A government minister has blamed Indonesia's recent string of natural disasters on people's immorality.

Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring said that there were many television programmes that destroyed morals.

Therefore, the minister said, natural disasters would continue to occur.

His comments came as he addressed a prayer meeting on Friday in Padang, Sumatra, which was hit by a powerful earthquake in late September.

He also hit out at rising decadence - proven, he said, by the availability of Indonesia-made pornographic DVDs in local markets - and called for tougher laws.

According to the Jakarta Globe, his comments sparked an angry reaction on the internet, particularly among those who followed him on social networking site Twitter.

Why focus on public immorality when there was so much within the government, one respondent reportedly asked.

More than 1,000 people died in the Padang earthquake, which toppled hundreds of buildings in and around the city.

Padang lies to the south of Aceh province, which was devastated in the December 2004 Asian tsunami.

Indonesia lies across a series of geological fault-lines and is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions

Love Machine Elvis needs new birds after wearing out harem of hens

A cockerel with an eye for the ladies is looking for a new hen harem after his bird died of exhaustion due to his constant mating demands.

Elvis lived up to one of his namesake's hits The Love Machine after his hen Berol had to be put to sleep because she was left All Shook Up by his demands.

The strutting bird used to have a flock of four hens vying for his attention but after three died he was left with only Berol to keep his libido satisfied.

Now Elvis's owner Katherine Cooke is looking for a new home and harem for the one-year-old cockerel.

Mrs Cooke, 32, works as a nurse at Buckley House veterinary surgery in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.

She said: 'Elvis is a young, fit cockerel and he wants what all cockerels want, a new harem - a new group of ladies.

'He very handsome and is a stereotypical cockerel like the one off the Kellogg's boxes.

'He is quite the bachelor and like most cockerels is quite a horny little thing.

'He has had a troubled life.

'He used to live with four lady friends but unfortunately rats got in to their coop one night and there was a mass murder and three of them died.

'Berol was certainly then the centre of his attention and perhaps she became a little bit sex-pested."

Elvis is currently kept in a coop at a horse's stables owned by Mrs Cooke in nearby Ravenshead.

She said: 'Elvis is very, very noisy. I want to try and find a new home but it's quite difficult because I don't want him to get an Asbo.'

Pet Extreme Love Treatment

Our family loved cats, especially my dad. Our current furball adik is a fat black and white male tabby, conveniently named after the famous cookie OREO. But I like to call him as the Cat because it ticks my dad off hehehe

So here is the story:

I was watching TV one day when the Cat came suddenly and started meow-ing at me like crazy. Knowing that he just had his meals and the front door is already wide open for his convenience, I suspected that the Cat is just being mengada-ngada. So I just gave him the cold shoulder.

Then I guess he could sensed that I was ignoring him so he went away and guess what, he returned back to the living room with my dad in tow!

Honestly, until to this day, I could not believed what happened next.

My dad actually kicked me out from the sofa I was sitting because he told me that the Cat wanted to sleep there!!!

I was like...

Kesian kan aku? My dad loved the Cat more than me! (well, he said that the Cat tak menjawab balik bila kena marah haha!)
