Maxis WBB vs Mobile Internet

hi all,

i subscribed to mobile internet unlimited quota and realized that it has somewhat different ping quality than WBB that i was using all the while in the last few months.

for example, ping to Singapore, i get average of 70~90ms for WBB, and with mobile internet? 400+ ms and sometimes more. then, for Hong Kong, i also get 450ms~500+ms for mobile internet, and WBB i get 150ms+-. all tested with same modem, same location.

strangely, for US servers, both are getting 300ms+ though.

i can imagine since both are different package, but it seems that the WBB still has advantage over mobile internet in terms of ping quality? probably different package/user will have different cell tower to cater the bandwidth. i thought i can use the unlimited mobile internet as broadband but with such ping i doubt i can play online games that required low ping...

or anyway i can overcome this? anyone have explanations to tell?

thanks in advance!

EDIT: also worth mentioning that WBB seems to be a little unstable connection quality albeit low ping, while mobile internet has more consistent connection.

Loose orientation lock switch?

i just found out about the orientation lock switch or the mute switch, is having a bit of play when you press the switch into it so that actually leaving a slight gap between the body frame and the switch and very easy to have tiny objects to sneak in i'm supposed.

i did check out a few units in the shop where i bought mine from and noticed all the units i tested all doing the same thing - the switch can be pressed into the body a little and you can definitely can see a gap opening.

just wondering if the one you guys have doing the same thing? i googled about it and found out the same problem stated in it this thread. it seems that there ARE units out the with very firm switch (or the owner didnt quite catch whats the problem). to me it does seems to posses a small risk mentioned above but if most units are acting that way i guess it's normal.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1364403

iPad 3rd gen QC problem(s)

i've read a lot about the QC problem of the latest iPad 3rd gen, not just display panel or wifi or battery charge issue, there're even assembly blemishes like tiny nicks and dings.

i found a tiny nick on one of the black plastic button, yeah very minor and since everything else is perfect, i don't see the slightest need to worry about but for a brand spanking new gadget it annoyed me a little. buttons are bound to receive wear and tear over time so i'm not overly worried, and there are more iPads out there with worse blemishes.

i wonder if anyone of you have a story about the blemishes to tell? 100% perfect iPad owners are welcomed to brag.

WARNING: do not inspect your iPad if you're a perfectionist and very nitpicking! there might be chance that you'll find tiny blemishes and get annoyed the hell out of it.

hi all.

i wonder where i can buy those? you know, the PVC kind of floor covering pieces came in large pieces which you can use to cover the floor if want to save money by not applying wood/tile/marble flooring...

searching for those in KL, not sure which area/shipping complex got sell.

Maxis Broadband vs Maxis Mobile Internet

besides the obvious, i applied maxis mobile internet (that came together with your maxis voice plan) and signed up maxis broadband.

i find that it's hard to get a connection to the 3G network with the ZTE modem, everytime i plug it into the usb drive and fire up the connection manager, very often it says not connected.

i'll have to manually set the network to "automatic", and it'll connect in EDGE. THEN, i set it to UMTS/HSPA only, it'll connect to UMTS. and guess what, connection barely moves.

i thought it was the modem that's inferior, because when i tried my phone's mobile internet and it connect instantly and connection is pretty fast. however, i try to troubleshoot the problem and want to know if it really is the modem that's inferior, so i take out the sim from my phone and insert it into the ZTE modem. guess what, it connect instantly to the UMTS/HSPA too, and i get about 700kbps download which is plenty and surf like streamyx 1Mbit package.

soooo....it seems that maxis did set the allowance differently for mobile internet user as well as broadband user. yes, mobile internet user have to pay more, RM88 for 3GB (and no capping, it'll just continue suck your account until RM250 max), while RM68 3GB with no additional fees, just speed capping.

i'm sticking to mobile internet since i seldom use 3G, i'd rather pay more for stable and reliable connection (still not THAT reliable), 3GB is more than enough for me (and i can cancel anytime, or re-apply anytime).

how about you?

Yamaha LL16 Acoustic Guitar

i was surprised by this acoustic guitar model from yamaha, saw it in a showroom. i was immediately shocked by the sound it produced - very rich and clear, and very projecting! the sound is like coming out from the instrument and so free!

then i just give it a test, although i'm no guitarist (you know, 6 chords + kapok up and down lol), i can tell this instrument is very very responsive, and doing different tone colour on this guitar is like a dream, so easy!

and the price tag? rm3600++, before discount. i can't imagine anyone can get better guitar than this, this is by far the best guitar i've ever heard. i really wonder if one really need to spend rm10k for guitar brands like taylor?

sorry if i sound like i know everything, but seriously, i want to know more about guitars that why i asked.

Streamyx and AIG Insurance

ok, i received a call from streamyx and saying that i can apply for personal insurance for very low price per month and the offer was quite good for a layman (i never apply before).

but i also need to give out my credit card number because the rep asked right on the spot. suddenly i realize why should i provide my card number without even having a clear idea of what it is all about, at least some black and white paper or website? so i said i forgot the number during telling the number halfway and the card is not with me (which is true also). some more the phone number is "private no" so i can't even confirm who's calling. but the rep do have my correct address registered under streamyx account.

i was told that it's only available for customers who subsribed streamyx for more than a year. anyone receive similar call?

Anywhere selling StudioLogic Fatar keyboards?

hi all,

i'm looking for a replacement for my retired old roland keyboard. anyone know anywhere selling this brand "SudioLogic Fatar" keybaords? they make only MIDI controllers (means no sound but only keys and etc) but they're cheap yet very good quality controllers, most expensive is still under RM3k and comparable to yamaha or similar quality brands.

if i'm going to order it through online, the shipping alone will cost me a bomb. hopefully there's dealer or shop that bring in this brand.

PS: here's the website if anyone interested to have a look. http://www.studiologic.net/index.html

Speaker on iPhone 3G

Hi all!

I've read that iPhone has some of the quietest speaker on phones, which is the only thing that keep me from spending a fortune for this phone...

But is that really THAT bad? I mean, not loud enough?

Oh does it have vibration mode?

Sorry for the dumb question, I've read the FAQ but I wished to have opinions in details.

there's been some threads discussed about music schools and fees, and some career discussions going on in some irrelevant threads. so i'm suggesting a thread dedicated to music education and career. forumers can share their experiences, as well as seeking for helps like choosing colleges/uni, career etc etc. this thread is going to be huge and with a lot of database about music schools, fees, colleges, universities, and all sorts of careers like teacher, performer, music engineer, composer, arranger etc.

any volunteer going to start this thread? i'm lazy to update the first post and post informations given by forumers.

___________________________________________________________________________

OK, the discussion is on, guess i have to be the TS and manage this post. please tell me if there's anything i should manage this thread.

as a general rules of this thread, before you post anything destructive and bashing, studying the word "respect".
