XPS M1530 users, eat your heart out!

You didn't get me wrong, it's 16-inches.. 1 - 6, sixteen inches of screen estate in 16:9 aspect, WUXGA+ 1920x1080, full 1080p HD sweetness dressed in a 15-inch XPS skin (probably a modified XPS M1530).

QUOTE(NotebookReview.com)

Today walking the show floor as many companies were still building their displays, we found a new concept notebook from Dell. This is a 16” Full HD notebook based on the M1530, with a stunning 1920x1080 resolution. While I wasn’t able to grab too much information from it, I do know that it has an Nvidia 8600m video card. I also managed to take a few screenshots before they realized what I was looking at and ushered me away from the display.

One interesting thing that a Dell rep mentioned to us was that the screen is made by a "new player" in the LCD market that they might be working with in the future. No names were given as to who this manufacturer was, but we'll try and track that information down in the rest of our time here in Vegas.

A shot of the screen, you can see an Nvidia 8600m graphics card is being used and the display resolution is a rather unusual (for a notebook) 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The concept 16-inch laptop from Dell looks a lot like the Dell XPS M1530 at first glance, but it really is a non-standard 16-inch laptop.

They just launched the concept model at the CES 2008, news fetched from notebookreview.com, head over there for a few more picts.

A few jiggle with certain sales rep however rings back unreliable answers regarding the true availability of the product. Concept? good. But concepts don't make any MONEY.

DELL Buying issues..

I'm trying to configure myself a new Dell Latitude D630 (non-ATG) laptop from Dell's Online store,

http://dellstore01.sg.dell.com/public/cata...659150653080774

But everytime I tried with my own customization, which IMO has no serious 'compatibility' issues, the online customizer will keep issuing me warnings about incompatibilities in my order. I've narrowed it down to the two following issues:

My configured specs:
Intel C2D T7500 (2.2GHz) + rm508
1GB (1x1GB) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (no additional charges)

Reasons given for the two 'incompatibilities'..
1. The LTO that you selected must be ordered with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 Processor. Please select the Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 Processor.
2. The Premium Label that you have selected must quote with a dual-channel memory. Please select a dual-channel(two piece) memory option.

Configuration 'without' incompatibilities error
Intel C2D T7250 (2.0GHz)
1GB (2x512MB) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM

It does have a Limited Time Offer floating around my order window with states "Free Upgrade to Intel Core2Duo T7250" but I'm seriously not interested in it.

I can't even select a higher-end processor other than the T7250 offered.

Regarding the RAM, can't I just order a single stick from them insteaed of two? Their price for a single stick of DDR2 RAM is almost twice the market price, I can live without the dual channel memory for the moment as I'm going to slot in another RAM after the purchace at a much cheaper price.

So is there anyway to get through my own configuration? Does phone order or speaking with a sales rep help or they're also using the same online application system that eveyone has access to?

Some questions on something a little off-topic

This may be a little off topic or may not be suitable to stay in this thread at all.. so moderators may move it if seem fit.

---

The problem I'm facing is with my school's WiFi service. They're using a couple of routers and a D-Link DSA-3100 Airspot Private/Public Gateway to control access to the Internet via WiFi.

The problem now is that somehow the technician managing the system has somehow set the user to be logged out after a certain period of time (around 10 minutes once), not sure if it was on purpose or by mistake. So we need to key in our username and password everytiime we got logged out and sometimes in the middle of loading the page.

We had informed the person in charge to fix this problem but seems like no action is taken at all.

Now I'm looking a solution to keep myself logged in at all times since it's a pain to keep the connection alive to finish a couple of downloads when i'm away..

Lost of choices.. please advise and help me decide

I'm thinking of getting either one of the speaker above.. but I hasn't personally, properly tested out these two speakers before (coz local shop doesn't have stock there).. so I'm looking into EXPERT opinions and suggestions on choosing one of these 'expensive' 2.1 sets..

from what I know, CS21 is more powerful in terms of RMS power rating.. while MX5021 is THX certified, but less powerful than CS21..

while come complained that MX5021 has uncontrolled high-range, can anyone verify that.. any way to rectify that?

and from teh (pardon me.. I mean the) reviews, it seems that these speakers have this "low hum" noise from the sub.. anyone noticed it? is it loud as I'm going to sleep with it once I own it..

Note: I'm not including the FX6021 because it's outta my budget... plus an unplesant experience happened while dealing with this speaker..

Please advise..

High-Speed Mobile Broadband

I'm getting wireless broadband/internet soon since applying for streamyx at my location is hard and troublesome.. just want to know how's the actual service coverage for the 3 main operators in Sarawak.. so any local users might give some insight?

My main location focus in between the Sibu and Bintulu division..

According to the operator sites..

-Bintulu-
Maxis - GPRS, EDGE
DiGi - GPRS only
Celcom - GPRS, 3G (some locals say it's in the town area only, haven't verify it yet, but celcom site says not yet..)

-Sibu-
Maxis - GPRS only
DiGi - GPRS only
Celcom - GPRS, 3G (Celcom 3G site says it's available by the end of 2006)

So I'm wondering if there's any actual 3G or EDGE services available in the Sibu division? Because I'm studying over there and I need a higher-speed internet access because the lack of phone lines at my area..

And can the claim of Celcom for providing 3G services to specific area by the end of 2006 be relied on?

How to configure DiGi GPRS..

I'm trying to test out the workability of my phone to connect to DiGi's GPRS services using my phone linked up to my laptop..

I'm using a Motorola V3i and I've got the basic things such as drivers, etc.. set up already.. the problem is configuring the phone and PC..

Since there was no specific profile to configure a V3i to work with a laptop, I just followed the instruction for V3x lisited there.. I remember I've done everything correctly as said by the instructions..

The problem is, my laptop managed to dial up a connection with my phone and it paused at "Registering your computer on the network" before the following error appeared:

Error 734: The PPP link control was terminated.

During the connection, the GPRS icon on my phone's screen says it's active.. just that I can't manage to get pass the error..

I've tried my SIM card with a Nokia 6510 via its IR modem and it worked, but a 'lil bit slow (must be something wrong with the imitation casing blocking the IR signals).. so that rules out the problem with DiGi..

Could someone please help me solve this?

Vista to use USB flash drive for (virtual) memory

Interestingly, I've found this news regarding the next upcoming OS from Microsoft..

QUOTE

Windows Vista will let users add more memory by plugging in USB-based flash drives, a Microsoft executive said this week at the company's Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles.

Jim Alchin, a group vice president for Windows, said that the flash drive option would be accessed by the new Superfetch technology, which was designed to speed up application start-up times.

Superfetch would monitor the system, then pre-load .dll files of the most-used applications during the OS boot process. When the user actually launches the application, it loads considerably faster, since some of it is already in memory.

"Superfetch works great if you have a reasonable amount of memory, and it works fantastic if you have boatloads of memory," Alchin said at PDC.

To that end, Superfetch would be able to call on memory it finds in connected flash drives, the gum-sized USB devices designed to store files for easy transport between PCs.

Superfetch would add the flash memory it finds in the USB drive to Vista's virtual memory, said Alchin. That virtual memory in turn is used to hold the pre-loaded.dll files.

Data stored in the drive's flash memory would be encrypted, said Alchin, and removing the drive while the OS is running would not destabilise Vista.

Windows Vista, while in its first round of beta testing, was not expected to debut until late 2006. The Superfetch technology is included in beta 1, but the USB option would not appear until a later version of the preview OS.

http://www.itnews.com.au/newsstory.aspx?CIaNID=20100

Interesting.. but I have doubts that these USB drives may be slower than ordinary hard disks... any comments?
