my friend owned a cafe, he's using streamyx with fixed IP, but his internet connection keep drop by using the modem provided by TM.
he wants to get a new one, and this is his concern:

solution for too many HDDs

currently i have 1 SSD, 5 HDDs, and 1 DVD ROM(might change to external)

in near future i will keep add in more HDD for RAID 1(back up) and space, my casing can support up to 10-13 drives(if use 4 in 3 module), by then i need more sata port by adding them at PCI slot, power supply might be another issue too.

I have a lot of movies, lossless audios, photos, projects source code..etc to back up. my HDD used to failed me once, and 60% of the files i din't do backup(lack of space, and didn't expect it failed without any signal), i dun wan that to be happened again.

so, what is my best long term solution for my case?

NAS?
1. expensive
2. easy to maintenance
3. save electricity (only switch on when necessary)
4. need another space to locate my NAS
5. need to support at least 8 bay and above

Use back my own casing
1. cable inside the case might be a mess.
2. open 24/7 (download and remote purposes)
3. cheap to build
4. need a better PSU, PCI to sata port

i personally prefer using NAS, but price is the only things that drag me back

as suggested by ktek, build a low rig instead. which hardware part do i need to focus on?
1. ATX board so that have more PCI slot, means more sata ports?
2. more RAM, more cache?
3. full tower or probably bigger?
