Russia gets 2012 World Cup, Qatar 2022

PETALING JAYA: International football governing body FIFA has picked Russia to host the 2012 World Cup and Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

The announcement by FIFA president Sept Blatter at its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, sparked celebration by people at the winning host countries.

Among those bidding to host the 2012 World Cup were England, Spain and Portugal, Netherlands and Belgium.

Qatar beat out other countries like South Korea, Japan, Australia, and United States.

This is the first time that FIFA had announced two host countries at the same time.

SHAH ALAM: Female students in higher-learning institutes here are being persuaded not to wear panties on Valentine’s Day as an expression of true love for their boyfriends.

The “no-panties promotion”, being held for the first time, has apparently been gaining interest among the students, who are passing the news by word-of-mouth.

Two students in their 20s from Shah Alam, known only as Ummi and Melissa, said they were aware of the “promotion.”

“I feel it is personal,” said Ummi with a smile.

“Valentine’s Day is a good time to express one’s love. And, what we use or don’t use is our right, our freedom. But we will do what is right. It’s a new world now.”

Melissa claimed that there was already a large group who planned to go ahead with it.

“We will know how many by Valentine’s evening.”

State Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) director Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi said:

“We will not allow Muslim students to be taken in by such celebrations that deviate from the teachings of Islam.”

Follow the US style to determine petrol prices

IT is good that the public is having discussions on the GST, subsidised goods, missing foreigners, petrol pricing and the use of MyKad to assist in differentiating between the subsidised and unsubsidised petrol user.

I am a bit pessimistic with regard to most of the current inflation-related issues. I am worried about the flip-flop repercussions of any decision. We have seen government decisions made and later there is a change of mind due to public empathy.

I would like to offer a proposal on petrol pricing. I am sure many Malaysians understand the disadvantages of a subsidy mentality in the economic sense. As we are going into a high income economy, subsidising essentials must be kept to a minimum and the saved resources should be allocated to new economic spending areas, such as in R&D, biomedicine, branding, etc.

Let us take, for example, how petrol prices are charged at the pump in the United States. In states that are producing oil, such as Texas, petrol prices are the cheapest while prices in the states that are furthest from the refineries are the highest. I am not sure how the MyKad can assist in this exercise.

I feel that states such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor should not have any subsidies at all. The standard of living in these states is higher compared to that of Kelantan or Perlis.

Maybe users in those states where the per capita income is lower should pay RM1.80 per litre while those in states with higher capital income should pay RM2.10 per litre. This would better improve the distribution of resources.

Even with the current pricing and the use of the MyKad, it won’t be fair and it won’t stop the pilferage. Let’s give this a try. There won’t be any incentive for Singaporeans to drive all the way to Malacca just to get cheaper petrol and driving back to Singapore.

As for those in Kelantan and Perlis, issues such as smuggling will still happen regardless of monthly rationing or with the MyKad.

Agree with this idiot? Im a Selangorian, I dont feel our standards of living as high as you think but I can feel that our living more sufferer than your rundown town. This is one of the most ridiculous thing I ever heard, people in city consume more petrol & we should deserve more on the subsidies. City people all rich? Don't forget we pay Tax too! Only stoopid like you will compare Msian with those US, they have their own Goverment policy in each states, do we?

Women with bigger breasts found to be smarter

A STUDY conducted in the United States showed that women with big breasts are not necessarily less intelligent than those who are less endowed.

Quoting a Singapore newspaper article, Sin Chew Daily said women with bigger breasts were found to be smarter instead.

It said the study was conducted in Chicago to find out whether the size of a woman’s bust affected her brain power.

The study, involving 1,200 women, was conducted by a female researcher. The subjects were divided into five groups, from extra small to extra big.

The report said it was possible such women were smarter due to the higher level of female hormones that could result in better development in the brain. ~thestar.com.my
