Hi guys,

My PC decided to stop working and I've sent it for repair couple weeks back. Today, I was told that my motherboard stopped working and that they do not have a replacement that could support my processor (which is the i7-2600k). I was advised to change to a newer board and a newer processor.

As of now, I am pretty reluctant to give up my current processor which I believe still fare well compared to today's technology. My question is, are there no more motherboards that can support a second generation intel processor?

If there is, could someone recommend a decent one that can support a Sapphire 290x tri X-OC card, and also the GTX1070 (I'm planning to upgrade to this)

Hi, exams are over for me and so the decision that i've made is to get a new and more powerful card and build another PC with my old card and SSD (choice 2)

So, i would like to know if there is any recommendation changes as opposed to this one?

i5-4440 - RM 580
AsRock H81M-HDS - RM 179
Any 8gb Value Ram - RM 240
1TB HDD - RM 189
Seasonic S12II 620 @ RM 299
CM N200 - RM150

Also, is the popular card still the R9 280x toxic? or is there a different one now? Can someone recommend me 120gb ssd?

Background : I am planning to build secondary gaming PC that is able to run Dota 2 smoothly. I am in a dilemma now as I have 3 ways to go around it as listed below. Please give your recommendations and which choice would you go about it if it were you. Thank you very much !

Current Primary Pc Spec :

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-2600k CPU @ 3.40GHz
MOBO: P67A-ud3-b3 F9
GPU:Leadtek Windfast GTX580
RAM: 8GB (forgot which model)
SSD: Corsair CSSD-F60GB2
HDD: Samsung 1 TB
PSU: Silverstrider Gold 750w
Casing: Cooler Master (not sure which model)

Choice 1 : Build a pc that from scratch which budgeted around RM2500. (Excluding monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers or dvd-rom)

Choice 2 : Substitute my current GTX580 (gives me model specific problems from time to time and annoys me) to the secondary PC and build a secondary PC revolving it. Then get a new card to replace my primary PC's GPU. As the secondary PC would be used only when guests are over, the occurrences of the graphic card failure could be minimized. Budget RM2.5k include replacement graphic card.

Choice 3 : Use my current Primary PC as my secondary PC and build another primary PC from scratch. The budget for this could be stretched to RM3k - RM4k (Excluding monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers or dvd-rom).

I am leaning towards choice 2 or choice 3 depending very much on : -,

If I pick choice 3, will the new PC specs will be better than my current PC specs? If it is much better, it is worth getting. If it can only fetch the same specs, then I would rather get the RM2.5k one.

If I pick choice 2, will the new PC specs equal to my current primary PC specs or lower? If it is equal, i might as well pump in another 1k++ to upgrade it for future proof purposes.

Note : If it is too confusing, ideally it just means with the given budget, the main PC should be better than the secondary PC.

The issue here is, I do not know where my current PC specs stand (I bought it 3 years back for a hefty price) on the intention that it would last me 5-6 years. My question is, is it worth upgrading now or upgrade later. If I upgrade it, I would want it to last another 5-6 years again. If it's not I would just build a RM2.5k PC.

Helo people,

There have been countless debates over the internet about whether milk is harmful or helpful to your body. I have been naturally skinny and to put on weight, I would like to incorporate milk into my diet. I was just wondering if 1 litre of milk a day would do more harm than good to your body. That's about 600 calories extra a day.

Some drawbacks may include antibiotics found in milk, some growth hormones which are bad and among others. Wonder how much is true to this extent.

I would like to hear opinions of anyone that takes in milk at least 1L a day or more and what they have on this topic. Of course, anyone is welcomed to give their opinions. Would mainly want to hear from anyone having this kind of diet experiencing any downsides to drinking milk.

lightning fried my ethernet port

guys, i desperately need ur help

few days ago, there was a thunderstorm and it happened to fried both my computers' ethernet port, both my computer was on (was switched off before i went out, powered up by lightning, is this even possible?) both had errors.

okay after i restarted it, everything was fine except the ethernet ports. none were detected (device manager doesnt show)

my question is,

1. how to check if other hardware is affected?

2. i do not want to wait until something fails only to find out about it =(

Additional info,

1. my computer is fairly new (less than 6 months) and it's under warranty, the motherboard's ethernet port is screwed (i probably change the motherboard with warranty)

2. no burnt smell that i notice of. ( i assume the lightning goes in thru the router and reach my computer, but my modem is fine - using unifi, fibre optics can get zapped? )

hey guys, i was jus wondering is it even possible to get lower back pain from proper squat technique?

i am 100% sure that i did not round my back.. because i try to push as much in as I can, my back, but i am not sure if I did arched my back by pushing it too much inside.

i may have lifted the weight incorrectly when i pick it up from the squat rack..

feeling a little muscle fatigue around that area and also sharp pain twice this week..

any ideas?

i was watching a tvb drama and it got me thinking..

if your parents death were caused by the one u love.. will u still be able to be with him/her?

how bout a situation where..

your family and another family were archenemies and ur parents were killed by their son/daughter and u also killed the child's parents.. in the end u and the daughter/son fell in love.. do u guys think u both can be together?

so what im asking is..

BMB amplifier problems

hi guys,

I have a set of BMB speakers and an echo av amplifier DJ-7MK2(BMB). The problem is when i play data files like movies on my player, the amplifier switches betwen CD and BGM. The 2 wires from the player are connected to the CD ports on the amp and connected to the speakers. The problem arrises when the movie turns to a BGM scene, there is no sound. Is there anyway to permanently convert the data to only use CD? The same file plays fine on my computer. =(

My temporary solution is to fix Left to the CD holes and Right to the BGM holes so now only 1 speaker is working a time. Is there anyway to output it to 4 wires instead of just 2. I'm talking about the RCA one. Then it would be permanently playing on both speakers altho it switches back and forth. Though the switching is annoying. I still prefer the first option if it is even possible. I'm sure there's a way because it plays fine on the computer but i couldn't find help anywhere else and is running out of options I would gladly appreciate any help.

hey guys just wanted to ask something thats been on my mind for a long time.. couldn't get a real answer

firstly, are fresh fruit juices and whole fruit the same?

secondly,

let say a normal dinner ( rice + meat + vege )

x amount of calories
y amount of protein
z amount of vit

and (empty calories like potato chip/alcohol/cake/ice cream + multi vit + whey) + fruit (for fibre)

x amount of calories
y amount of protein
z amount of vit

if the 2 have same amount of nutritional value.. in terms of the numbers.. are they actually the same? (ignore fibre.. fruits will make up for the vege part)

i'm really having problems eating enough calories a day.. chocolates, ice cream, cookies, cakes are my best frens to make up for it now.. other than my main meals
