My friend just reinstalled windows 7 on his laptop, a Compaq Presario CQ42 - 269TX because the clock keeps changing. He just bought the laptop about 5 months ago. The problem still persists after the reinstallation but the problem suddenly goes away. Now he keeps getting errors 0x8e and 0x50. It usually happens after exiting a game. I've ran memtest and the ram passed the test. Minidumps are attached.

Here's the log from BlueScreenView:

==================================================
Dump File : 100410-15771-01.dmp
Crash Time : 4/10/2010 12:28:50 AM
Bug Check String : KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Bug Check Code : 0x1000008e
Parameter 1 : 0xc0000005
Parameter 2 : 0x82cd0f21
Parameter 3 : 0x85743a94
Parameter 4 : 0x00000000
Caused By Driver : cdd.dll
Caused By Address : cdd.dll+72c9
File Description : Canonical Display Driver
Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
Company : Microsoft Corporation
File Version : 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
Processor : 32-bit
Computer Name :
Full Path : C:\Windows\Minidump\100410-15771-01.dmp
Processors Count : 4
Major Version : 15
Minor Version : 7600
==================================================

==================================================
Dump File : 100210-17175-01.dmp
Crash Time : 2/10/2010 8:39:02 PM
Bug Check String : PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Bug Check Code : 0x00000050
Parameter 1 : 0xfdf665dc
Parameter 2 : 0x00000000
Parameter 3 : 0x95f8b768
Parameter 4 : 0x00000000
Caused By Driver : ntkrnlpa.exe
Caused By Address : ntkrnlpa.exe+85903
File Description : NT Kernel &
my friend just gave me his old intel D102GGC2 board. so after i installed everything i found out that my old chasis uses a different power button connector. so cannot fit the newer board's front panel header. the standby LED is on but there's no way to turn on the mobo. i tried shorting the on/off pins but nothing happens. maybe i did it the wrong way. anyone can show me the right way?

Notebook thieves

I have a question about notebook thieves. How do they really work? I mean their modus operandi.

I heard that they have some kind of sensor to that can sense the presence of notebooks in a car.

Then they would go as far as to break car windows to get the notebook inside the car.

Is this for real? Because i've never heard of cases like this.

New Xbox 360

My 360 got the RRoD about a few weeks ago. So i thought about repairing (most probably send it to benji) or buying a new unit.

But i would like to know what should i do to keep my console from getting the RRoD as long as possible.

Should i apply new thermal paste or maybe mod the cooling system?

i used to put a fan behind the console hoping to keep it cool but it only survived for 15 months.

i mean just suggest some precautions so i could let my console live longer.
