Relocating at 40, will you do it?

I'm currently working as a senior IT engineer in one MNC in Penang earning about 9k a month. The job itself is rather comfy where my main job is only providing support and some ad hoc projects. Recently due to the current economic downturn my company started down sizing and cutting quite a number of benefits for this year. I got a number of colleagues left the company due to this as well. This trend cause me to feel insecure with my current job however it seems like the trend is impacting most MNC in Penang as well.
Lately while browsing through Jobstreet, I come into quite a number of openings which matches my profile, but they're mostly in SG. This got me having the urge to try it out.
However I have some big considerations which is, I'm not young anymore and my family. My wife has a day time job & my kiddo is in primary 2.
If you ask me what are my main purpose of changing job, well the most important to me is job security & also the salary.

What will you guys do if you're me? Let everything behind and jump over? Continue on with current job & find somewhere better locally?
How's the condition in Sg? Are they badly impacted by the recession as well? Heard last time mass retrenchment happen in Sg's tech sector.

How do I add additional accessories to EX5?

I'm planning to install a set of spot light on my old EX5 at the fork.
I don't have much knowledge on how the wiring works, but the spot light is using 12v so can I pull a direct wire to the bike's battery?
If no can I share the connection with the head lamp? Or is there any way of doing it?

Alternatives to slow copper-fiber unifi?

I'm staying in an old apartment complex which do not have any fiber cable in our apartment's architecture.
There is UNIFI available in the apartment complex, however the setup I believe is still riding on the old copper cable since there's no fiber cable being pulled from my unit & the modem is still connecting to the phone port.
UNIFI however stated due to this old architecture the speed can only reach up to 30Mbps. I feel that even with 30Mbps the speed is same as my previous 8Mbps streamyx during peak hour.
Is there any other options I can look for to get a faster internet connection?

Can a construction project goes on up to 10pm?

I'm having a dilemma lately ever since a high rise construction started smack behind my apartment unit.
The blardy construction starts early morning at 8am till 10pm at night! Not only that I need to bear with the noisy construction, I have to bear with the smelly diesel smoke discharge by the construction machinery.

I've raise complains to the local municipal council twice and all they mention is they will send a warning letter to developer. Nothing changes still, construction still ongoing till 10pm. The sound is so bad that every weekend I had to stay at my mum's place so my 4yo can have her evening nap. Can I make a police report? Will they entertain me? Any other option I can look for?

Sometimes I really wonder why the hell does the gov simply approve any construction without considering it's surrounding neighborhood. The construction took place in a densely populated neighborhood & a primary sch just beside the site. I wonder how the kids gonna continue studying coming January when sch reopens. Btw, I'm from Penang island.

Hi all, I'm planning to purchase my first property which is a subsale unit worth 400k.
I know there's some sort of incentive offered by the gov for first time house buyers but I'm not really clear about it.
I also planned to take money from my EPF's 2nd acc to put a a downpayment for the house, must I first pay the downpayment before applying for the withdrawal?
Another thing is, my wife planned to withdraw her epf as well to be use for renovating the house, can she do that? She has an existing property but never took her epf out before.
Appreciate to get some input on the above.

Worth upgrading to SSD?

Hi all, just want to ask your opinion regarding the above.
I have a very old Acer Aspire 4741G laptop which are still working fine so far.

Lately it's showing some sluggishness & I'm planning to reformat it to bring it up to speed again. While doing that I though of upgrading my current WD Black HDD to a Sandisk SSD Plus since SSD price nowadays is rather cheap.
The SSD will be solely for my windows & application installation. I'll then get a HDD Caddy to convert my DVDROM to a secondary HDD.

Total cost will be less than RM200 is it worth to go for it? Not sure if older generation lappy can support SSD or not although logically they can since the connector is just SATA connection.

Changing field at 30+yo

Hi all, need some advice from everyone here.
I'm a 32 yo guy who's working in IT support & Sys admin field all this while. Throughout the years this field of job is getting more and more boring with endless calls of support and on calls.
I'm about the become a father soon so I was thinking of moving to a job which have more stable working hours. I've been searching around for jobs which have some managerial positions such as team lead or assistant manager role, however due to my lacking of experience ( most of the time I'm a solo contributor ) in managing people I wasn't short listed.
So now I'm thinking of trying my luck in a totally new field which is doing technical presales job. Is it too late for me to do this shift?
