when there are no leader (or leaders) rising up to the occasion, are all hope lost? Are we destined to doom?

Heck no!!!!!

Aside from the 2 major sides (with extremists and opportunists) in the issue and the absence of true leaders in the country, there is the 3rd side....

The silent-peace-loving majority lot who are currently either praying to their own God(s) for peace or those planning their exit from the country in hope of a better future elsewhere, or those who can only talk (or b*tch) about it in kopitiams, mamak stalls, pubs, etc....

It's high time for this dormant majority to step up to the plate and take ownership of this country! Each of us (or most of us) are borned and grew up here and we each have a place in Malaysia and we need to protect it from the extremists and opportunists out there actively thriving now because no one is standing up to them.

And we do not have to resort to anything drastic like taking up arms and go up the violent alley...

Just remember, a leader from the past... another place... another country... (no reason why we can't learn and emulate from other great leaders)

Remember Mahatma Gandhi

Remember what he said.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

My life is my message.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Nobody can hurt me without my permission.

If one extremist side wants to gather at a place (be it Chinese or Malay), the 3rd side (our multiracial peaceful loving dormant majority) should also gather there in front of them. If they have 100 people, I'm sure we can easily have 1000 people or ten times whatever their amount is... And we stand hand in hand together, alternate between Chinese, Malay, Indian, etc to show our unity... And we stand strong and we stand our ground...

And we remember Gandalf too, "You SHALL NOT PASS!!!"

And we stand firm in unity protecting our motherland.

If they taunt us or even take a swipe at one of us, our entire 3rd side will all simultaneously take a step forward hand in hand.. And we repeat that every time they try to whack any or all of us... And I sincerely believe that they will back down eventually. Just remember not to react with violence and the 3rd Side will prevail.

Anyone up to sign up to join the 3rd Side?

Actually, if indeed one of these riots happened near you, you could do the same by asking the bystanders around you if they care enough to save the country and if they are game, hold hands together and stand up to them... Just make sure your group is larger than theirs before attempting this... Stay calm and united.

Fractured/broken Rib

Hi all,

I fell down from my bicycle after a minor accident yesterday morning, and aside from bruises and scratches on my left leg, I have this pain on my left ribcage. I thought it was nothing but now I suspect my rib/ribs may have suffered a hairline crack or even fracture cos now if I have to move slowly to prevent the pain in my chest.

Felt like a sharp pain if I press on the spot. Also if I breath too hard (blocked nose now) or if I sneeze, the same spot will feel the sharp pain. If pain level 1 (little pain) to level 10 (very painful), it's ard level 4-5.

1. What kind of doctor do I see? Any recommendation ard Puchong or Klang Valley?
2. what kind of scan or do I need to take a X-ray or MRI to detect the seriousness of the crack (if at all)
3. Would it heal/how long it takes to heal?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

TNB and SYABAS Issues

Hi guys! (I'm re-posting this topic from Kopitiam sub-forum to this sub-forum)

I've rented an office in a typical 3 storey shop lot, but use it only as a warehouse to store stuff... Don't really spend much actual time inside there as only will pickup and drop off stuff there...

I've not paid both the water and TNB bill for so long now (it's bright as day inside during office hours, so don't even need electricity to turn in lights) so much so that both the water and electric meter and board was dismantled by the authorities for unpaid outstanding bills.

This has been the case for more than a year now.

Question now is this....

Am I liable to pay back the outstanding bills (Tenaga & water) if I want to turn back on the electricity and/or water, or when I decide to not rent this unit anymore?

If yes,

am I only liable for the months the meter and bill was still in place
or
am I liable for the full period (including the periods where both the meter and board were taken away)?

As you may already know, even if you don't use any electricity or water in a commercial office/unit, they still charge you on a monthly basis.

Anyone can share their experience and/or advice?

Many thanks in advance!
