Add Extra Ports Cost

What's the actual cost for TM to add extra ports? Is it possible for the potential customers to pay for them so that TM will come and install them? Anyone knows what's the estimated cost? Between RM 10k to 20k? Or more?

Maybe it's just too damn expensive, but I'm really curious about this one.

New Unifi port availability

Hi

How long does it take for new port to show up in TM's system? They just installed one behind my house and I still can't register with them. Asking them how long also doesn't help as they said it's different department (basically the staff too lazy to check).

Thanks in advance.

Venturing into J2EE

Hi..

I would like to ask opinions from anyone who got experiences in J2EE. I'm thinking of trying J2EE as part of my new knowledge. I myself has some knowledge in web programming especially PHP (built myself a portal engine back then). I also got some experience in Java itself as I'm involved in developing Java desktop application everyday using Swing (J2SE). During my study time, I've developed a simple online shop using JSP and Servlet, but consider it all gone since it has been years since the last time I use JSP.

So, now the problem is I don't know how to start. I've been reading some stuffs, there are things called web framework in J2EE such as Struts, JSP, JWT, and so on. The question is, which one should I take first ? Heck, I don't even know which server should I use, Tomcat or Glassfish. However, I'm thinking of starting with JSF, Icefaces for the Ajax engine and Glassfish as the server. Reason, simply because there are from Sun and I'll be using Netbeans as my primary IDE (has been using it for ages in developing my Swing apps). So, did I choose the corrent framework and server ?

My goal is to create a web application that uses MySQL extensively. There will be hundreds of people logging in everyday and checking for new informations almost every minutes. Long term goal is to create some kind of a portal that will combine applications into one place. So, any advice for a newbie ?

Converting VB to Java

Hi..

I'm not really sure how to ask this, but I'll try my best. So, I'm creating an application in Java, an app to read Mifare 1K card. We've already got a working application but it's in VB 6. I also got the sample application where all the codes are visible. What I'm trying to do here is understanding the all the commands sent from the application to the reader. In order to do that, I tried printing out the passing values as much as I can. But then, I got stuck at some functions which load itself from a DLL. The source for the DLL, which is a class (a file with .cls) is also provided and all the hidden functions are all there.

So, is it possible for me to add some Debug.Print in the cls file and then recompile it back to DLL and replace the previous DLL so that I can get the information that I needs ? If can, then, how to do it ? I tried to create a new project ActiveX DLL project and load the cls file, but I got an error saying "No Creatable Public Component Detected". Any comments ?

p/s : I'm totally zero in VB.

Database Design and Data Retrieval

Hi..

I need opinions about my database design. I'm currently working on an inventory project. The system is almost finished, meaning that I've designed all the database and codes on how to get the data. Roughly, my main database design looks like this:

item <-- review <-- action <-- in <-- out

Table 'in' refers to the table to stores the information about the delivery of the 'item' including the DO, expiry date, batch number and so on. 'out' is used to record the usage of the 'items' such as when the 'item' was taken out from the inventory. 'action' stores the buying information such as price and other stuffs like PO number.

After inserting around 3000 records for the old transactions (from this January to July), my system starting to take time to load the balance available in the stock for the item requested. So, I started to 'upgrade' the query and ended up using MySQL subquery. The new query did the job greatly and reduced the amount taken to process the query from 10 seconds to almost 0 seconds.

I'm getting worried about the amount transaction done everyday by the system (for the remaining months, another 6000 or more data will be added). A friend suggested to me that I should use a table where the total remaining of the item is stored in a field meaning that I will add or substract from it everytime an item was accepted or being taken out. But I don't think it's possible in my system since if I use that method, then, I won't know the price of the items coz the remaining of the item might comes from several delivery and order which contains different price, DO and expiry date.

FYI, right now to get the balance of an item, I calculate it using MySQL, roughly like this = SUM(in) - SUM(out).

So, my questions is:

I'm thinking to add another field to the 'action' which is like a status that is, if the item from the purchase has been used, I would set it to '1', if there are still remaining balance, I will set it to '0'. With this method, my query won't have to calculate all data, only the data which is set to '0'. Will this work for good ? Or do I have to use calculation in my application programming, not the query ?

Sorry for the long post.. if anyone has any question, I'd be glad to answer it. Thanks in advance.

If it helps, I'm using Java for this system.
