Hi all,
I haven't build a PC before, but planning to.
This is a brief specification of the PC
Budget AUD1500 (http://www.msy.com.au Parts list)

Mobo Gigabyte EP35-DS3 $139
CPU Intel Q6600 $299
Memory 4G 667 Kingston DDR2 $102
HDD Maxtor 160G $58
VGA 512MB 8600GT Generic $93 (do I have to use Leadtek/asus/G-b or Generic is fine?) (whats the difference 1G and 512MB if there's no gaming on this PC)
LCD Monitor (getting frm a friend $10
Speaker ALTEC lancsing 151 $55
Network card Asus PCMCIA WL-106GM MIMO Wireless $45
Keyboard $7
System cooling....which shd I buy and do I need one? Do I need to buy thermal compound?
Power supply Thermaltake 430W $39
Also, what casing should I buy?

This PC would probably last another 4 years before the next upgrade...

Appreciate any comments!

Building a PC

Hi all,
I haven't build a PC before, but planning to.
This is a brief specification of the PC

Motherboard Gigabyte G31M-S2L
CPU Intel 775 pin E series E6850 (in comparison to the Quad Core series, e.g. Q6600, which runs faster if the PC is used for only normal stuff like MS oFfice products, no games, intending to put Vista in it) (does AMD give a similar performance in comparison to Intel?) ( there are other E models, like E6550, E6750 would those be sufficient if there's no games in the PC)
Memory 4G 667 Kingston (I've been advised to use 4G if i intend to have Vista)
Maxtor SATA 160G
- do i have to buy a separate VGA card? I know the motherboard has inbuilt, but my bf said that its better to buy a motherboard that doesn't have integrated VGA and buy a separate VGA.
19" Acer P193WB Gloss Piano black monitor
- do I have to buy another separate system cooling? I know the motherboard has , but do I need another separate one?
- how much watt of power supply do I need?

This PC would probably last another 4 years before the next upgrade...

Appreciate any comments!
