andlinux

QUOTE

andLinux is a complete Ubuntu Linux system running seamlessly in Windows 2000 based systems (2000, XP, 2003, Vista; 32-bit versions only). This project was started for Dynamism for the GP2X community, but its userbase far exceeds its original design. andLinux is free and will remain so, but donations are greatly needed.

andLinux uses coLinux as its core which is confusing for many people. coLinux is a port of the Linux kernel to Windows. Although this technology is a bit like running Linux in a virtual machine, coLinux differs itself by being more of a merger of Windows and the Linux kernel and not an emulated PC, making it more efficient. Xming is used as X server and PulseAudio as sound server.

andLinux is not just for development and runs almost all Linux applications without modification.

Screenshot

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

THIS IS GOOD-BUYING IN CHINA

A man went on a business to China and wanted to buy some gifts for his kids. He went to a shop and found a nice looking CD player. Wary of buying inferior goods, he asked the shopkeeper, 'What would happen if this does not work?'

The shopkeeper quietly points to the only sign in English that reads, 'GUARANTEE NO SPOILT'.

Feeling assured, he paid for the CD player and returns to his hotel. He tried to use the CD player after returning to the hotel but it would not even switch on.

He quickly return to the shop and asked for a refund or an exchange for another unit. When the shopkeeper refuse to give either, the man points to the sign assuring him of a guarantee.

The shopkeeper then said, 'Brother, you are in China . We read from the right to the left.'

Turn Yourself Into a Simpsons Character

Go to simpsonizeme.com, upload a photo of yourself and the application analyzes your face, turning you into an honorary Springfield resident.

Here are some tips for you:

1. The site is under a heavy load, so if you keep getting errors, try again.
2. Your picture needs to be at least 640x480, but bigger is better. Go for 800x600 to be safe.
3. 72dpi is OK, but again: bigger is better.
4. Straight-on head shots are all that seem to work. If you get errors, go into Photoshop and pump up the contrast settings. The more, the better.
5. While in Photoshop, removing any random items behind your head will also improve your results, especially if they have a lot of texture. A white wall works, but things like bricks, trees and skylines need to go.

Source: blog.wired.com

Here is my simpsonize pic
[attachmentid=264522]

Just got this from my email... quite funny..

Well, I've always called CITIBANK SHITIBANK... So here goes...It's all
about money for CitiBank Credit Cards whenyou die...

This is too funny! It takes all kinds to make the world go round. Be sure and cancel yourcredit
cards before you die.

This is easy to see happening, customer service being what it is...My Aunt died this past January.

Citibank billed her for February and March for their monthly service charge on her credit card, and
then added late feesand interest on the monthly charge... the balance
hadbeen $0.00... Now it was somewhere around $60.00. Iplaced the following
phone call to CitiBank:

Me: "I am calling to tell you that she died in January."

CitiBank: "The account was never closed and the latefees and charges still apply."

Me: "Maybe, you should turn it over to collections"
CitiBank: "Since it is 2 months past due, it already has been."

Me: "So, what will they do when they find out she isdead?"

CitiBank: "Either report her account to the frauds division, or report her to the credit bureau maybe both!"

Me: "Do you think God will be mad at her?"

CitiBank: "...excuse me...?"

Me: "Did you just get what I was telling you... the part about her being dead?"

CitiBank: "Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor!"(Supervisor gets on the phone)

Me: "I'm calling to tell you, she died in January."

CitiBank: "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply."

Me: "You mean you want to collect from her estate?"

CitiBank: ".....(stammer)" ".... Are you her lawyer?"

Me: "No, I'm her great nephew." (Lawyer info given... )

CitiBank: "Could you fax us a certificate of death?"

Me: "Sure."(Fax number is given)(After they get the fax.)

CitiBank: "Our system just isn't setup for death"

Me: "Oh..."

CitiBank: "I don't know what more I can do to help.."

Me: "Well... if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her... I suppose... Don't really think she will care..."

CitiBank: "Well... the late fees and charges do stillapply."

Me: "Would you like her new billing address?"

CitiBank: "That might help." Me: " Nilai Memorial Park Cemetery (North South Highwayand plot number given.)

CitiBank: "Sir, that's a cemetery!"

Me: "What do you do with dead people on your planet?"
IBM Unleashes World's Fastest Proc.....

QUOTE

While Intel and AMD continue to duke it out on the CPU front, the guys at IBM have unveiled a new dual-core processor that can hit 4.7GHz without sucking up so much power. To be more exact, the Power6 has just two cores, but both of them run at a blistering 4.7GHz - 2.5 times faster than the speediest Power5+ processor. The Power6 also has double the bandwidth and over four times as much cache as the Power5+. Because the Power6 is based on 65nm silicon-on-insulator process technology, IBM boasts the new chip "doubles the speed of the previous generation POWER5 while using nearly the same amount of electricity to run and cool it." To accommodate its new hotness, IBM has also introduced a new server: the System p 570. According to IBM, this machine "claims the No.1 spots in the four most widely used performance benchmarks for Unix servers - SPECint2006, SPECfp2006, SPECjbb2005 and TPC-C"-a first for a single system. Perhaps someone at Apple right now is smacking their forehead as they yell out "doh!" :-)

Quoted from : TechAmok

More Info here : IBM Press Room

Hmm.. IBM did it again. I wonder if Intel or AMD could do such thing to come out with super proc like this. Solute IBM...

8-Core Intel Xeon 'V8' Sneak Peek - Dual Quads - The Processor Arithmetic and Multimedia benchmark scores are more than double those of a Core 2 Duo QX6800!!

QUOTE

If you flip through the SiSoft SANDRA screenshots above you see just how much raw horsepower is lurking under this rig's hood. The Processor Arithmetic and Multimedia benchmark scores are more than double those of a Core 2 Duo QX6800. And the Memory Bandwidth benchmark reported maximum bandwidth scores in the neighborhood of 4GB/s, which is low by today's standards and about 1GB/s off the mark set by the QX6800.

We also ran a default 3DMark06 test and a multi-threaded Cinebench v9.5 benchmark on this rig and were thoroughly impressed. The overall 3Dmark06 score was 13,002 (SM2.0=5,104 / HDR & SM3.0=4,932); the CPU score was 6,556 - almost 500 points higher than the rig Intel was showing off at CES. And the rig completed the Cinebench rendering pass in only 10 seconds, which is about 4-5 seconds faster then a quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6800.

Source : http://www.hothardware.com

The Advantage of Being an ARAB

An old Arab lived close to New York City for more than 40 years. One day, he decided that he would love to plant potatoes and herbs in his garden, but he knew he was alone and too old and weak. His son was in college in Paris, so the old man sent him an e-mail explaining the problem:

"Beloved son, I am very sad, because I can't plant potatoes in my garden.
I am sure, if only you were here, that you would help me and dig up the garden for me. I love you, your father."

The following day, the old man received a response e-mail from his son:

"Beloved father, please don't touch the garden. That is where I have hidden the THING.' I love you, too, Ahmed."

At 4pm the FBI and the Rangers visited the house of the old man and took the whole garden apart, searching every inch. But they couldn't find anything. Dissappointed, they left the house. The next day, the old man received another e-mail from his son:

"Beloved father, I hope the garden is dug up by now and you can plant your potatoes. That is all I could do for you from here. Your loving son, Ahmed".
The Resignation: A "How To" Guide

The Resignation: A "How To" Guide

Resignations are never easy. When you have been part of a productive team for several years, you have a great deal of professional pride in your accomplishments; sound relationships with your colleagues have been established. Now, for your own good reasons, you've decided to move on. But the reactions of your supervisor and co-workers may startle you. Some may take your departure personally and accuse you of "jumping ship." Yet others may shower you with accolades. In any event, you will inevitably be subjected to a tremendous amount of pressure to change your mind and stay.
The rational course is to push through this resignation period so as to get to the other side where your new career opportunity awaits. After all, you have worked very hard to earn this new position. But the emotions associated with such a departure can cloud your judgment. As a result, others in this situation have fallen prey to the "counter offer trap" that, statistically, they end up regretting.

However, properly preparing for your resignation experience can make for a smooth transition. Here are some basic guidelines and tips (complete with an eight step process) to show you the way.

Keep It Short and Simple

If you have given your best to the job, you will be sorely missed. Your resignation will create a business crisis for your supervisor and for those around you. You should expect that they will make every attempt to get you to stay so as to diffuse the crisis. Consider their option: searching for your replacement, training someone new, absorbing your work in the meantime, adjusting schedules, etc. Although you are going to hear how much you really mean to them, their motives for getting you to change your mind are clearly grounded in their own self-interest, not in your interest.

TIP: The sooner they realize that your decision is final and that you are really leaving, the better off you will all be!

In other words, keep it short and simple and make them believe it. If you are willing to engage them in conversations about why you are leaving and what it would take to get you to stay, everyone is in for a prolonged period of emotional turmoil that will scar future relations.

Step I - Write your resignation letter.

The written resignation gives you greater control over the delivery of this message. A letter is tangible evidence that serves to reinforce the fact that you are really leaving. There is something permanent about the written word. Also, a letter is passed around for all to see and realize it's for real. The letter's words help dispel any ambiguity about your resignation as the word travels. Here's a sample resignation letter (again, short and sweet):

Dear _____________:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my decision to resign my position with ____________________ effective immediately. My final day of work will be ______________________________.

I have accepted another position that will be a positive career move for me. I will cooperate fully over these next two weeks to ensure a smooth transition.

Sincerely,

TIP: Never state your dissatisfactions with your employer. Your objective is to leave on a positive note. Since your decision to leave is final, now is not the time to "vent"; it would have no value at this point and may even spark confrontation.

Step II - Schedule a specific appointment with your supervisor to inform him/her of your resignation.

When you enter the meeting, hand your supervisor the letter. Be quiet and let them read it.

TIP: If you are convinced you will meet with hostility, do this at the end of the day, preferably on a Friday.

Step III - Prepare yourself for any response when he/she finishes reading your letter.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Do not forget -- this will be unanticipated...shocking...the onset of a business crisis. You may not be aware of other bad news that just entered his/her life. This may put them over the edge...BOOM! Then again, they might wish you the best and express their envy.

Step IV - Avoid telling your supervisor where you are going to work or why you are leaving.

Any information in that regard will only fuel their effort to get you to change your mind. You will hear all the "terrible things" they know about your new company and what a tremendous mistake you're making. The proper thing to say is that it's really confidential at this point and you will be glad to call them after you've started so as to stay in touch.

Step V - VERY IMPORTANT - Maintain the firm position that your decision was not made lightly and that IT'S FINAL!

Whenever your supervisor(s) try to engage you over the next few days about why you're leaving and "What can we do to keep you?" (which will go on until they are convinced you're really leaving), just bring them back to the point that you're decision is final and that you want to assist in any way to ensure a smooth transition.

Step VI - Don't share with your co-workers any information you don't want your supervisor to have. ("Where you're going, why you're leaving, etc.)

Guaranteed...it will make it back to your supervisor. Then you'll have to defend yourself and your decision all over again.

Step VII - Be professional to the end.

Leave a good impression; don't burn any bridges. LEAVE ON THE RIGHT NOTE. Take the time to speak with each of your support staff and colleagues and express your appreciation for the opportunity to work with them. To the extent that's practical, finish up any outstanding business/projects. Be sensitive to other's reactions and keep your conversations constructive and positive in nature. A little time spent nurturing relationships may go along way towards building the future.

Some people may naturally express their discontentment and may egg you on to "bash" your current employer. Don't do it!

The accepted practice in business is to give two weeks notice. Avoid being talked into a longer notice period. This is going to be a trying time for all; don't prolong it.

Step VIII - Remember...your Personnel Consultant from Management Search is your partner in this transition.

Use him/her as a resource, a sounding board, a counselor. Things may get tough during this period; it can be an emotionally draining experience. Be careful not to let these natural feelings cloud your judgment. If you need to hear "the voice of reason", call your consultant. This is his/her area of expertise: helping professionals like you successfully make the career transition that will improve their life.

And lastly, don't forget...

The Counter Offer is Coming

Count on it! That's how most employers resolve the crisis you've just created. But it's to suit their own needs, not yours. You'll be hearing how much they love and need you which is nice to hear. Just remember - study after study has shown that accepting a counter offer is a trap. Somewhere down the road, you will realize your mistake and regret it.

Be strong. Stick to your gun. Push through this very difficult (yet final) step in your career transition. That wonderful opportunity that you've worked long and hard to position yourself for is right on the other side!
All of sudden, without consulting me and my boss, he himslef reformatted the server and doing a clean install of Fedora 3 .
