CanSino Covid-19 vaccine from this month

PUTRAJAYA, April 1 — Malaysia will receive a supply of 3.5 million doses of CanSino Covid-19 vaccine from China in stages, starting this month, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

He said the procurement of the vaccine is being made in two categories, namely finished product of 500,000 doses, and the rest delivery in bulk to be filled and packaged by local company Solutions Biologics Sdn Bhd (SolBio).

“Through the procurement of the CanSino vaccine which is a single dose vaccine, a total of 3.5 million people in the country will benefit,” he told the media after witnessing the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and SolBio, which will handle the “fill and finish” process, here today.

Dr Adham said the CanSino vaccine would be used mainly in rural areas and areas where it was difficult for recipients to receive double injections such as for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines.

“This single-dose vaccine can also be used for the purpose of vaccinating foreigners in Malaysia,” he added.

Under the agreement, SolBio will produce three million doses on the fill and finish basis to be supplied to the government.

However, Dr Adham said the company still had to comply with all regulations related to registration with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) and the Drug Control Authority of Malaysia before it could undertake the supply of the CanSino vaccine.

“If the company fails to obtain the required registration approval, the agreement can be revoked because the government emphasises effectiveness, safety and quality,” he said. — Bernama

PETALING JAYA: The country will begin receiving the AstraZeneca vaccines for Covid-19 in June, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

"The delivery for the vaccine procured directly from AstraZeneca will commence in June when we will receive our first 600,000 doses.

"The subsequent deliveries will then come every month," the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme told a virtual press conference after launching the corporate collaboration ceremony for the national vaccination programme on Wednesday (March 31).

Khairy, who is also Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, assured the public that the country's AstraZeneca vaccine supply under the World Health Organisation-backed Covax programme would not be affected after India placed export restrictions on the vaccine.

India, the world's largest vaccine manufacturer, had temporarily put a hold on exports of the vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) to focus on meeting domestic demand.

"Our AstraZeneca supply from Covax comes from the manufacturer in South Korea which is SK Bioscience and it doesn't come from SII.

"So, while we are still waiting for the delivery details from Covax, I don't believe the ban from India will affect us unless there is something to do with the supply chain there. As far as I know it should not affect us," he said.

Last year, Malaysia signed a deal to procure 6.4 million doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine.

SUBANG JAYA: A disagreement over the purchase of car tyres was the motive behind the abduction and murder of a senior citizen here, says Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.

He said that the victim has been identified as a 70-year-old man who was reported missing since Dec 31.

ACP Nik Ezanee said that the suspect was arrested on Jan 2 and added that the suspect brought the police to the car on Wednesday (Jan 6) afternoon.

“The motive has been established, over the purchase of car tires that cost around RM1,100, ” he said when met at the scene near Persiaran Indera in Puchong.

He added that the investigation had a breakthrough when the victim’s family reported to the police that his credit card has been used on Jan 2, as that led to the eventual arrest of the suspect in Negeri Sembilan.

ACP Nik Ezanee then said that it is believed that the man's body has been in the locked boot of the car for several days, adding that the exact cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem.

PETALING JAYA: A family has been pining for their 78-year-old father who went missing after losing his way home since Monday (Dec 7) night.

Sha-Ron Low said her father, Robert Low Kon Fatt left work at about 4pm to deliver some products to a client.

“That was what he said when my mom called him at about 6pm when he did not return home.

“When mom called again at 9pm, he said he was lost and trying to find his way home.

“She called him again at midnight and he said he was still lost and his phone battery was running low. He has not been contactable since,” said Low in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Dec 8).

Low said her dad was last seen around Desa Petaling area in Kuala Lumpur where his office is.

“He drives a silver Nissan Sentra with the registration plate WLD8523. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and greyish black pants. He is around 168cm and slim built,” she added.

When contacted, Low said her family has lodged a police report and they were still looking for her dad.

“We are still looking for him. Maybe he is disoriented and lost. We pray that he is safe,” she said.

my card already charged for the purchase and I have received the ipad
now i want to delete my credit card info from their website but it only allows me to change not remove
it doesnt allow me to leave it blank
i check in my iphone/ipad apple id - it doesnt have a payment method in there

any ideas?

IPOH, Nov 9 — It is mandatory to register with the MySejahtera app for Covid-19 contact tracing when filling up using self-service kiosks at petrol stations, the police said.
According to China Press, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director DCP Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said once the people arrived at the petrol station, they are required to register with the MySejahtera app even if they do not enter the station’s convenience store.

“If the people do not register or scan, how will the police trace them if there are Covid-19 cases in the area?” he was quoted as saying.

Mior told the portal that fuel stations were public spaces with heavy human traffic.

He said this made it mandatory for visitors to wear face masks, register for contact tracing, have their temperature scanned and use hand sanitisers.

Mior was asked to comment on a viral voice clip of a man claiming his father was fined RM1,000 for failing to register the MySejahtera app before filling up at a fuel pump despite wearing a face mask.

Scientists carrying out research on the impact of virgin coconut oil (VCO) on people with Covid-19 say the oil appears to be a viable treatment for the lung disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

After six months of experiments, scientists in the Philippines found that a diet rich in VCO decreased the coronavirus count by 60% to 90% for mild to moderate cases, said Fortunato dela Pena of the country’s national science department in a radio interview on Oct 19 (2020).

The study is being funded by the department’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) and led by the Ateneo De Manila University.

”The results are very promising, as not only does it show that VCO by itself can destroy the virus, but it also has a key mechanism in upregulating the immune response against Covid-19,” PCHRD chief Dr Jaime Montoya said.

In recent years, coconut oil has garnered increasing attention for its apparent broader health benefits, despite its high percentage of saturated fat, and is frequently recommended as part of health trends, such as the ketogenic and paleo diets.

In the Philippines, which exports coconuts and has a high number of Covid-19 cases, VCO is readily available and consumed.

In the study, the scientists also found the oil to improve cell survival, adding to its previous skincare benefits of helping to reduce dryness.

The results of clinical trials on VCO will determine whether it can be used as adjunct therapy for Covid-19 patients.

Dela Pena said that an analysis of the oil as a potential antiviral agent may be out by the second week of November (2020). – dpa

Selangor says ‘no’ to CMCO

SELANGOR has disagreed with Putrajaya’s decision to impose a conditional movement-control order (CMCO) on the entire state and will submit counter-proposals to the National Security Council (NSC).

Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said in an immediate response that Ismail Sabri’s announcement on the Klang Valley CMCO had “shocked” the state government, pointing out that only Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat, and a part of the Petaling district showed a worrying number of coronavirus infections.

“The state government is of the opinion that several areas that are still classified as green and yellow zones, such as Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor, are still under control. Therefore, the state government will send an immediate response to the NSC for re-consideration,” Amirudin said in a statement.

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says he is surprised by the government's decision to enforce the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) on the entire state from Oct 14 until Oct 27.

He said the announcement by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the CMCO, comes as a surprise to the state government, which had considered proposing that the ruling be imposed only in the Petaling district where cases had spiked.

"The (announcement) came when I had just finished chairing the Selangor-level National Security Council (NSC) meeting with the state Health Department, police, Armed Forces as well as other agencies to enforce the CMCO in the Petaling district. This was because there has been a drastic increase in Covid-19 infections, which are a concern.

"The announcement on the CMCO in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya earlier was a surprise to the state government. This was because the conclusion of the meeting was that only Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat and parts of Petaling had a worrying number of cases.

"By consensus, the state government views that there are several proposals that can be submitted to the NSC for consideration. We are of the view that the situation in several green and yellow zones such as Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor are still under control.

"Therefore, the state government will give its response to the NSC as soon as possible so that this can be reconsidered," said Amirudin in a statement today.

Amirudin said while the state government hoped that all parties would be ready to embrace change in the fight against Covid-19, he hoped that there would be more transparent communication.

"The state government also appreciates a more effective and conclusive crisis communication involving all parties.

"This is so that all decisions made would not led to any form of implementation uncertainty that would impact the frontliners, the rakyat and even more so the small and medium industry operators," he said.

Saudi Arabia opens first dog café

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Saudi Arabia has once again surprised the world as it continues to redefine the boundaries of public life in the kingdom.

After a series of extraordinary societal changes that included women driving, movie theatre opening as well as international stars Usher and Akon rapping to sold-out crowds, the kingdom now opens its first dog-friendly café to delight pet owners.

The café, The Barking Lot, opened its doors in June in the coastal city of Khobar, to delight animal lovers as there are very few places for the Saudis to take their pets outside the home.

Speaking to AFP, the café’s Kuwaiti owner Dalal Ahmed said she got the idea of a dog-friendly cafe during a previous visit to the kingdom.

“I came to Saudi Arabia for a visit with my dog, but wasn't allowed to walk on the beach with him.

“I was very sad and decided to help by opening a coffee shop for people who have dogs - and even for those who do not,” she said.

At The Barking Lot, the furry pals playfully romp around, while others sit on their owners' laps or wait patiently at the counter as their guardian's order drinks.

In one section, canines are treated to washes and blow dries as part of the grooming services offered.

"The idea of this cafe is very new," said Johara, a Saudi citizen.

"It's a distinct place where dogs can come and meet other dogs."

For Nawaf, also from Saudi Arabia, it was the first time visiting the cafe, which he described as "beautiful.”

"I came here to play with the dogs, which now have a cafe for themselves for the first time in Saudi Arabia," he said.

For the uninitiated, in Islam, dogs are considered unclean animals and are generally banned from public placed in Saudi Arabia.

The kingdom’s once-notorious religious police had banned the walking of pets in public.

However, after the ban was lifted, pets are becoming an increasingly common sight among the people.

The change has also encouraged many to operate animal shelters in several cities with adoption of strays gaining popularity

The sweeping changes in the kingdom has been part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s “Vision 2030” strategic framework to reduce Saudi Arabia's dependence on oil, diversify its economy and develop public service sectors.

Hotlink Prepaid Account Terminated

I forgot to top up my Hotlink prepaid number which expires on the 25th of March 2020.
Only today I realized it. I went to Maxis Center at Gardens and try to activate it back but to my horror, they say cant find my account
I told them there is a Grace Period of 50 days which I am only into the 38th day but they said my number already "not available" in the system
After further checking, they said the last time I topped up was 25th Dec they said its passed 50 days. I told them no, my expiry is 25th March 2020 because
my old Prepaid Plan has 3 months validity every time I top up (no matter how much)

Looks like their system didnt know about this Prepaid Plan or something and now I lost my number, and balance.....

I actually set a reminder to top up -
The reason I didnt top up in time was because I had set a timer in my iPhone's Reminder app to alert me daily until I turn off the alert but it didnt alert me at all.
A single error or mishap wont crash the plane, but when multiple errors or mistakes happened at the same time, tragedy strikes....

So sad, today I found out my prepaid card activity period has expired.
I was supposed to top up every 3 months to keep it alive and I have a reminder set to warn me every day until I clear it
but it didnt remind me at all not even once. Strangely Ive been getting other reminders

Now I lost my prepaid number

If Reminders failed to remind then I cant really trust to use it anymore. For important reminders, I wonder what backup plan is there?
