PETALING JAYA: More than a dozen environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) are demanding answers from the Selangor government and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) over the sale and rezoning of two land parcels originally owned by the Malaysian Zoological Society (MZS), the operator of Zoo Negara.

The groups allege that the 21.43ha of land — once designated as green open space for recreational use — was quietly sold and reclassified as commercial land under the newly gazetted Ampang Jaya Local Plan, without proper publicity or public participation as required by law.

MACC widens Dr Mahathir asset probe to Switzerland after UK investigations

CYBERJAYA, Sept 24 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed that its probe into the assets of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been extended to Switzerland, following earlier investigations in the United Kingdom (UK).

Its Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, said the commission was now working with both countries to gather further information.

“We are also looking at other countries such as Switzerland. (At present) we are still collaborating with UK authorities, among them the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre (IACCC), which is assisting us should there be any assets involving Dr Mahathir, but there are no further developments yet,” he said.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng says the residents have been staying there since 1969 under a temporary occupation licence issued by DBKL which expired in 1996.

No houses, shops or factories in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan, Kepong, will be demolished tomorrow despite a court order requiring the residents, traders and factory operators to vacate.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the decision was reached after he held discussions with several government agencies.

“However, we will wait and see if any legal action will be taken by the tenants involved,” he said in a statement.

A young Malaysian couple riding home after a short trip to Cameron Highlands died after their motorcycle skidded and crashed on a rainy Thursday (Aug 7).

Chen Baojun (transliteration), 19, and his girlfriend Zhong Shanen, 16, were travelling down the winding mountain road when Chen lost control of the bike while going round a bend, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Their friends, who were riding another bike behind, crashed into a ditch after swerving to avoid them.

Bila tarikh melampau ini akan dikuatkuasakan belum lagi diumumkan oleh Trump. Tetapi ia akan mendatangkan impak serta merta ke atas industri komputer, peranti pintar, elektronik, automotif, barangan dapur dan banyak lagi yang memerlukan cip untuk berfungsi.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 24): Malaysia’s trade surplus would remain subdued in the coming months amid weakening exports while imports stay strong from demand for capital goods, the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) said.
After a rush to beat tariffs, strength of export to the US is fading while external demand from key Asian partners is weakening, ANZ said in a note. Shipments of manufactured goods and commodity products are declining, a trend corroborated by broader manufacturing indicators, the house said.
“However, the strength of capital goods imports, underpinned by structural infrastructure investments, suggests continued resilience in public sector-driven domestic demand,” ANZ said. “As a result, the trade surplus is likely to remain subdued in the near term.”

Malaysia has maintained an unbroken trade surplus for nearly three decades, mostly thanks to its sprawling export-oriented factories churning out electrical and electronics goods.
However, the trade surplus narrowed to RM766.3 million in May, its second lowest since 1997, as exports dipped for the first time this year. Gross imports meanwhile climbed amid a surge in inbound capital goods.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 6): The Malaysian government has ordered the country’s telecommunications firms to hand over detailed records of phone calls and internet usage, South China Morning Post reported on Friday.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) demanded detailed call and internet logs for the first three months of this year, apparently for the government’s "Mobile Phone Data" project, the news site reported, citing two unidentified industry people.
Non-compliance would be considered an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act, which carries a penalty of a RM20,000 fine or six months' jail, according to the news site, which noted that it had seen the letter sent to telcos in April.
