[wts] Dell XPS 13 (2016 6th Gen)

Brought extra units from the US. RM3999 each, specs refer below.
I've been eyeing the XPS 13 for quite some time but the pricing in Malaysia has been ridiculously expensive.
(Dell MY is retailing RM5,999 for the same i5 + 8GB specs and RM4,999 for i5 + 4GB)
Finally decided to get my hands on the unit from the US and decided to bring over an extra to cover my costs.

The XPS13 has been consistently hailed as the best Windows Ultra-portable for 2nd year straight.
Blowing the macbook air out of the water with its 11" ultra small footprint but full fledged Core-i level of performance.
2016 Models has been improved with the updated Skylake-U processors, inclusion of Thunderbolt3 / USB Type C and bigger battery
This model is compatible with Dell TB15 thunderbolt 3 docking station (USB 3.0, GBE LAN, 4k 60Hz HDMI/DP, battery charging) all through one single port.
Moreover, 2016 Skylake based XPS 13 is expected to work with Razer Core since Dell has confirmed the thunderbolt port natively supports Intel TB3 eGPU standard, essentially turning this into a gaming machine

Reviews:
http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/dell-xps-13
http://www.digitaltrends.com/laptop-review...13-2015-review/
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/01/del...tle-bit-better/
http://www.alphr.com/dell/dell-xps-13

Dell XPS 13
- 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-6200U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.80 GHz)
- Windows 10 Home 64bit English
- 8GB LPDDR3 1866MHz
- 128GB Solid State Drive
- Intel® HD Graphics 520
- 13.3 inch FHD AG (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge display, Silver

I'm only getting this specific configuration for the reason:
1) excellent price to performance ratio
2) best battery life to performance ratio:
- 4k touch screen takes a 30% battery life hit, and the glass reflection is another cons. (battery life reduced from ~9 hours to 5 hours on normal usage with 4k touch screen)
- i3 & 4GB ram models are under-powered
- i7 units now comes with Iris 540 (i7 6560 instead of previous 6500) which take another 10%-15% toll on battery life
3) 1080p screen are perfect tradeoff between windows scaling and resolution for 13". And this resolution ensures compatibility with my corporate linux VM.
4) I am also adding the option to help switching the hardware to Dell Developer's Edition (Project Sputnik). For the developers out there, the developer editions is a purpose built hardware specs to run Ubuntu 14.04, fully supported by Dell. The original XPS 13 hardware consist of Broadcom networking adaptor which has poor support on linux. The developer edition uses Intel AC 8260 NGFF card which is superior and has full linux supports. All developer edition also uses Samsung SM951 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD that reads/writes up to 1800MBps/600MBps. You can also swap using off the shelf 950 Pro SSD which has similar specification but the power consumption is almost 10x higher than SM951 which is an OEM-only model.
www.dell.com/developers

[attachmentid=6732916]
[attachmentid=6732963]

Item(s):
*Item will only arrive mid June*
*Only few units available*
*Only reservation for now, first come first serve, no payment needed until the units arrives here*
*Please read through properly about warranty and know/understand what you are getting*

Dell XPS 13
- 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-6200U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.80 GHz)
- Windows 10 Home 64bit English
- 8GB LPDDR3 1866MHz
- 128GB Solid State Drive
- Intel® HD Graphics 520
- 13.3 inch FHD AG (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge display, Silver

Package includes:
- Dell XPS 13
- Dell 45watt AC Adaptor (with Malaysian 3pin plug)

Price:
- RM4099 (price increase due to exchange rate)

Warranty:
- 1 year US limited warranty + RM0
- 1 Year International Warranty +RM 999
- 2 year International Warranty + RM 1299
- 3 years International Warranty + RM 1599
- 4 years International Warranty + RM 1899

Dealing method:
- COD JB
- Courier service

Location of seller:
- Johor Bahru

Contact method/details:
- PM for contact details

Age of item:
Brand New

Additional Add-on:
- Dell 45watt charger : RM89
- Dell Premier Sleeve for XPS 13: RM179
- Dell Power companion 12000mAH : RM549
- Dell Power companion 18000mAH : RM599
- Swap to 128GB NVMe PCIe SSD (SAMSUNG SM951) : RM499
- Swap to Developer Edition hardware (Intel AC8260 + Ubuntu Linux 14.04 + SM951 128GB SSD) : RM799

---

Item(s) conditions:
Brand New

A dispute with photo studio

Here's a dispute i had with this photo studio and i have questions for professionals here.

So my family paid this photo studio a package price to take a simple photoshoot of 3 photos.
After the photoshoot, i requested to get the softcopy of the photos and the studio charge me RM100 for 20 softcopy of photos of my choice.

Back at home, i switch on my computer and found the photos given to me was all resized to a pitiful 643x427.
I thought it was a mistake and called them. The studio insists it was the RIGHT size.

I went on rage.

They insist they promised me softcopy that allows printing up to 5R and this resolution is enough to do so. I said 5R @ 300 dpi requires resolution at 2000 pixel range. not this tiny resolution which couldn't even fit my cheapest netbook screen.
I requested for full resolution photo and they say they CANNOT give it to me as it's their copyright. I paid them money to shoot me and they have the copyright which render me couldn't even allowed to get my own full size photo?
They then insist this is the practice of ALL studio, seriously?

They should have told me all this beforehand. I'm fine if they want to scale the photo down from full size RAW. But at lower resolution than VGA? REALLY?
They then insist this is what normal customer WANTED.

wtf is with this world?

so,
1) I pay but they own the copyright that i'm not even legally allowed to buy my own photo if they refused?
2) 643 x 427 for 5R is good enough?
3) This is the practice of all studio?

Nano-Technology / Quantum science

Before we start, the purpose of me starting this thread is to get some idea on my upcoming final year project that i might carry on as research for my master. Since this subject is highly technical, i think it suits this subforum more than Education subforum. If mod thinks otherwise, please move it.

QUOTE

Nanotechnology, shortened to "nanotech", is the study of the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally nanotechnology deals with structures of the size 100 nanometers or smaller, and involves developing materials or devices within that size.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanotechnology

My field of study is electronics engineering, major in nano-technology. Keyword : "electronics" and "nanotechnology". I am about to propose a title for my FYP in next few weeks and as a student in local university, i faces problem that bugs almost everyone else that study in local U :

1) limited fund
2) limited equipment
3) limited time
4) limited resources

The thing i have in mind now includes :
1) Single electron transistor
2) QD LED/Laser that can be made into flexible display
3) ZnO thin-film fabrication

As i mention with the limitation, i need something that is possible to be achieve, possible to have initial results within 6 months of work and does not require a top end lab from DARPA to work things out. For example, I've proposed a FED display project before but rejected for the reason that it is impossible to fabricate a whole bunch of perfectly lined up CNT in our lab.

Now, keep your suggestions/discussion flowing. Might it be ideas on simple computer simulation of quantum science stuff, or physical fabrication project.

clutch and engine problem

i drive a two year old manual kancil 850.

about a month ago i have these serious problem about my clutch and engine :

Clutch :
when driving slowly for less than 20kmh, for example inside a car park or when i'm stuck in a traffic jam where i frequently shift between 1st and 2nd gear with a lots of stop and go, my gear will stuck. I cant seemed to be able to disengage the gear even when the clutch is fully pressed. worse case is during traffic jam, when i'm fully stopped and fully pressed the clutch, the car will move if i don't step on my brake (kind of like AT car where if you don't press the brake the car will move forward slowly) That means the gear is not fully disengaged at all !

engine :
the engine idle speed of my kancil was originally about 1.5k. but recently it miraculously dropped to about 700 to 800rpm and would die easily. Early in the morning once i start engine and if i step on the pedal, the RPM would drop instead of rise and then the engine died. i need to step it real slow for a few seconds then it will be normal.

thing about these problem is....they do not happens every time...they happens occasionally. when i first developed this problem, i sent my car to bridgestone auto care. they say my car is PERFECTLY fine and i end up paying only inspection charge.

worst situation happened last night when i was in jalan alor traffic jamming when going up hill. when i'm stuck in the middle of the hill, if i use brake, and then move to accelerator and release clutch to go up hill, the engine would die immediately as the RPM is too low when idle and my car slides backward. Fine, i don't use brake but play with the clutch to stay still at the hill, in less than 30 seconds, a terrible smell filled up my car. it smells like my clutch is burning !

so i send to perodua this afternoon, tell them my situation and after hours of inspection, they have a result : everything is PERFECTLY FINE, the only solution they give is to wait until the whole clutch system is gone then change a new one.

i'm now so headache as this car is tough like hell to drive in a traffic jam, yet even the official workshop cant tell what's wrong. i serious need some help and advise here.

[WT Offer] Soldering and Electronics Design

Good day,

First of all,the reason i open the thread in this section but not in services offer is because i am not making any profit out of this and i hope it could become a discussion thread where people with similar hobby can gather and experts would comment and guides through it. And also it seems audiophile has the most need for such services. Even so, my services is not limited to audio products only. If you have any electronics DIY project in mind, but don't have the necessary resources, i am here to offer you my help. Since there's already many experts doing professional cabling services with very reasonable prices, i will not be doing cables.

I am here to offer soldering or any component design services for people who have zero idea of soldering. Since i am providing the service purely based on interests and gaining experience, i will not be making any profit from this services. You only pay for the components used and my travelling expenses overhead if i have to outsource the component for you.

Please take note though :
1) i am not an expert in soldering
2) i have zero idea where is the cheapest place to outsource components (all i know is jalan pasar ,puchong and farnell network)
3) i only have very basic equipments

so please bear with me if the work done is not of top notch quality as you can expect from experts like brother PCWork or empire23.

so, to begin the things with, here are the following procedure.

1) Let me know what you want
2) i'll quote you the component prices/design (within one week or two), or on the other hand, you can let me know where to source the component for the cheapest price.
3) work will begin after you agreed on the prices/design (time frame depends on the scale of the project)
4) COD/postage after the product is done.

* if you already have a particular design/schematics/component in hand, we can skip to part 3 directly.

Comments and critics are extremely welcomed

[WTA] Question abt Kancil tyres

my 2006 Kancil has been running for almost 55k mileage. Last night my dad called, and said that he saw my tires already worn out when i back to hometown last week and asked me to change it. Since i has zero knowledge about tyre, here's a few question :

1) How many brands of tyre out there are available for the tiny 12inch kancil tyres?

2) which brand of 12inch kancil tyre do you people prefer and what's the ups and downs about each? (price/comfort/noise/grip etc)
