Pen drive issue - Files turning to shortcuts

One of my friends borrowed my pen drive and since then if I add any file it turns into a 1Kb shortcut.

I can retrieve the lost/hidden files by typing in command prompt 'attrib -h -r -s /s /d i:\*.*' (i is affected drive name).

But the problem does not go away. I tried deleting all the shortcuts and one suspicious looking file 'Servieca.vbs'
This solves nothing because any new files added will just turn into shortcuts.

I even formatted the pen drive, the problem still persists. Run several malware/virus scans but none can fix the problem.

The only way to use the pen drive now is to put all files in folders. Any files out in the open just turn into shortcuts.

Any ideas how to fix this and use my usb pen drive like normal ?

CPU Usage Spikes

In task manager my cpu usage keeps going up and down. Meaning it can be at 5-10% then all of a sudden it shoots up to 40-60%.
Such that my CPU Usage History is like that of a heart rate monitor. So many spikes.

This happens when I'm not doing anything.

Hard Drive Problem: HELP

I'm having trouble watching video from one of my hard drives (XP). At first I thought it was a codec problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled the codecs but that never worked.
Then I tried watching video on the other hard drive and no problem there.

I confirmed that its a hard drive problem when I tried to copy one of the files from the problematic hard drive, it showed 30mins left where it normally takes 1-2mins.

I checked to see if the channel was in PIO mode but all are in DMA.

Any way around this ?

I've been planning on getting new GPU since my current GPU is overheating. Originally I wanted to get 9600GT but then I saw the price of HD 4850 and guys on this forum were saying good things about it so I thought I might go for that instead.

But with my current CPU will surely bottleneck the GPU, right ?

What do you think of upgrading to AMD Phenom II X3 720 ? I can get the card now and maybe in a month or so I can get the processor.

Will it be good with the HD 4850 and will I be able to play most good games at good settings ?

Just visited the store with intention of buying the 9600GT but I found the 9800GT was more in price by about RM100 only.

What I'd like to know is if there is a big difference between the two ? Would it be worth paying the extra amount for the 9800GT

Sudden FPS drop (gaming)

Recently I've been having FPS issues while gaming. What happens is I'm playing at 50-60 fps then all of a sudden, it drops to 8-10 fps then after a little while (<1 min) it goes back up to the 50-60 average and then drops again after a short while.

This happens in all games after only a few minutes of starting to play.
I've tried resetting my card in the slot, cleaning dust from the inside of my PC as well as trying different graphics drivers.

My first thought of course is overheating. Is that the only thing that could be causing this ?

2nd HDD not being recognized

I recently reinstalled my OS and now my 2nd HDD is not being recognized. It's showing up as Dynamic under file management. I can see it in the BIOS and it was working perfectly yesterday just before the reformat. The HDD is working. What I don't understand is why the PC is not recognizing it.

I backed up most of my important files on it. Is there a work around ?

Of late my GPU has really been burning up. I've cleared my PC of dust several times, rearranged the wires for better airflow but its still overheating. Goes up to 90C underload at which point some games start to display artifacts or lag.

Recently I've been having artifacts after a few minutes of gaming. All of a sudden the image starts to get distorted and the game hangs then the only way forward is to ALT+Tab.
I installed Speedfan to check my temps and my idle GPU temp is about 63-65C (GPU-Z also shows about the same). Under load it goes to about 80C.
When the artifacts appear its near 90C. I opened the case and cleaned out any dust but it didn't change much (didn't have much dust anyway). Within a few minutes of gaming the artifacts popped up.
I also reverted back to my old drivers thinking it might be a problem with the new graphics drivers but that didn't work either.

Here are my specs in case anyone might need them...

Video card - 9600GT 512MB
CPU - C2D E6300@1.86GHz
m/board - MSI 965 Neo
Ram - 4GB
Power supply - Gigabyte Superb 550W PSU

Laptop Resolution problem

I purchased a new laptop today (HP 540 (Core 2 Duo T5670 Processor 1.8GHz, 1GB RAM)) and installed the OS (Vista) but now there's a problem with the resolution.
The laptop is a widescreen model but the only resolutions available are 800x600 and 1024x768. There are black vertical side bars on both sides of the monitor cutting off part of the screen so I'm only using a small portion of the monitor. The mouse pointer cannot cross over to the black borders of course.

Help ? The native resolution is 1280x800.

PC wont boot, no beeps, no display

Yesterday I was testing my Old RAM and it worked ok, then I removed it and put back my new RAM but the PC refused to boot. I tried the old RAM again and same thing. No boot.

What happens is, all the LEDs come on and I can hear the CPU fans spinning but the PC seems rather silent. There are no beeps at startup and there is no signal to the monitor. Also how I know the PC isn't booting, the keyboard doesn't display the num lock/caps lock lights. The mouse and speakers are on though. I've tried making sure the RAM is properly seated and the GPU but nothing works.

Any ideas as to what could be the problem ? Dead motherboard maybe ?

I've been having bsod issues while gaming. I've checked nearly everything I can and everything seems fine. The one thing I'm uncertain about is the motherboard.
If it comes to that I was wondering whether its anything complex. How do I got about selecting a motherboard that is compatible with my current system hardware.

Any recommendations, regardless of the budget ?

Upgrading CPU/processor

I currently have a mere Intel Core 2 D @ 1.86GHz CPU and it's quite annoying because I can barely play most of the latest games on anything but low settings.

What I wanted to ask is, if I wanted to upgrade my Processor, do I also need to change my mobo or anything else. I don't have the money to buy a new PC so I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to increase my PC's performance without having to buy a whole new system when I've spent so much upgrading the current one.

What is causing my BSOD

Recently my PC has been crashing while I'm gaming and not necessarily when I play for a long time. Sometimes it happens 5 mins after I started playing.

Steam connection problem

I restarted my PC and when I tried to launch Steam, I get a Connection Error message (image shown below)

Is there a way around this as now cannot play my beloved TF2

Deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file didn't help either. I was happily playing just before restarting and my internet connection is fine (I'm able to browse and e.t.c)
