Advice: Home Mesh Configuration (TIME)

Hi all,

Was hoping to get some advice / thoughts on my proposed mesh configuration in my house.
I am currently using TIME 500mbps plan where my contact is eligible for re-contracting with free devices.
Once I, recontract they will provide me with one Wifi 6 node (Huawei HG8145X6) and one Wifi 5 node (Huawei WA8021V5).

My plan:
1. Main router (Wifi 6 Node) located at Family area
2. I already have Cat 5e cable run from main router location to Bedroom 2 and Guestroom
3. Will purchase additional 2 x Wifi 6 Node (RM 719) to be used at bedroom 2 and guestroom via ethernet backhaul
4. Wifi 5 node to be used at entrance terrace via wireless backhaul

Would this be an ideal plan or instead of purchasing two additional wifi 6 nodes from TIME, to go for another brand / solution?
The TP-Link Deco X60 3-pack is RM 1.5k, but I was thinking by spending half of that would I achieve the same result?

Thanks for your thoughts

Hi Guys,

Would like to ask some feedback.

This is my current set-up:
- Main router in living room
- Room 1 with PC is ~12m straight line distance from router with 1 wall separation
- Room 2 with PS4 is ~10m straight line distance from router with 2 wall separation

Option 1:
- Run 2 x Cat6 cable from router to both room locations
- Estimated cost RM 420 (quoted by networking supplier)

Option 2:
- Purchase WiFi 6 Router (TPLINK AX20?)
- Purchase WiFi 6 network card for PC in Room 1 (TPLINK TX50E?)
- Use existing Powerline Adapter for Room 2 PS4 gaming
- Estimated cost RM 428

I may elect to purchase a WiFi 6 Router anyway to replace the TP-Link EC230 from TIME.
If this is the case, then Option 2 will only cost me RM 150 vs RM 420 (for cabling)

House type: Condo
Size of house: 3800 sqft / 1 floor
Main Usage: Gaming, P2P Torrent, 2K/4K Streaming
Number of devices connected to router: 10 - 15
Internet Speed: 500 mbps

Any thoughts / feedback on which way I should go?
Thanks

Gaming Headset Recommendation

Hey guys, I've never been very picky with what headphones/headsets that I use, but I'm now looking for a decent gaming headset to go with a new rig that I am building.

My budget is around RM200-250.

As I do not have a soundcard in my new rig, I will be using the onboard soundcard in the new P67 chipset. Therefore, I am unsure if the sound quality of a USB headset will beat that of a normal analogue one.

I am basically looking for a headset that has decent mic quality and if possible good sound quality. I listen to alot of bass-y music so the bass quality of the headphones is also important. I do not mind using closed or open headsets.

It is however very important that the headset earcups completely cover my ears as I find the ones that sit on the ears are uncomfortable.

Also I will be going back to Australia in a week and the availability of headsets there will also be wider as I have an easy option of ordering stuff online.

Thanks for the help.

Hi there guys,

I'm getting ready to purchase a new rig and I would appreciate it if I could get some opinions on the hardware choices I have made. Any other suggestions or recommendations are welcome =)

Processor : Intel i5-2500K
Mobo : Asus P8P67 Pro
RAM : 8GB (2x4GB) Patriot Viper Xtreme 2000MHz CL9
SSD : 120GB OCZ Vertex 2
HDD : 2 x 1.5TB Western Digital Green (I already own one)
GPU : HD6970 or HD6950 (will flash to 6970) or GTX570
PSU : Cooler Master 800W Silent Pro Gold
Casing : Cooler Master HAF 912A
Cooler : Cooler Master V6GT
Monitor : Samsung 21.5" LED Monitor
Mouse : Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse
Mousepad : Razer Scarab Hard Mousepad

I will probably sli/crossfire my card in the future so I'm hoping that 800W of power will be sufficient.
I don't know if I want to spend so much extra money to get an i7-2600K or not, not sure if it's worth it, I'll probably just OC my i5.
Please tell me what you guys think! whether I should be saving money on some other components and putting it elsewhere.
Thanks.
By the way, my budget is roughly around RM6500 but some items will be bought in Australia as I can't ship over things like the casing and monitor.

Opinions on High End Gaming PC Spec

Hey guys, I'm planning to purchase a new PC in the coming weeks and I just want to get some opinions on the parts I have chosen.
Also I am unsure if it is a good time to buy a PC now or should I wait a couple of months as these parts have been out for quite some time already.
The specs that I have chosen are:

Intel Core i7 930 RM953
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R RM799
6GB DDR3-2000 G.Skill Trident RM704
Kingston V Series G2 128GB SSD RM879
DVD-RW RM75
Sapphire HD5870 Vapor-X RM1439
Silverstone Strider Plus 850W RM649
Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 RM209
Samsung 21.5" P2250 HD Monitor RM541
Coolermaster HAF 932 Casing RM487

Total RM6736

I already have a WD Green 2TB HDD so I do not need to purchase an additional hard drive.

An alternative set up is to replace the processer, motherboard and ram with:

Intel Core i5 750 RM663
Gigabyte P55A -UD4P RM739
4GB DDR3-2000 G.Skill Trident RM487

Resulting in savings of roughly RM568. The reason behind this is I read that the Intel i5 750 can be overclocked to very high speeds exceeding that of the i7's. However doing so would mean the inability to take advantage of the X58 chipset and tripple channel memory.

I am also considering Crossfire-ing the HD5870 in the future (maybe 1 year+ down the road) for increased performance. Thus why I chose a high wattage PSU.

Oh and I will be overclocking the system, but not to its limits though.

Just wanna know what you guys think. Is this system optimal? And is now a good time to be buying a new PC?
Thanks.

LED Backlight on my Laptop not functioning

Hey guys,

I own a BenQ Joybook S42 and recently i cracked the display. After scouring around Lowyat and asking around in the forums I was unable to find a replacement display in Malaysia, so I ordered my own one from a supplier.
The screen arrived and I fixed it in myself, doing so very carefully (I have replaced laptop displays before). However this was my first time replacing an LED backlit LCD display. Upon startup of the laptop, I found that the backlight of the display was not working (shining a light or looking closely on the screen, the picture seems perfect).
I can't seem to see any problems with the assembly unless I'm missing something. As LED displays do not require an inverter for backlight power, can anyone tell me where that power source comes from? Is it supplied together with the video feed from the video cable? That is the only thing that is connected to the display. I am currently trying to figure out if it is a defect in the new screen i ordered or a problem with the assembly or damage to the connector.
If the new screen is the problem, I have to find out asap and send it back.
Problem is I don't know how to figure that out. I have tried connecting my old display back into the laptop but it does not seem to work at all. Before this the old screen was cracked but when turned on, the backlight was still functioning. (The screen could be showing video but its just too messed up that I can't see anything). Or the old screen could have just died from mishandling (it was already cracked anyway so i didnt really take much care of it).
I am currently waiting on a reply from the BenQ support center.
As I am not in Malaysia (im in Australia) it's not that easy to find a laptop service center that I can send it too (without spending a bomb).
Alternatively I could send it back to BenQ here, but I think my warranty just expired about a month ago.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Laptop Screen Cracked

Hey guys, I just recently accidentally cracked my laptop screen (Liquid inside cracked) and I was wondering where would I be able to send it to replace the screen.
I just bought my laptop earlier in the year so I don't really want to replace the entire thing..
My laptop model is a BenQ Joybook S42 which I purchased from a shop in Lowyat.
It is using a 14.1" UltraVivid widescreen (WXGA 1280x800) display. Im not that fussy about whether the replaced screen is an original benQ screen or not. Just want to get it fixed QUICK.
If it is much cheaper to install the screen myself I am able to do that too.
Just hoping someone can recommend me a good laptop repair shop or somewhere that I can purchase the screen myself.
Any price ranges would be nice too. =)
Just for your information, the laptop is still under warranty (but not that it will cover this anyway).
Appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance

Laptop Recommendation. Budget ard 4k

Hi guys, just hoping I get can get some help in choosing a new laptop.
Im a gamer and I have a high end desktop pc here in australia but I need a laptop good enough to play games while im back in malaysia and occasionally over here while im out at a friends place or something.

So I decided I want to get one around RM4000. And I want one around 15" in size. 17" is too heavy.

Since I currently own a Dell Inspiron 6000, I immediately jumped to Dell for my first choice. I like their technical support and their international warranty. The only laptop at the moment that seems to be adequate is the Dell XPS 1530. Which I configured with 3GB Ram and a 256mb geforce 8600M GT. It is priced around RM3700 which is quite cheap. However, the processor is quite outdated and I was looking for something with an intel centrino 2 processor.

Then I jumped to Asus, the laptops i found adequate were:
Asus M50Vn
Asus M50Vm
Asus G50V
Asus G1Sn

I don't know the prices though as they aren't stated on the website. All these models come with centrino 2 processors (except G1Sn) and either a Geforce 9600 or better (excluding G1Sn). The G1Sn more closely resembles the Dell XPS 1530 but I think it is cheaper so just put it in there first.

Then Acer, I haven't really looked but I think the Acer Aspire 6920G is not bad.

And reading up some gaming laptop news, MSI GT627 popped up as a new gaming laptop from MSI (don't know whether reliable or not though).

Oh and since im currently studying in australia, there are other gaming laptop options available too, such as Zepto, Alienware and Metabox Laptops
Most of these laptops are abit over my budget though.. but now AUD > RM is low only 2.3 so its a good time to buy. lol

So these are the choices I have looked at. Wondering if anyone can help me choose or recommend something better (at a reasonable price). Thanks for the help =)
ADSL2+ Modem WIFI Router Recommendations

Wondering if you guys can help me out to choose a new modem router for use in my apt in Melbourne.

Currently, im using a Billion Bipac 7300 (non wireless) modem with a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The modem is used in bridged mode.
The modem i am currently using gets great sync speeds for my ADSL2+ connection with downstream around 19Mbps as i stay less than 1km from the exchange.

However, the modem or router does not support enough number of maximum connections, therefore not allowing me to download many torrents/P2P at one time as it will overload the NAT table. I also can't play online games and download torrents/P2P. Also sometimes when im downloading torrents, i am unable to browse webpages. This is not due to the bandwidth that P2P uses, just that the NAT table too many connections edi.

As for my wireless router, the WIFI seems unstable and will disconnect every once in awhile, sometimes every 30mins. I guess the fact that there are roughly 30 wireless networks which are in range does interfere with the stability of the wifi.

So anyway, wondering if someone could help me find a solution, either buy a new modem router 2-in-1 device or get a new modem and router and use the modem in bridged mode (this lessens the load on the modem thus allowing more max connections) or help me work with the equipment i have now.

Oh and can someone also recommend me a good line filter so i can achieve higher sync speeds? =D

Any help is appreciated =)

ps. For new modem, probably looking for a modem that has a NAT table larger or equivalent to 1500.

Internet in Melbourne

Hey yall wondering if any of you here are currently residing in melbourne and can recommend me a good internet service provider to get internet..
im not really sure where i will be staying yet but i think it will probably be Carlton Melbourne College(CMC) or Arrow on Swanston. At CMC there is an isp that offers cable internet that just uses a standard RJ-45 cable without using any cable modem. The package i was interested in is the 480k/480k unlimited bandwidth package. it cost 65aus dollars a month. it seems to be the only unlimited package they have. But if im staying at Arrow, im not really sure how to get internet connection. I need a package that offers unlimited bandwidth and ok speed. I will probably be sharing it with another person so 2 ppl using lor..
thanx for your help
