Possible to upgrade iOS 4.2.1 to 5.0.1 on 3G?

Hi! I went through the Jailbreak, unlock threads on iOS 5.0.1 (Version 2 & 3) but couldn't find anything on how to upgrade from 4.2.1 to 5.0.1 or 4.3.5 on iPhone 3G (not 3GS). I have this iPhone 3G with Model MBxxxx, Serial Number "836" (That makes it 36th week of 2008, old bootrom I suppose?), Baseband 06.15.00 (ipad baseband, I guess I upgraded it last time when I went for 4.2.1). I've read about snowbreeze used to preserve baseband, create custom firmware etc but there's no mention about if this works on 3G. Windows 8.1 PC.

Is it possible to upgrade an iPhone 3G from firmware 4.2.1 to 5.0.1? If yes, shall I use snowbreeze for jailbreak? I have a broken home button issue here so I won't be able to put the phone in DFU mode manually. I'll have to rely on redsnow 9.15.xx and above versions to use the inbuilt DFU IPSW mode? I don't know if I'm going in the right direction. I want to preserve the baseband 06.15.00.

If it isn't possible to move to iOS 5.0.1, how do I upgrade to 4.3.5? Using redsnow or snowbreeze? Unlock using ultrasnow? Again, I want to preserve the baseband and I have a broken home button.

iPhone 3GS in DFU Mode! Help!

My friend recently received an iPhone 3GS with an international sim card and he accidentally updated it using iTunes. Now the iphone is in DFU mode. I don't have any clue as to which firmware version or baseband it has been updated. The itunes is up to date, version 10! What shall I do? I found the following threads but don't know if it will work as I don't know the firmware version or if the iphone is jailbroken/unlocked.

iphone to pc transfer

Hello,

I wanna transfer music & image files from iphone to itunes/pc. I had to format my system and reinstalled itunes. Now, can't sync or else will loose the data. I don't have any backup copy either. Can anyone share with me how to retrieve images and music files from iphone so that i can use them again. I tried everything i could google, namely, lenogo, tansee, xilisoft, iphone browser, iphone tunnel and now i'm running out of time. I gotta leave tomorrow. Anyone willing to share would be highly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Is it same as BSD Subystem? I can only see Open SSH Client in the All packages category. Where can I find BSD System? I'm asking this question coz I don't know if there's any difference between Unix subsystem and BSD subsystem. Thanks!

How to downgrade from 2.0.1 to 1.1.4?

Do I have to restore it again first using iTunes? I have iTunes 7.7 installed. Will it work?

Which software should be used? Winpwn version....?? or Ziphone version...?? Pls mention the versions.

I went through the guide to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4 but it is too complicated. Furthermore, I have to uninstall iTunes 7.7 and install iTunes 7.5 which I'm not ready to do.

Is there anyone who can tell me or give me some hints about how to downgrade?

Reasons for downgrading:

No sms forwarding support.
I can't seem to find so many applications for 2.0.1 which I installed on 1.1.4
No chinese language support.
Very few sources. No user-friendly controls.

I'm done with Firmware 2.0.1. Better stick with 1.1.4 for the time being.

I may be right in saying that Ziphone version 2.5 can be used to jailbreak and unlock firmware 1.1.4 but what I don't understand is how do I downgrade from firmware 2.0.1 to 1.1..4 first? Jailbreaking and unlocking will only be done after firmware 1.1.4 is restored, right?

iphone stuck at apple logo

I tried to reset/reboot it by pressing the sleep/wakeup key and home key together for 10seconds until the screen goes black and apple logo appears again but it doesn't boot until I see the springboard. What should I do?? URGENT HELP PLS!!! Everytime i try to reset, it gets stuck at apple logo.

I tried to connect to it using SSH and WinSCP and it is presently connected to the notebook.

Its restarting again and again and ends at apple logo. Please someone help me!!!

I want to install winterboard and several other applications which are available only for firmware 2.0 and above. I have a 1.1.4 iphone. How do I upgrade it to 2.0? What are the steps? Do I need to backup my iphone sms, contacts, photos etc.? How do I backup?

No sound in recorded video

I recorded a video using iPhoneVideoRecorder but when I playback, there's no sound. I tried to increase the audio settings too but still no changes in audio. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? The video is automatically encoded after I stop the recording. Its an iPhone 1.1.4 version.

iphone doesn't install packages

1. Ok. It all started when I was downloading NativeCn (chinese text language package) and it stopped suddenly. I tried again but a msg appeared "Package download failed". Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I tried to install other packages too but still unsuccessful. iPhone restart, refresh sources etc. troubleshooting steps doesn't help at all. Uninstalling and reinstalling source also doesn't work. What shall I do?

2. Does anyone know the location in the computer where the backup files of iphone are saved? I used iTunes to backup. I tried to search but couldn't find the backup files.

3. Does anyone know how to permanently disable EDGE from iphone? I was charged RM30 within 20mins of using "Maps" application. I had to get GPRS turned off from Maxis end. Is there any other alternative way so that I can still use GPRS for other applications?? Please suggest if any.

4. Does anyone know how to locate & use Hotlink's Easy Access application on iphone? I'm unable to find it. It may sound dumb but please help!!

Presently, I'm connected to Wireless router with streamyx broadband connection (1MB) & I can browse websites through Safari easily. 2G iPhone 1.1.4. Installer version is 3.11 and I don't have Cydia.

Ok, I took some photos on iphone and I would like to transfer them to my computer. I tried to get information but still no clue. When I click on My Computer => iPhone, the system hangs EVERYTIME. I tried many times. Any other suggestions?? Am I looking at the wrong end??

I don't understand why its not showing sync option in ringtones category. The same goes with music category too. Ringtones, music, podcasts etc. should be in tabular form which is not the case. Also, the playlists are in chinese by default. Can anyone help me out? I tried to reinstall itunes (latest version) but the problem still persists. What am I missing? What should I do? I tried to drag, drop etc. but no use.

transferred songs not found in iPhone

When I first transferred mp3 songs from itunes to iPhone, I found all of them in iPhone. But when I tried to transfer more songs in iPhone, I can only see the newly transferred songs and not the old ones. Does anyone know where exactly I should look for them? Am i missing something? Ya, the transfer was successful in all the cases.

iphone keypad isn't working

My iphone 1.1.4 UNLOCKED keypad stopped working since today morning. I can still receive calls but can't dial any nos. coz when i press the number key, the no. is not displayed. It doesn't show any message either like if it is locked or wat. Every other application is working fine. How do I fix this? I read about resetting iphone but i'm just afraid, it will kill my iphone Forever...... coz its unlocked. What should I do to get this keypad working again? Oh..I tried to restart it many times, still the same.

FAQs and troubleshooting tips on apple website and iphone userguide doesn't include this issue.

I'm just wondering if there's any website from where I can download english and chinese videos & mp3 songs for FREE for my iphone? I will convert them and synchronize to iphone using videora iphone converter. Presently, i only know about youtube.com and downloaded some videos but the problem is, the size of the iphone supported video files (after conversion) is too big. Even the original video file is 9.8MB and the converted file is 55MB. Can anyone suggest a better option? I would appreciate any suggestions.
