PC hang, blackout, image froze

Hey guys,

Hopefully I can get some useful feedbacks here.

For the past few months, my PC, after a few hours of intensive gaming or idle for long hours, it will start to hang. When i mean hang, it could either be a blackout (black screen) followed by a humming sound emitted (from the speaker i think) or a whitish image hang or a momentarily blackout and then resume, but with a msg “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered”. It could be any of these 3 symtoms, however blackout with humming sound is the most common one.

I strongly believe its a hardware issue as I've tried reformatting, changing OS from Win7 to Win8 and Win8 to Win7 respectively but the problem still persists. I believe it could be my gfx being faulty and ceases to function properly after overheat.

However, to also note that sometimes it hangs pretty fast without any long hours of gaming.

Anyone had this problem before?

Unifi via wireless or LAN faster?

Hey guys, I'm about to install Unifi.

Question. I'm planning to install my unifi upstairs, to prevent drilling done downstairs. I will be using my PC most of the time downstairs. So, may I know does the speed differ by a lot if I use LAN cable?

The distance from my PC to modem upstairs will be approx 5 meters, but blocked by ceiling. So I'm not sure if it'll affect much.

Recommendation for RM2.5k rig

Planning to get a rig for suitable gaming and capable of watching extremely HD videos. SNSD fan here =P

So guys, I already have some components in mind that I must have in this rig. Budget around RM2.5k, without peripherals.

Must have:
1) i5-750 processor
2) 1TB hdd or 500/750GB if budget constraint =(
3)4GB RAM DDR3 i suppose to be compatible with i5
That's all =)

I need some suggestions and advices here for mobo and gc.
For mobo, I have no future plans for Crossfire, but ability to OC well is preferable.
For gc, I prefer ATI cards. I heard HD5770 VaporX is pretty good.

Lastly, I have plans in future to get a 5.1 speaker. So what soundcard should I get?

[WTA] No display + hang. UPDATED with PICS

Recently, my monitor loses its display and would suddenly start 2 hang. The display goes on and off several times and would then totally cut off. The PC didnt shut down and is still running.
I brought it to the computer shop and he removed the cover to diagnose the problem.

I tried to open as many programs as I could to see if the problem I experience at home would appear again, but to no avail.
After 5 days, he called and told me the processor is not working which surprises me very much as processors rarely spoil. He also said my hdd contains a lot of viruses which is totally irrelevant to the problem. Without my knowledge, he cleaned my processor fan, claiming it is very hot and charged RM45 (Paste RM35, Service RM10). That is what he always do when I sent my PC there for repair.

He reformatted my hdd without my permission again and didnt save the bookmarks of my browsers and I have to reinstall Windows + drivers all over again which severely costs me much time and effort.

I changed the processor anyway, brought it back home and after several hours of running (with closed casing) the com loses its display again!
I suspect my graphic card is too hot.

So I removed the casing and now it's working smoothly. I believe my PC was working fine in the shop because he removed the casing. So guys, what might be the problem?

Now I have several concerns. If I remove the casing, will it collect dust and potentially damage the parts?

Will it be a good idea to install a fan on top of the graphic card? I'm using Gforce FX5200 and I'm not sure if a fan can be installed on that GC model.
