Hi guys, anyone has any experience with the following data recovery centers?

My WD Green 500GB has stopped working suddenly, the drive is not spinning at all. I was hoping to retrieve the data by sending the hard disk to a data recovery center.

Can anyone give some review for me to choose one or if you have a better recommendation?

First time into NAS

Hi all,

I am planning to setup my first NAS, the main purpose is for remote access when I am away from home.

I currently have a spare Core 2 Quad Q6600 system with 4GB of RAM.

I have an existing 2TB and 4TB harddisk to be connected to the NAS. I intend to to purchase another 2x 2TB harddisk and use only two of them in RAID 1 configuration.

Do you think it is better to setup a DIY NAS with the spare Q6600 system I have or just purchase an all-in one system such as Synology?

SSD not detected in BIOS

Hi all,

My motherboard model is ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3. The motherboard has 6 Intel SATA ports. The bios is able to detect my SSD at SATA port 2 and my DVD drive at SATA port 4. However, if I switch my SSD to use other ports (i.e. SATA port 0/1/3), the BIOS will show the SATA ports as "Not Detected".

I have double checked that the SSD is working properly on other PCs. I have tried testing the ports with another working HDD and similar problem happened.

I am wondering if the problem is caused by a faulty motherboard or power supply? How do you check if the power supply is fully working properly?

If it is confirmed that the motherboard is faulty, does anyone know where to get a new LGA1155 motherboard now?

I'm using Windows 8.1. My computer froze and disk usage was at 100%. I had to force shut down and restart but same thing happened again.

I checked the SSD with HDTune and the results are shown in the screenshots.

I googled around and found out there's no such thing as bad sector for SSD?

What's actually happening to my SSD? Is there any other way to diagnose my SSD?

My external harddisk is starting to have bad sectors. When I wanted to backup one of the mkv file on the harddisk, it came out with some error which I think is most probably due to the bad sector.

I'm still able to play the mkv, just that it will stop at certain parts and I have to fast forward if I want to continue watching.

I tried Meteorite but when I drag the mkv to the program, nothing happened. Is there any other way to recover the video file?

Bad sector on External Harddisk

I scanned my WD My Book 640GB with HD Tune Pro and WD Diagnostic Tool and found out there's a few bad sectors on the harddisk. Tried to repair it with WD Diagnostic Tool but it came out with some error.

What should I do about it? Should I backup the harddisk and send it for warranty?

Anyone knows the number for the distributor for Kingston and Pendrive thumb drive? Is it possible to claim warranty without receipt? I've lost the receipt since the thumb drives are very old.

I don't really know how to describe this. Hope someone would understand. My graphic card is 8800GT.

There are weird symbols all over my screen when I boot the computer, and when I reach the desktop screen, there will be many lines across the screen. I could not change the resolution for my screen as well, when I right click on my desktop and click "Screen Resolution", the name of my monitor is not showing, the option to change resolution is also grayed out.

When I open up the nvidia control panel, most of the settings that were available is gone. I also could not use DirectX.

The second DVI port for my graphic card also cannot be used. However, when I use a DVI-VGA converter to try on another monitor (which only have VGA input), it's totally not working at all for both DVI port.

I suspect my graphic card is dying, but why is there still output from my graphic card? Could it be software, monitor or my motherboard problem?

Hope someone know how to fix my problem Thank you.

Edit: Which card would be a good replacement for my current 8800GT? Reso of my monitor is 1680*1050. If possible I would prefer a card which is the best bang for buck now and keep the budget as low as possible.

I'm planning to use the Wireless AV transmitter to split the display of Astro Byond, so that means my second display can only get SD video?

Any recommendation for TV that is best for viewing Astro in SD?

Plasma TV is better with Astro is it?

I got an offer for Panasonic 20V 50" for RM6999, it's the latest model is it? Is the price ok?

I also heard Toshiba ZV series is better for viewing SD quality video as it has some technology to sharpen the image?

So which TV is better? Or is there any other better TV?

What happened to my thumb drive?

Earlier today, I transferred some files to my Kingston 1GB and safely removed it. I then plugged it in to another computer, but there was no response. The LED on the thumb drive did not light up and Windows did not detect anything. I tried the thumb drive on another computer and different ports and it can't work as well.

Is my thumbdrive dead? Why did it malfunction all of a sudden?

Mobo Recommendation

Hello, I'm using Asus P5K PRO and Corsair VX550W.

When I tried to turn on my PC from sleep mode yesterday, the fan started running but the screen remain black. So, I pressed the reset button but a beep followed by 3 beep sound is produced. This occurs ocassionally but after after pressing the power button a few time, it will be ok.

But this time, after I unplug the power cord and put it back, my PC totally cannot be turned on at all. The LED light in the mobo is on when I connect the power cord but nothing happens when I press the power button.

Anyone knows what's the problem here?

EDIT: I tested my PSU and it's working. Just in case it's mobo problem, which mobo do you guys recommend to replace the current one while I send the spoiled one for warranty?

Hi all, I'm currently using Linksys WAG200G, planning to change to a Dual Band router sometime in the future.

But I need a WiFi adapter now, will be using it with a comp that downloads 24 hours.

I've never bought an adapter before, so I'm not sure the price range, just recommend me some reliable ones.
