You literally can't make this up.

burn the mother house

Indebted Malaysian man tells loan sharks to burn mum’s house, kidnap her grandchild

The woman said her gambling-addicted son asked the lenders to scare her into paying his debts after she cut all ties with him

A woman said she borrowed money from relatives and friends to settle her son’s 30,000 ringgit debt. Photo: AFP
The Star

Published: 12:56pm, 1 May 2025

First they splashed her house in Malaysia with red paint. Now, loan sharks are threatening to burn the house of a 58-year-old woman and kidnap her grandchild because her debtor son has asked them to do so. The woman, known only as Teh, said her 31-year-old son told the loan sharks to scare her into paying his debts. She said her son has an online gambling habit and started borrowing money from an ah long (illegal moneylender). In July last year, she was shocked to find her house splashed with red paint.

“At that time, my son, who works as a delivery man in Singapore, pleaded with me for help. “I borrowed money from relatives and friends to settle his 30,000 ringgit (US$6,952) debt. He promised to repay me 1,000 ringgit a month, but I have not seen a single sen,” she said on Wednesday.

The big scare came last month when Teh, a mother of four, received a call from a stranger.

The man threatened to set fire to her house and kidnap her granddaughter. On April 21, her home was once again splashed with red paint, she said, adding that both she and her daughter also received threatening text messages demanding payment. “It was then that my son confessed he had borrowed more money from an ah long he contacted through social media in March,” she said.

“I begged him to come home to sort things out, but he refused, claiming he was busy with work. I told him I would cut all ties with him.” Desperate, Teh also sought help from Johor Bersatu public complaints bureau chief Lim Thow Siang. “The harassment is still going on. My son apparently told them that since we had severed ties, they could do as they pleased.

“He allegedly asked them to set fire to my house to force me into paying his debt,” Teh said. Lim said Teh has lodged two police reports over the red paint attacks. “In my 15 years of social work, I have never encountered a case where a son tells loan sharks to burn down his mother’s house.

“I have contacted the loan sharks directly to urge them to stop harassing Teh and her family,” Lim said. Lim also advised the public to steer away from online gambling and to avoid loan sharks, as their behaviour often leads to damaging consequences.
UPDATE:M’sian child psychiatrist jailed (grooming)

Amirul Arif Yunos pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual crimes against his then 15-year-old patient.

PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian child psychiatrist practising in Ireland was yesterday sentenced to eight-and-a-half years’ imprisonment by the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin for grooming and sexually abusing a teenage girl.

Amirul Arif Yunos, 38, pleaded guilty to six counts of engaging in a sexual act with a child, one count of sexually exploiting a child, and one of meeting a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

According to the Irish Times, Amirul was working with Ireland’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services centre in Clonskeagh, Dublin, at the time the offences were committed.

It was reported that the girl’s parents had engaged Amirul on an ad hoc basis as she was struggling with her mental health.

The girl was 15 when Amirul committed most of the offences against her, and 16 when the final incident occurred in September last year.

The court was told that the abuse began with inappropriate touching before escalating to other sexual acts. The offences took place at several locations, including in a car, at his home, in her home, and at his workplace.

In a victim impact statement, read by prosecuting counsel Derek Cooney, the victim said the abuse had left her with “painful and grave trauma” that had impacted her both emotionally and psychologically.

Judge Orla Crowe initially sentenced Amirul to 12 years’ jail but ordered that the term be calculated from the date of arrest, reducing the total sentence to eight and a half years.

In arriving at the 12-year sentence earlier, Crowe said that aggravating factors included the grooming behaviour, the accused’s professional and social standing, the impact on the victim, and the escalating nature of the offences.

The mitigating factors included an early guilty plea, lack of previous convictions, and Amirul’s expression of remorse, she added.

link

UPDATE: Teen sexually abused by Malaysian psychiatrist develops severe depression

PETALING JAYA: The teenager who was groomed and sexually abused by a Malaysian child psychiatrist practising in Ireland has developed severe depression and has attempted suicide thrice.

According to the victim’s mother, she suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety as well as ongoing self-harming and suicidal ideation.

“All this because of him,” the Irish Independent reported the mother as saying.

The victim, now 17, also developed an eating disorder and has “lost a lot of weight”.

“Our daughter doesn’t want to have a shape in case it attracts men,” the mother said.

The victim has also developed insomnia as well, with the mother saying she looks like a “walking corpse” because of the lack of food and sleep.

“Before this, she was a really bright and high-achieving girl. She was happy, loving and caring. He took all of that away,” she said.

Last week, it was reported that Amirul Arif Yunos had pleaded guilty to six counts of engaging in a sexual act with a child, one count of sexually exploiting a child, and one of meeting a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

The 38-year-old doctor was working with Ireland’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services centre in Clonskeagh, Dublin, at the time the offences were committed.

It was reported that the girl’s parents had engaged Amirul on an ad hoc basis as she was struggling with her mental health.

The girl was 15 when Amirul committed most of the offences against her, and 16 when the final incident occurred in September last year.

The Irish Independent also reported that the victim attempted suicide three times last week “over the stress of her abuser’s criminal case finally coming to an end”.

€2,000 in compensation

According to the paper, Amirul had offered his victim €2,000 (about RM9,300) in compensation before his court appearance.

However, the offer was seen as “the greatest insult” by her parents and was subsequently rejected.

The mother also said she was disgusted by Yunos’s family and others who had vouched for his good character.

“It’s scary to think of how much tolerance these people have towards such sadistic crimes against a child,” she said.

LINK

A 33-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail for secretly filming his fiancée's sister showering. He recorded nine videos over several occasions by placing his phone in the bathroom. His fiancée discovered the videos when she unlocked his phone, which was left in the restroom. She then informed her sister, and they reported the matter to the police. The man pled guilty to charges of insulting modesty, with another charge of possessing voyeuristic material considered during sentencing.

For more details, you can read the full article here

Now you can show solidarity by playing games that include lgbtq+

It is not playing as the character necessarily

Marketing as usual.

Dear /k, as per topic, can anyone recommend anywhere I should go to look?
Wanna try it first but I don't want to spend a lot of money in case I end up not liking it. So dun want to go to bar to drink. In aeon it's about rm15 per bottle. I wonder if selling cheaper at Korean marts. Then if I do end up liking, I know where can buy more for cheap. Haha.
I heard that mont kiara and Ampang can find but want to know the specific place.
Thanks!

Lunch suggestion for visiting friends from abroad

Hi. I have a group of friends visiting from Switzerland and might want to bring them out for lunch tomorrow. They're a family of 4 with another one tagging along and stay at kl Sentral. Any suggestions for anything good and reasonably priced? I wanted to take them to brickfields for Indian but not sure which one. Open to other cuisines as well because they already had roti canai today. Thanks

Hi sifus,

really want to be cost effective as parts are not cheap these days.

I already have case, psu, hard disk, monitor, mouse, etc.

Just need
1. cpu
2. mobo
3. ram
4. gpu

can get recommendation on what i should get? right now seems like intel still exp as usual. so maybe stick with amd.

i used to have
x6 1055t
8gig ddr2
hd7870

thought i was done with gaming. didn't even finish gta v, just got started far cry 4 but because had some personal issue had to sell off rig. now i feel i wanna replay back gta v and looking forward to fallout 4. someone told me to just buy ps4, save money. but i love building rigs. just now my brother ask to open his pc coz had some issue. love getting into it and tinkering. kinda like old hobby cannot die. plus i like the satisfaction and praise when the rig i built can support latest game nicely even though actually so limited time to play. usually someone else in family will use it. that's why don't want to spend more than 2k

thanks and really appreciate.

WTA why my sharp lcd TV not working

Sharp LCD TV model LC-32LE240M. Normally when plugged in to power, the red Led will light up and I can switch on. Now, the light doesn't even come on. Weird, coz all other devices working from the same socket and even tried others but no difference. Any idea what common problems for LCD TV and any suggestions on what I can do. Device is out of warranty. Age is 3 years. Bummer...
