Dell Inspiron 1420 gpu problem

My dell inspiron 1420 which is now 2 years old probably has some problems with the graphic processing unit.
My screen got distorted 2 days ago and my laptop hang after that.
At the beginning, restarting or forcing off my laptop and then starting back it could solve the problem.
But it got serious on the next day and the screen went totally dark with only sound can be heard without image.
I tried to direct the image to an external monitor and the image can be shown but still it is badly distorted and the words can barely be read.

I was told that it is probably caused by the burning my graphic processing unit due to overheating.
And if i weren't wrong, for dell insipron 1420 the graphic card is integrated in the motherboard right?
By repairing i would have to change the whole motherboard which will cost a bomb.
Any ideas to solve this problem?
Or getting a new laptop will be a wiser choice?

Thanks a lot for assisting in advanced!

NTU scholarships interview

Hello there~~~

I've just got the email from NTU notifying me that I am shortlisted for the NTU scholarship interview in Kuala Lumpur on the next wednesday.
Would like to ask does anyone here get the interview also?
I'm quite nervous about that and I don't really know how to get prepared, totally indulged in anxiety which i dont know why am I so >.<

I guess thread like this is quite common, but I have to create a new post because I couldnt find any thread about NTU Nanyang/Asean scholarship
for year 2010 in this forum.

It will be even better if some seniors who have gone for the interview before can share their experience, and also their outcomes for the scholarship.

Thanks in advanced!!

Need some feedbacks for some local universities

Well,as STPM results have been released yesterday, now the main concern for stpm-leavers would be on choosing courses n universities.
And upon this i would like to garner information from lowyat forumers,as much as i can. Thanks in advance.

First of all,i would like to know that for a physics student, getting a cgpa between 2.5-2.9,is it possible for him/her to get good courses in local universities? I was being told that with results like that,we will have to choose courses that are offered in not-so-renowned universities like UTHM,UTeM and so on.So it will be the best if i can get some comments on the overall quality(environment, quality of courses and lecturers, job prospects for graduates etc) on some universities that offer technical courses and engineering courses like UTHM,UTeM,UMP,UMT and UMS.

Secondly, for students who took biology in stpm, and scored cgpa around 2.5-2.9 also, seem like have no other choices but to opt for courses like forestry, marine, humanities and social sciences? Moreover, only new or universities with mediocre qualities that offer these courses for them.Other universities like UM,UKM and UPM need minimum requirement of 3.0 cgpa to apply. It looks like the prerequisites arent low and the cgpa of students that were being taken for previous years were much much much higher than the min requirement.Does it really mean that for them it's like...hopeless??

Opinions and comments are seriously in need and deeply appreciated. Thanks!!!

Can any expert in Physics please help me in this?
I'm very confused in how to determine the direction of reaction force at the pivot.
From my reference book, sum of the reaction forces r in the direction in quadrant 4 but sum r in quadrant 1 for the almost similar questions.

I attach the questions i've drawn in this thread and thanks for your help!

PHYSICS SOLVED.Questions on Chem&Maths

Can anyone please help me on this?

An object moves along a straight line withm constant acceleration. Its initial velocity is 20m/s.After 5.0s,the velocity becomes 40m/s.Determine the distance travelled during the third second.

I tried using the equation s=ut+1/2at(square) but the answer i got differs from the answer given, which is 10m.

another similar question which i hav tried usign the same equation:
A car which is initially at rest ,starts to move along a straight line with constant acceleration. It reaches a velocity of 60m/s after travelling through a distance of 100m.Determine the velocity of the car at the third second. The answer given is 54m/s.

I quite disorientated in these as some similar questions hav been successfully solved using the equation but some couldn't.Thanks in advance.

Those Physics questions above were solved, thanks. Now the time for Chemistry and Mathematics....Thanks for helping

MATHS:
Show that if x if real, the expression [(2x-5)(x+1)]/(x-1) can take all real values.
I'm having problem with the factorisation part.

CHEMISTRY:
An iron nail was dissolved in excess dilute sulphuric acid to produce 100cm^3 solution.A sample of 10cm^3 of this solution required 4x10^-4 mol of potassium manganate(VII) for complete reaction.
Fe(s)+H2SO4(aq)------>FeSO4(aq)+H2(g)

5Fe2+(aq) + MnO4-(aq) + 8H+(aq)------------->Mn2+(aq) + 4H2O(l) + 5Fe3+(aq)

If the mass of the nail used was 1.45g,calculate the number of moles of Fe2+ produced in the reaction.

The answer given:
Number of moles of Fe2+ reacted=5 x (4 x 10^-4) x 10=0.02

I dun understand the solution.I thought it has to b calculated using the first equation, since that equation shows the formation of Fe2+ ions.
I have 1 problem about the derivation of physical equation.I cant solve it,can anyone help me?

The frequency,f of the note produced by a stretched string depends on its length,l ,the tension T of the string and the mass per unit length,m of the string.Use the method of dimension to derive an equation of f.

The answer given is f=k/l times square root of (T/m)
