Will you go for money or dream/career growth?

I've been working in my current company (sdn bhd) for 7 years and became one of the share holders, holding some percentage of company shares. I joined the company as a programmer 7 years ago, then promoted to team lead.

Currently my job fully focus on customer support, such as reply emails, pick up calls, and giving user trainings. This has been going on for more than 4 years and I had told my boss that the support work has taken up all my time (including weekend sometimes) as more and more customers are coming in. But due to cost constraint, my boss only hires a few fresh grads/ trainees to take up the software development tasks, which means that I still continue to support customer.

Recently, I got offered a new job by a company as an Application Consultant. This is my dream job and I find it a good exposure for myself to brush up my soft skills as well as to explore new domain knowledge.

I had tendered my resignation letter and I'm currently serving my notice period. My bosses (other share holders) are convincing me to stay and they kept on reminding me that it is a waste to come so far and surrender the shares (company policy) which values at quite a big amount of money as of now, and will eventually grow in years to come. They asked me to reconsider.

My question is, if you were me, will you choose money (shares) or dream/career growth?

[WTA] Freelance Programmer

Hi all,

I am a freelance programmer.

I did some freelance jobs for several companies before with only verbal agreement on the delivery date and the payment method.

But recently I received an offer from a company to develop a website for them. The company would like me to sign an agreement with them.

I would like to ask fellow freelance programmers out there, do you sign any agreement with your client when you accept their project? If yes, what are the main point in an agreement that I need to look into or careful of?

This is the first time a client ever requested me to sign an agreement and then bring the agreement for stamping.

I'm not sure if this is the usual practice between freelancers and their client. Please enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Refinance home loan within lockin period

Hi all, I'm planning to refinance my home loan recently.

I had been servicing my current home loan for about 2 years (out of 30 years tenure), with the interest rate of BLR - 0.8%.

It is still in the lockin period of 60 months, meaning that I will be charged with penalty of 3% out of the total loan amount if I refinance now.

From my surveys recently, I can get around BLR - 1.80% for Non Zero Entry Cost package for loan amount of RM110K (my outstanding loan amount).

Do you think it is a wise move to refinance now? Or should I wait until the lockin period is over? Please advice. Thanks in advance!
