PC Cannot shutdown

Hi,

I am running the latest version of Windows 10.

Since I installed Asus Xonar U7 mkII, I cannot shutdown my PC the usual way. It will turn itself back on after a few seconds. I am not sure why this happens. I have yet to try unplugging the sound card. But wondering if anyone experienced this before and how did you fix it?

Thanks.

Corrupted out projector display

Hello,

So this just happened earlier today.

I will be using a Lenovo Y580 for an event. This laptop will be used for all the power point and multimedia presentations.

The problem is, the display seems to be corrupted when I tried to play videos using Media player classic. I am not sure how to describe it. But when I put the video into a power point presentation, it projected normally.

I played around with the display settings and set the projector to be an extension of my desktop. The desktop wallpaper displays normally. But when I set it to duplicate my main laptop display, the corruption comes back. And with fullscreen powerpoint presentation, the corruption goes away.

I am so sorry I can't put my sentence in a proper way to describe the event. But I hope those who have experienced this will help.

Thanks!

[Solved] Performance problem on cold start

Hi all,

I have a weird problem with my PC.

If I turn on my PC after leaving it for quite sometime e.g go for work, when I play games, my framerate really drops. In DOTA2 for example, though the system can easily go over 60fps, it will drop to 4x fps and sometimes 3x fps when things get busy.

The weird part is, when I restart my PC, all the problem seems to go away completely. This happens to other games as well.

I am not sure what is the cause of the problem. I tried updating AMD's driver and the problem still there. Though this is not really a big issue since a simple restart does fix it, I would like to know if there is any fix for this.

My system spec is as below:

i5 4670
8gb Ram
Radeon 7850 2gb OC sapphire
Gigabyte H87-D3H mobo

Thanks for any advice.

BF4 vs COD Ghost vs Titanfall

Hi all,

First of all, pardon me if I posted this in the wrong section.

Most of you should've known that there are three upcoming FPS games in the next few months. Namely Battlefield 4, Titanfall and COD Ghost.

My question to you guys is, if you had to pick one, what would be your choice? I personally prefer the COD franchise but I am open to other options. Here I listed some good points from each game just from youtube videos.

Battlefield 4
Great graphics
Should have better Multiplayer mode than COD
Based on modern day war

COD Ghost
Easier to play since I am familiar with the franchise
Should have good storyline
Questionable MP - youtube video didn't show much
Based on modern day war

Titanfall
IINM its exclusively a MP game
Coming from COD developers, MP mode is still questionable
Future setting - with Mechs!
From youtube video, feels like COD - easier for me to settle in

These are just my opinions. Let's hear your opinion and hope no bashing of devs and fanboyism.

Upgrading a 4 year old PC

Hi all,

Continuing my lust for a new PC after having bought a new GC(you can read my other thread), which is a Radeon 7850 2gb OC.

Currently, I am on E8400, 4gb ram system.

I am currently lost in the hardware sections of pc. Would you guys suggest a good upgrade with the best value?

I am thinking of getting an i5 (ivybridge). Which model? You tell me.

As for motherboard, I would be looking for something not so extreme. I doubt I will be overclocking or crossfire the system.

I guess value RAM is already good. Thinking of getting 8gb ram for the new system.

I will only be needing a CPU, Mobo and ram. And hard disk if there is a significant performance gain.

Budget would be RM1000 but I am flexible on this. I am particularly lost in the motherboard department.

I am open for any suggestions.

Thanks.

Hi all sifus,

I am currently using a 4 year old PC. Here are the specs:

Intel E8400
4gb DDR2
Radeon 4870

This is a very old PC I know. I am thinking of upgrading the graphics card alone.

My concern is the bottleneck issue due to the RAM and the CPU...all other parts are ok...

SO my question is, what graphic card can I get that won't be bottlenecked by the cpu and the ram?

PSU should be no problem, its a corsair 850W PSU.

Thanks for your advice.

Are these original/fake?

Hi FnF sifoos,

I need your help to identify these rims. Are they the original from Japan? I've searched online and sources suggested to take a look at the JWL and VIA stamps. Both were present on the wheels.

As for the centre cap, I knew that the ori Enkei RPF1 doesn't come with any, so as for these rims, they might get the cap from somewhere else and just put it there.

I tried lifting them up and they weigh close to the RPF1.

But the catch was, the price. RM1700. This is also possible if the so called 'Japan rims' if they are not forged wheels. Correct me if I am wrong.

So, what else can I do to determine the authenticity of the rim? There was also Japan stamped inside the wheels.

Thanks.

Laptop with Good display

Hi all,

I've posted this question before in but only managed to get very few replies. So I though a dedicated thread should get me more info.

Anyways my question is, which laptop brand has the best display let's say for RM2.5k budget? I went to LYP for a brief visit. But most of the models were not switched on and the salesman refused to switch it on. It was disappointing. But I managed to get a look at a few brands.

Acer and Dell while not great they are decent for me. But Fujitsu's stood out from the rest I've looked. I still have yet to see ASUS's, Lenovo's and Samsung's. Some recommended HP but I'm trying to stay away from HP. And I also expect something good from Samsung and Asus. Asus's other features namely Chiclet k/b really interests me.

The Fujitsu's display is rated at 220nits(I'm not entirely sure what this means) and I read somewhere that Acer's 4820TG is rated at 200nits. And I can see their difference. Another salesman also told me that Toshiba and Fujitsu are using same grade display. Not sure if this is true.

Some would argue to invest more to get Dell's Studio. But I don't want to spend that much.

I would be using the laptop for office and photo editing. I would also prefer to have a dedicated GFX card though I won't do much gaming on it anyway. It's just to speed up CS5. But if I can get better gfx, then its a plus.

I really appreciate your opinions as I don't have the time to take a look myself. In my place, the computer shop is bad. Not much to choose from. Even SENQ has more models than computer shops.

I hope you guys can give me some inputs regarding this issue.

Thanks.

PC Slowdown

Hello all,

Would like to ask you guys something.

My system is listed below. And have been having this slowdown problem for quite some time now.

My problem is the system feels slow and sluggish. When booting into windows, my AMD X2 245 with an old 160GB HDD + 2 GB RAM boots up faster.
They are using original XP with a customised XP ISO. I believe they are the same OS.

Also when playing game (specifically MW2 cause that's the only game I play now), some maps with large open space+trees+leaves tend to suffer from FPS drop. And most of the time, my friend's PC with E7200 and Radeon 4850 loads the map faster than me. My friend's 4850 never suffers this situation or rather lesser impact of FPS drop.

To add, there are some times my AMD machine loads warcraft III faster than my main system.

I'm not sure if I've been clear about the problem. But the obvious slow boot time really bugs me. This also occurs when Windows startup. I have only a few things to load @ startup and it loads slowly.

I started to suspect it must have been something to do with my Hard disk. I defragged it and the fragmentation went down to 2% from 42%

Then I also updated my Mobo's BIOS to get rid of any compatibility issue. Upgraded Ati catalyst to the latest version.

So basically I tried everything to minimise the slowdown.

Have you guys encountered similar situation? If so, did you manage to fix it somehow?

I do suspect the HDD is the culprit but my old system is using a 160GB HDD from like...5 years ago and still it loads faster.

I'm really bugged right now and I feel like I'm not getting the performance that I should be getting.

Any input is very much appreciated.

Cheapest Rig

Hello all,

Would love some opinions from Pros here. Is it possible to get Proc+RAM+Mobo+GC for around RM 600?

I already have the casing+PSU(300W TruePower) dated back @ 2004. Will there be any issues on the connectivities(wires, cables and such)?

It's better to have a decent GC for some light gaming. I don't really care whether it is AMD or Intel. AMD is cheaper so I might be able to get a better GC.

As for RAMs, 2GB is ok for the time being.

The PC will be used for torrent mostly and some light gaming.

I'm ok with 2nd hand parts but I can't find any deal @ Garage sales.

Thanks.

Parking space and mosque @ Jalan Ampang

Hey,

I would like to know the nearest/best car park space around Cap Mall. I'll be working around there soon and would like to know where to park my car.

I know a place near KLCC which charges flat rate. But I will need to take LRT to Dang Wangi and walk to my workplace.

Also, where is the nearest mosque? For Friday prayers.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I want to ask fellow /k/ whether any of you heard/know something about the mentioned company.

My friend is currently "working" in that company and today is her 2nd day. We did a search and found out that people have been reporting the company as an illegal FOREX company.

She's really afraid that the company really is an illegal one.

So, any thoughts about this?

ATi CCC

Hello all,

I recently upgrade my driver from vanilla 9.3 to tweakforce's 9.3 and then straight to the new 9.4.

Would like to ask ATi users here, does the new 9.4 comes with On screen display(OSD) just like FRAPS?

I got FPS reading on the left corner and system time on the right corner of the screen.

Can you guys reconfirm that the 9.4 comes with this OSD or was it because of tweakforce's version? And please suggest a method to disable this OSD readings.

FYI, I don't have any other 3rd party tools e.g ATi Tray tools installed.

Thanks.

TM's new streamyx offer

Hello all,

I apologise first if this has been discussed before. And I found nothing regarding this from streamyx's official website.

Ok,

I just got a phone call from streamyx's CC and the girls asked me regarding fixed IP for current home users.

She explained that our current IP is shared among 4 other users. So, she asked me whether I am interested in subscribing to the package. She was just doing a survey for the service. And I told her, that if the quality of service will be improved, I might be interested.

So, anyone else received this type of call before? Is it good to subscribe to the service? I'm sure there are some pros and cons.

Let's discuss it here.

Thanks.
