I am asking for my friend whom is a foreigner, and he is married to a local. If not mistaken, he has the husband of citizen visa permit and if he works in Malaysia as a consultant for 6 months (with company contract in place), does he need to pay withholding tax? If yes, is it declare by himself or by the company? Does he also need to get a working permit visa for that short period of time?

Hi,

I need some insight with this particular tax - withholding tax.

I was thinking to bring in a speaker from USA to conduct a financial course in Malaysia. I heard that my friend say i need to declare a 20% tax for the profits made from the course. Is it true? Can someone point to me where I can get more information of this? Should the speaker declare the tax, or should i declare the tax?
