Need recommendations for slim and light

Hi,

I am selling my desktop and would like a laptop as replacement as I hardly game anymore and would prefer portability of a laptop.

What I am looking for is slim and light with good battery life, usage case is general pc usage (web browsing/youtube + dota2)
My budget is around rm 6-8k.

Specs I am looking for are 8th gen i5/i7, 8-16gb of ram, NVME storage, and IPS screen. TB3 support is a plus for future egpu expansion.
Also with a gpu for dota2 (1050ti/1060), would like it to be under 15", slim profile and weighs less than 2kg

What seems perfect to me is MSI GS65 Stealth Thin , however it is priced a bit higher than what I would like.
My other considerations are illegear Onyx, Dell XPS 15, and Asus ROG Zephyrus M GM501G.

Any other recommendations?

x58 ram problems

I've been having RAM problems with x58 since i switched to it nearly 2 years ago, RMA'ed 3 Rampage 2 Extreme with the same problem

with 3 sticks of 2GB RAM installed, only 4GB is usable, sometimes only 2GB. With CPU Z under memory, it is detected as triple channel, 6144mb. But in bios post screen, only 4GB, windows task manager also shows only 4GB.
Resource monitor shows that 2GB is Hardware Reserved.

The problem went away when I switched to Gigabyte X58A-UD7, I've been using the board for almost a year without this problem, until today. Again, only 4GB is detected in windows.
I spent half an hour rearranging my RAMs to get back my 6GB. But it lasted only a few minutes, before the PC restarted itself, and again only 4GB is usable.

From my past experience when this problem occurs, I find that rearranging the RAMs and booting the PC with 1 RAM at a time solves it, but its a long and tedious process, anybody has any other ideas how to solve this?

I've googled and found out many x58 boards face this problem, just didnt expect to be this unlucky to have changed 4 x58 boards all with the same problem

[attachmentid=1912392]

DVI port no display in windows

Just got new parts for my htpc, so i moved the old mobo and graphic card, hd4350 to another pc.

the hd4350 works just fine in bios screen and windows setup, but until the part where it actually logs into windows, there is no display on the dvi port. i tested with vga, no problems, and i've been running it on hdmi on my tv for months now, no problems as well.

i never tested the dvi port before, but the dvi displays the bios just fine, only when it reaches windows logon, the monitor went into stand by mode

i even tested extended display to both the dvi and vga on the same monitor, vga is fine, dvi is not

i tested with another card, 9400gt, and it can display windows just fine

btw, the 4350 is on the same mobo, with same processor and ram

windows is fresh, clean install, formatted a few times, tested with both windows 7 x86 and x64

any ideas?

EDIT:

nvm, found a solution, install drivers then no problems

good aftermarket coolers for 4850

Im running 4850 in crossfire and the temps are too high when oced, one of the cards would peak out at 100 degrees and shut down.

So i got an arctic cooling accelero twin turbo for 1 of my cards, originally wanted to get 2 but its too big to fit into the second card, unless i sacrifice my sound card.

So here i am asking for recommendations for a nice cooler for 4850, anything that performs better than asus glaciator and smaller than twin turbo.

Price wise, anything is fine i guess

Pic of my rig:

Thanks

I need recommendations for a PSU that is suitable for crossfiring 4850.

I'm currently using coolermaster m620, doubt thats enough power in the long run, my friend is gonna to buy the PSU from me, so I'm gonna get a better one.

I already have 2 4850 but haven't tried cf cos 1 of the cards is being RMAed , which is the reason I bought the second card

Budget is around 500-700 maybe, I can adjust my budget if its needed

All good recommendations are welcomed

Thanks

I need help deciding which processor to get

I sold my E6300 from my old rig to my friend, and planning to move my E8500 from my current rig to the old rig, and get a better 1, either E8600 or Q9550.

The money gained from selling the old stuff is about enough to cover for a new E8600, or I can add about another RM100 to get a Q9550.

Specs are:

P5Q Pro
2x2GB Corsair Dominator
4850 CF

My pc would be use for general usage + gaming, would OC my processor as well.

I would prefer it to be a little future proof since I plan to skip Core i7 and only change in at least 2-3 years time.

Thanks in advance

Higher OC with E8500

Currently my highest stable OC is 4180MHz, my specs are

E8500 (440x9.5) using Cooler Master Hyper 212
Asus P5Q Pro
2x2gb Kingson 800Mhz value ram

I set the vcore at 1.3625v at the bios, 2.0v for the ram and 1.3v for the nb, those are the only voltages I change.

Now I'm trying to achieve better OC, I bought new rams, Corsair dominator 2x2gb 1066MHz

I'm typing this post with my cpu clocked at 4.275 with 1.4v set in bios, I don dare to go any higher than that, but the OC is unstable I ran intel burn test and the residual (norm) don't match, havent really tried anyting else.

Any way to help me achieve better oc? Is it safe to set a higher vcore? since intel lists the voltage range at 1.3625v max.

Quad or OC RAM

I need recommendation on upgrading my rig, current config is

C2D E8500 clocked at 4180MHz
Asus P5Q Pro
2x2gb 800Mhz value ram
Asus EAH4850

My processor is overclocked just about as high as it can get with my value ram, I'm thinking about either getting a quad (q9550 maybe?) or a nice pair of OC ram to push my oc even higher

Any suggestions?

Really weird problems with my pc

I'm having a few weird problems with my pc

1. When i turn on computer, the monitor enter stand by mode, means it detected signal from the gc, but displays nothing and remains in stand by. The pc is running, cos i can hear the windows log in sound and i can even shut it down with keyboard commands.

I'll have to shut down the com and change the dvi cable to the second port on the gc and startup again only can, if the cable in second port, hav to change back 1st, very troublesome to do this over and over when turn on pc =_=, it doesnt happen all the time, but quite a few times already

2. At random times, my speaker will produce some kind of 'burst' sound, like 'piak' or someting like tat, sometimes it's a very soft sound, sometimes very loud. Its not a problem with my speakers as ive tried playing my ipod through it and its fine.

3. My mouse, razer lachesis, sometimes when turn on pc, the cursor wont work at all, all the buttons work just fine, only the cursor like stuck there. need to unplug and replug only can, another very troublesome ting with my pc

I hope someone can provide me with some solution, lol, my spec can be seen in my siggy

Thanks in advance
