Hi All, I am an IT consultant and may have a chance to get my hand dirty on a HR system implementation few months later. Prior to that, instead of rely on the last min training, or worse still, on job training, i would like to equip myself with some fundamental HR knowledge on business process and functional know-how. I tried to search on the web but it's kinda difficult to find a site which have structure tutorial for HR noob like me. The information is scatter around and it's pretty hard to relates them together. In short, i ain't have a clue where should i start from.

Attending course may be one of the solutions, but as my training budget is very tight this year as i plan to enroll in PMP, i would try to avoid that and seek for some E-Learning or maybe online materials or books.

One of the course i am currently look at is http://training.mim.org.my/2010prog/cal-PP734-2010-01.htm . But i am not sure how well it will benefit me.

Kindly assist me on this, how to progress from an experience IT-consultant but noob in HR, to building the capability until the level of to be able to merge into the discussion of HR processes, understand the user's requirement and even counter suggest on some best practice.

My ideal plan will be something like:
1. Self study on the basic of HR/HCM, understand the functionality, business know-how and process flows
2. With the foundation gain in (1), attend a few days short course about fundamental HR
3. Learn about the system which i will get my hand dirty of
4. Further establish my HR knowledge, technically and functionally through the on job training during my first HR project

indoor Baminton court

Hi all, My company wants to organise weekly badminton for our department. Anyway i am not sure the courts available around my area, can anyone suggest some good indoor court with their contacts?

My office just next to Amcorp Mall. So anywhere next to that area is ok (section 14 seems to have a few, but i have no contacts available)..

newie unix ftp question

hi all, i am quite new to unix and i wish to write an automate ftp that go into 1 server and grab some files. After some research i believe it should be the very straight-forward looking codes as below:

ftp <<EOD
passive
open 10.1.1.10
user admin password123
asc
verbose
prompt off
mget *.txt
bye
EOD

However the problem lies in the "user admin password123". From my research it seems to be able to automate the login procedure, but my situation is that it still need me to prompt my password as below:

p/s: just ignore the Kerberos prompt as i dont think that is the cause, i manualy login also got these message, but i still able to login.

I am going to get myself a brand new PC to replace my old P4 1.8/768Mb/ATI radeon 9200. Anyway i do hope to purchase it seperately and squeeze my budget into around 2K. The first round i will spend around 1.5K for the core items and the second purchase will be the enhancement. Below is my plan:

First purchase:

For Audio i will use my Esi maya 44 PCI. For power supply i have a new iCute 450W. Monitor wise i am using a 17" LCD and will have little plan to upgrade them. I actually got the old Raedon 9200 AGP, but i am not sure is it sufficient (if ok, then save 350 for GC). I will mainly use this computer to do the following activities:
1. Light gaming, eg Dota, CS. Heaviest might be Left4Dead. No Crysis type
2. DSLR RAW photo editing (10MP), using adobe lightroom
3. Online, chating, FB
4. Excel, Visio
5. Adobe Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator
6. Music editing using Cubase
7. HD video viewing

A few doubts for the gurus:
1. Do you think my setting is powerful enough to handle tasks above? If not, which part should i enhance?
2. And do you think this setting will keep me for at least 3 years from now?
3. And actually a noob question: what is the different between cheap and expensive mobo? I dun do overclock. btw is SLI and crossfire do the same thing, just 1 is Nvidia and another is ATi?
4. is 450W sufficient?
5. A decent graphic card recommendation?

Because i already broke my wallet about 4K+ for DSLR this year, and gonna broke another 1.3K for a flash, i do hope to minimize my budget on the PC. Kindly help me. Thanks!

Page from IIS does not support chinese

Hi all,

I have a serious issue with my IIS + ISAPI. I trying to call a DLL for a reporting server, in fact it only contains 2 fields: 1 static and 1 dynamic. When displayed on web, the static field indeed ok, but the dynamic is ko. All chinese characters are being shown as ?????.

Notice it's ????, and not funny character. Anyone experience such thing (call an external ISAPI to display chinese) before?

I really really need your help, especially IIS expert.

Details: Actually it was a window reporting server seating on VMWare. earlier on it was able to display correctly. But after 1 day, because my ichi hand go and install NJSTAR, it straight away become like that.

I had created this simple 2 fields-test template to test out the display. It doesn't work in this sever. It even doesn't work in a newly cloned VM (which seats together in the same VM physical server). But if being to to another establish Live reporting server, it works!!! Really hard to explain. It should be something todo with VM Ware or the IIS it self.

I had try alot:
1. Restart window
2. Restart at VM level
3. RE-install Language pack
4. Restart IIS
5. Re-install my reporting tool
6. Clone again from another established source!! And set up from the raw
7. Make sure my template works (works in other establish machine, but not on the problematic 1, and the cloned machine)

Leather seat or not

i am getting my new myvi around the corner, and was thinking of installing the leather seat..

It's black and looks cool. But as you know here is Malaysia, which it also means burning butts..

So should i stick to Fabric seats or stick to leather seat? any suggestion?

Btw is there any myvi promotion now?

Newbie Question - HD 201

I am new to this thread.

last weekend there was a sennheiser road show in "the curve shopping mall", and initially i was just going to buy the Senn 515(RM 521 + a free RM 16X earphone, which is rather expensive after i did my research.. =P) after trying out a few. But finally i decided not to poked the hole to my wallet and do some online research first. Only then i realised theres an Audiophile section in lowyat.net..

After i spend days days to read through the threads, i decided to skip the 515 because of so many negative comments i found. And mayb will shoot straight to HD 650 next year. But then during research i come accross the HD 201, which is the entry level, but received a cool comments on it. You can refer to the following sites:

And i think i will just start off with this Senn entry series. Now i got a few questions:
1. Where can i get reasonable price for this headsets? Can i get it around Sg Wang area? Normally cost how much?
2. The review shows that a dedicated amp will massively improved its bass(as HD201 is a bass-weak headset, from the reviews), What kinda entry level amp should i get? How much?
3. I am not into DJ funking and hardrock music. Mostly i use to listen to sentimental, chinese pop/r and b, classical, opera (such as plays, paul potts and ildivo), and mayb some slow rock music. So is this a good choice?
4. Whats the decent combination of HD 650 and a worthy amp? And roughly cost how much?

I am really a newbie in this, so need the gurus here to guide me for this... eheheheh~~ 10Q very much~
