About practising engineering

Hello guys and girls out there. I am a student currently pursuing Mechanical Engineering. What I don't really understand/know about practising engineering is that - Is BEM and/or IEM recognition important? What do they mean by they are recognised by IET, IMechE, ICE and all those bodies giving out these recognition to the courses that a particular uni offers?

And, how does these bodies go about rating them and determining the suitability of these unis recognised by them?

So basically, I want to know what's important in order to practice engineering here. I hope those engineering graduates that have graduated and/or currently working (whatever profession that they may be holding, I don't mind as long as they're working) come here and share with all of us who are unsure about matter relating to this.

Thanks alot first.

I was having my physics exam 3 days ago...so scary because i lazy to read the book..if i fail i mati. Then during exam, i saw a lembaga with its head bald and with thick moustache + beard (FYI, the hairs are all white). Then it came into me...After that without realising, I could answer Physics questions with ease, I wrote down answers without even a single thought, explanations, calculations and answers came to my head.

So, today, my teacher gave me A1, score was 99 because there were some theory she couldn't comprehend. So I became the top scorer for Physics.

Kthxbye.

US government is now putting their budgets to research on this promising project. Not only using Salamander's theory, also using Stem Cell theory. My question is...will this be feasible in our time to come? Since human genome project is 90% complete. In other words, once we've understood every human genes we can also regrow back lost parts and or smaller important human organs.

No need to wait for donors...

IELTS/TOEFL or this?

As per title. I went to the website CEFL they say they're recognized by US Unis, UK Unis and even Aus Unis. They even mentioned that it's cert has no limits on expiry where as IELTS and TOEFL has 2 years of validity.

I want to ask experts here. Is it true regarding what have they mentioned

Space Travel.

As per title, if the whole world's resources, manpower and technology merged together to form what is know as UED(Or whatever fictional Earth Government u can think of) to create Warships, or more efficient Space Shuttle as big as Battle Cruisers you see on Starwars any fictional Space War.

We could solve alot of problems on earth. Now, we are running short on lands to live, lack of resources to cope with the ever-increasing demand. So, we travel to space and look for a habitable planet, we colonise the planet and send more humans from earth to stay there. Then we can now have our fair shares of resources.

Problem is, building a space shuttle is costly and deemed useless by a lot of people. The Space Shuttle we have now is traveling at a very very slow speed and consumes huge amount of fuel just to overcome gravitational attraction and drag by the action of Atmosphere on the Space shuttle.

This is the main reason why Earth's distance to most of the planets on the Solar System is large. Just like previous times where ancient civilization had difficulty to reach to the far reaches of lands.

So, what do u think the human civilization is going to look like when space travel is imminent? Or is it even possible to think of it? Discuss.

Who wants to sleep with McDonald?

QUOTE

McDonald’s in bed? It’s too easy not to
By LEE JOO-HEE

SEOUL: As the clock ticks closer to midnight, the stomach starts to make growling sounds. But the refrigerator is near empty, and cans in the pantry all require actual cooking.

Other than the reluctant option of just going to sleep, the next best and perhaps the most obvious solution is in the kitchen drawer.

Stacks of colourful leaflets meet the eye. And now starts the fulfilling moment of deciding on the menu.

From fried chicken to Chinese, the winner tonight is McDonald’s. It is a guilty pleasure but perhaps less so than having a whole fried chicken or pizza.

After a quick phone call and some 30 minutes, the doorbell rings and within minutes the oh-so-delicious Big Mac and famous French fries are gobbled up.

Like many other metropolitan cities around the world, it may be hard to find something that cannot be delivered to your door here in Seoul.

While they range from ordinary parcels to laundry, it is the food delivery, originally confined to Korean-Chinese restaurants just a couple of decades ago, which has evolved immensely.

Not to mention diverse menus, further spoiling the stay-at-home customers is that many of these services are offered 24-7. Indeed, with just one phone call, anything seems possible.

“An advanced delivery culture could derive from a combination of factors such as a rising number of one-person household and better economic capabilities.

“Fundamentally, it is because there is the demand for it,” said consumer economics professor Shin Do-cheol of Seoul’s Sookmyung University.

Park Jeong-hyun, a 36-year-old husband and a designer, is what you may call an avid food delivery consumer, who orders in at least three times a week.

“Because both my wife and I work, it is usually quite burdensome to buy all the ingredients and cook every dinner. So we often opt to order in, sometimes just basic baekban (rice, jjigae and side dishes) or pizza, depending on our mood,” Park said. He orders from a superfluous amount of coupons and leaflets that are usually left at his doorstep each day.

Things that can be delivered are boundless. Beyond the traditional delivery menus of Chinese, pizza and fried chicken, these days such menus as rolls, pasta, chili soup, and even ddeokbokgi (rice cake pan-fried in red chili sauce) can be delivered to your door. Due to a rise in recognition of healthy products, many smaller shops also offer special items that are made from organic food products or those that do not fry, such as oven-baked chicken.

Not only that, small ally shops and chain supermarkets also bring to houses groceries purchased on the spot or through the Internet.

More stores are also even welcoming orders for just one person, following the rise in the number of one-person household over the years.

(According to the National Statistical Office, the number of one-person household surged to approximately 3.42 million this year, compared to 1.64 million in 1995.) - The Korea Herald

KETCHUP FOR HAMBURGER

A-Levels Result

Now, I don't understand about the marking system provided by the Edexcel Qualification. Now, the paper on the front page of the Question paper, let's say Chemistry Unit 1, it's total mark is 75. Alright it's 75. Then today, when I got back my results, the percentage calculation became

**/90 x 100%= your marks. So see clearly the denomenator became 90! What happened? I thought it was supposed to be divided by 75 as was mentioned?

By the way, I got 3 Bs for Chemistry(1,2 and 3).
