Plot to bomb entertainment centres

Court rejects suggestion to send teenager to the Henry Gurney School as punishment for this sort of offence must serve as a lesson to the accused and society.

KUALA LUMPUR: A teen boy who plotted to blow up entertainment centres around the capital was today sentenced to 12 years’ jail by the High Court here yesterday, after he was found guilty of promoting acts of terrorism in the country.

Judicial Commissioner Nordin Hassan ordered the 17-year-old boy to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on April 25 last year.

In his judgement, Nordin said the court was satisfied with the behaviour report issued by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), mitigation by the defence and the prosecution’s submission against the teenager, who was also planning to participate in an experiment to test explosive materials in Gunung Nuang.

“It is indisputable that the act committed by the teenager was a serious offence as it involved public safety and could have a big impact on the country.

“The court opines that such an act should be curbed because it has put us in a situation that we have been disturbed and attacked by the ideology of radical parties, that is not in accordance with the rule of law,” Nordin said adding that the court had taken into account public interests before making its decision.

Nordin said, JKM’s suggestion to send the teenager to the Henry Gurney school for three years was not suitable as the court must determine the appropriate punishment for the offence so that it would serve as a lesson to the accused and society.

He said according to Section 91(1)(h) of the Child Act 2001, if a child is found guilty, he or she is punishable with imprisonment and subject to Section 96(2) of the same act, namely the child should be isolated or separated from adult offenders.

According to the charge sheet, the teenager together with five others, were accused of having conspired to promote acts of terrorism in Malaysia and to create chaos by bombing entertainment centres in the capital, which was an offence under Section 130G of the Penal Code.

They were alleged to have committed the offence at No. 2, Lot 3917, Kampung Bistari, Sungai Michu, Batu 13, Hulu Langat, Selangor, between 7pm on April 24 and 1am the following day.

The charge under Section 120B(1) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and a fine upon conviction.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin requested the court to impose an appropriate punishment because the offence was a serious crime and as a lesson to the public.

“Although the teenager’s act had not caused loss of life, but if left unchecked or no arrests were made, the offence would have a major impact on the country because of his intention to blow up several places in Kuala Lumpur,” Raja Zaizul Faridah said.

Lawyer Nik Zarith Nik Moustpha, who represented the teenager, said the suggestion from JKM that the accused be sent to the Henry Gurney school was appropriate because the seventh of 10 siblings would have a brighter future there.

“My client is still young. In that school, he will have the opportunities to learn skills and obtain a certificate that can be used after he serves his time in detention,” said Nik Zarith.

On May 12, fertiliser traders and siblings Mohd Anwar Azmi, 34, and Mohd Nurakmal Azmi, 31, and two of their accomplices, drink seller Izwan Shameer Suzaimi, 26, and tyre shop worker Muhammad Luqman Hakim Abdul Aziz, 23, were sentenced to 20 years in jail after they were found guilty of the same charge, namely, promoting acts of terrorism in the country, in April last year.

Another accomplice, Mohd Hafifi Tarmizi, 26, who worked as a storekeeper, was jailed for eight years by the same court on Nov 16 last year, after pleading guilty to the same charge.

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...-12-years-jail/

Family Insist On Observing Son Make Love

Singaporean social media has been captivated by an unusual story concerning a family living in Woodlands New Town. A photo was posted by a member of the family earlier this week, and it has since gone viral, receiving thousands of comments from members of the public. The image depicts a unexpected scene: a male and a female lie in bed, in the middle of intercourse, while members of their family watch on. The intimate moment was captured by the man’s uncle, who revealed it was a family tradition that has been passed down through generations.

“While most people may consider it odd, for our family there is nothing more proud than celebrating a son, brother or nephew having sex for the first time,” wrote the uncle, in a post accompanying the explicit photo. “We see it as the last step on the long journey to adulthood, and it’s also a special chance to witness the moment that a new life is formed.” The uncle explained that he’d also had his family present to witness his first intercourse. “I felt less nervous having my family there to accompany me, and also give me guidance on how to proceed. At first I had trouble entering my girlfriend, but my mother suggested I take things more slowly and relax, and I was able to eventually slip it in.” The photograph also captures the man’s mother and sister, who were sitting on the edge of the bed to provide tips and encouragement. “I snapped the photo right at the moment before he came, and it was truly a beautiful scene.”

Feedback on social media has been divided over the family’s unusual tradition, with some Singaporean netizens labelling it as unnatural and obscene. “It’s quite disgusting that such a private act must be witnessed by the man’s who family,” wrote one commenter. “Sex is something that should be behind closed doors, without your parents and siblings observing.” Meanwhile, some users did have more positive thoughts on the practice. “I think it’s actually quite charming that the family supports their children so much during a pivotal moment in their development. It can’t hurt to have some extra advice when things are hard.”

In other Singapore-related news, a local man on a holiday in Hong Kong has received a lifetime ban from a popular Lan Kwai Fong nightlife venue. According to reports by HK media outlets, the Singaporean man was caught engaging in intercourse on the dance floor.

sos

pic in link, don't want permaban

University cafeteria serves 'cika coop, fisan cip'

KUALA LUMPUR: An image of a food menu purported to be from a local Malaysian university cafeteria is making its rounds on social media, and along with it, ridicule from netizens.

The menu claiming to serve ‘bestan food’ (Western Food, presumably) listed items in English, but spelt in Bahasa Malaysia, phonetically no less. Some of the items were; cika coop (chicken chop), fisan cips (fish and chips), lem coop (lamb chop), sedbij (sandwich), fenfarais (French fries) and burger sepesal (burger special). (The translation in parentheses are the writer’s best guess for the items listed and it could very well be something else).

The image was first sighted by NST on social media forum Reddit, uploaded by user ‘eccentricjack,’ who claims that it was from a local university. To this, one user, ‘hytag’ said, “I hope you're only paying them (the university) a visit. God help you if you choose to study there." User ‘Felinomany’ was being more forgiving than the rest, and said, “I go to stalls and restaurants for food, not for the literary quality of the menu.

So this wouldn't bother me.” This is not the first time a menu has gained infamy among netizens for its bad English. Last year a menu from a formal dinner function in parliament featured “scissors salad” (caesar salad), which was ridiculed by everyone, including Youth and Sports minister, Khairy Jamaluddin. Khairy, in reponse to the menu had tweeted, “Couldn’t resist. Hidop scissors salad!” along with a picture of lettuce leaves cut in shapes of scissors.

Despite the gaffes that are often highlighted in the media and by netizens, Malaysia ranks highly in terms of English proficiency. In the EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) 2015, Malaysia ranks second in Asia, only behind Singapore and at an impressive 14th out of 70 countries worldwide, only behind Scandinavian and Western European countries.

http://www.nst.com.my/news/2016/05/146773/...-and-fisan-cips

UTHM plane kept at bus parking lot, audit reveals

A local public university had purchased an aircraft in 2011 but faced budget constraints to build a proper hangar, an audit found.

The Auditor-General’s Report 2015 stated that Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) had awarded Global Aerospace Sdn Bhd with a RM915,335 contract to supply a Lear Jet 24 series serviceable aircraft, for use by students from its Aeronautical Engineering faculty.

“An audit visit on Sept 9 and Oct 20 last year found that the aircraft was parked under improper conditions and did not meet safety requirements. A bus parking lot was modified to become a hangar to park the aircraft.

“Based on its original plans, the aircraft was supposed to be parked at a location in Tanjung Laboh, with a runway and a proper hangar,” the report said.

The plans, however, never took off due to budgetary constraints.

The report further raised concerns that the current makeshift hangar could impact the teaching and learning process.

In its response, UTHM said the cabinet had in 2013 approved plans to build a permanent hangar but so far there has been no budget allocated for the project.

Separately, the audit also found that UTHM had in April 2013 appointed Kosmo Setegas Sdn Bhd as the contractor to build a staff training and students activity centre in Tanjung Laboh, at a cost of RM11.84 million.

The project was supposed to start on June 1, 2013, and the completion deadline was set for Nov 22, 2014.

As of the audit conducted on Oct 21 last year, it was found that the project was only 82.7 percent completed with total payments made amounting to RM6.71 million.

It was further stated that the contractor had so far requested three extensions to the original deadline.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/342207#ixzz496B3l4h6
Thai peddlers making big bucks selling liquid sex

MALACCA: Aphrodisiac liquid for women is widely available here through itinerant peddlers from Thailand.

The stimulant is sold in ampoules at RM30 each and those picking up a pair could bargain for a discount.

The Star trailed a young peddler from Songkla, Thailand, promoting rattan and medical products as he made the rounds at stalls and restaurants here yesterday.

He was also seen offering the vials to students.

Identifying himself as Ayob, the man said he was 26 and willing to be interviewed if the vials were bought from him.

Ayob said the stimulant was made from various herbs with minimal drugs that would trigger sexual urges and orgasms in women when mixed into a drink.

According to him, the ampoules were trafficked in from the Sungai Golok area on the Kelantan-Thailand border.

“The shallow water of the river (a result of the dry spell) has made it easy for smugglers.

“We have been selling the stuff here for the last two months, but not openly,” he added quickly.

“Some of my customers warned me that the Malacca police chief is very strict and can easily get information so I am taking a big risk.”

Ayob said he could only smuggle a few ampoules into Malacca each time.

“Here, if you want, take it fast as I can’t sell it openly. I have to return to Thailand and will be only back next week,” he said, adding that the item was highly popular among tourists.

On the efficacy of the “sexual stimulant”, Ayob claimed that the effects would kick in almost immediately.

“Just add three or four drops (to a drink) and you will see the results in a few minutes ... ‘they’ will be chasing you around.”

He also claimed that tourists from neighbouring countries had placed advance orders for the ampoules.

“We enjoy good business here ... better than in Kuala Lumpur ... as the stimulant is also popular with youngsters,” he added.

Malacca Action Group for Parents in Education (Magpie) chairman Mak Chee Kin said he was shocked and concerned about students misusing the liquid, which was cheap and easily available.

“Most sex stimulant drugs are substandard and might endanger users’ health,” he said.

However, Mak was confident that the Malacca police would be able to stop the sale of the prohibited items.

Magpie would campaign against the open sale of the stimulant to youngsters and students, he added.

Malacca police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Ramli Din urged those with information to contact the police.

“I will see that action is taken against those dealing with banned items,” he said.

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2016...-sex-stimulant/

Why is ‘tongkat ali’ haven not protected?

GEORGE TOWN: Former “Alcatraz” and tongkat ali haven Pulau Jerejak must be gazetted as a national park, Penang Opposition leader Jahara Hamid said today.

She said plans to gazette the 295ha island into a protected park were approved in the state Legislative Assembly in 2007.

“After the DAP-led government took over in 2008, it has not been approved till today.

“This is an insult to this august house. It has been eight years and we are still waiting,” Jahara told reporters at the assembly today.

According to Jahara, the state executive council had approved more than 80% of the former penal colony and leper asylum as a permanent forest reserve on April 18, 2007.

(The remaining unlisted 20 % includes a shipyard, remnants of a leper asylum, a prison and a resort.)

She then referred to a state assembly Hansard record showing that the house had approved a bill to turn Pulau Jerejak into a forest reserve.

The island straddles the South Channel of the Malacca Strait, on the east cost of Penang Island.

Besides Jerejak, Bukit Panchor in Nibong Tebal, with its rare trees, was also bestowed protected status.

Pulau Betong Assemblyman Muhammad Farid Saad questioned if there were “other” plans for Jerejak, following the sale of state shares in the island’s only resort.

He said there was talk about expanding the resort beyond its present boundaries.

“Perhaps by not gazetting the island, they can extend the area beyond the Jerejak Spa and Resort?

“The state government must answer this.”

Jahara said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had replied to her question on the status of the resort’s ownership at the last assembly in November 2015.

“He (Lim) had written to me saying that shares held by the Penang Development Corporation (state government development agency) in the resort had been sold to Uda Holdings Berhad.

“If you want to sell the resort, it is okay. But if you are planning to expand beyond that, then it is going to be a problem.”

The Penang Government owns 295ha of 359ha land on Pulau Jerejak.

Of the remaining 64ha, 32.5ha was sold to Tropical Island Resort, a company jointly owned by UDA and PDC, to develop it into an ecological tourism project.

Steam Summer Sale

The word on the street, and by street I very much mean Reddit, is that the 2016 edition of the Steam Summer Sale will begin on June 23 and run until July 4.

That word comes from an unknown developer who seems to have little interest in the finer points of confidentiality, who posted an image with the info. Oddly enough, the message is in english, but the dates themselves are in Russian, suggesting that the leak either originated there, or is fake.

Obviously this is all entirely unofficial and unverified, so take it for what it's worth, but also bear in mind that basically the same thing happened last year—the Steam Summer Sale dates were leaked onto Russian social network VK, by the same guy (Vyacheslav “MrFreemanBBQ” Konchits) who posted this year's dates—and proved out to be accurate. I've reached out to Valve for confirmation of the dates, and I'll let you know if I get anything back.

Thanks, Polygon.

http://www.pcgamer.com/steam-summer-sale-dates-have-leaked/

http://imgur.com/x4f1Bex

Man repeatedly kicks dog until it vomits blood

PETALING JAYA: A post about an abused Doberman in Puchong that was tortured and battered to death by its owner is making the rounds on social media and has outraged online animal lovers, who are aghast at the degree of torture the animal endured before succumbing to its injuries.

The post first appeared on Selangor SPCA’s website wall on May 11. The user who posted it, who chose to remain anonymous, said she had tried on two occasions to contact an animal NGO in Selangor to rescue the Doberman as its owner was constantly beating up the dog.

She claimed the NGO however never acted on her complaint despite giving their assurances that they would.

In the latest episode of torture, the owner had punished the dog for barking by shortening its leash and forcing it to stand for one week . The witness also stated that there were water and food bowls there but suspects the dogs was not feed as he resorted to eating plastic bags.

However on the morning of May 11, the neighbour woke up to find that the dog had vomited blood and succumbed to its injuries after being repeatedly kicked and was flung to one end of the porch due to the impact of the kicking.

Netizens, outraged at the incident, have taken it upon themselves to file formal complains with the Department of Veterinary Services and have even made police reports in the hope that this Doberman will get the justice it deserves.

Founder of another NGO, Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better, Wani Muthiah, when contacted by FMT said, “What has happened (to the dog) is reflective of the lack of empathy for animals, especially dogs. It is utterly outrageous and unacceptable for someone to beat to death a pet that should have been much loved and cherished.

“It is time the relevant authorities come down hard on animal abusers and perhaps consider setting-up a registry of sorts to blacklist and prohibit those who have a history of animal abuse from ever owning a pet.”

FMT was also made to understand that the owner of the Doberman has two other dogs, both Chow Chows, who he allegedly abuses as well.

For members of the public who witness cases of animal abuse, or knows of such cases and wish to lodge a complaint, they are advised to email DVS Putrajaya at pro@dvs.gov.my; or DVS Selangor at subramanian@dvs.gov.my.

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...blood-and-dies/
