powercords reviews

ok guys (updated!!) with shunyata DiamondBack powercord
since my journey to audiophile, i been testing all kinds of powercords with my amp and dac
here is 3 of most cost effective and good value cable that i have tried and compare in my journey
1) Blacksand Z1 violet
2) Blacksand ZII violet
3) Blacksand Silver Reference Max power mk4
4)Oyaide Gpx Limited Edition Tunami aka red snake :
5)Oyaide Gpx-R Limited Edition aka white snake
6)Audioagile powercords
7)Shunyata DiamondBack special molded hard acrylic NASA technology for IEC socket for extreme clean, grainless and tight bass..
8)Black Emperor
9)Michael Wolff Bohica

[addedon]April 2, 2009, 1:59 am[/addedon]now to my impression
let started with oyaides powercords...
1st the tunami gpx limited ed aka red snake....
brightness is the weakness of it and a bit harsh even it is burn in fully
but it is the most quietest powercord that i ever heard
the blackground really dark and no white noise
great dynamics, could be bright for pairing with certain equipments, very detail and fast soundsignature

the r-7 is basically the same cable as tunami but with c-004 oyaides plugs aka white snake
great wider soundstage, very neutral, clean and not as fast as red snake but no so bright and simmering effect to hear
a good neutral cable if u wan yur rig to be fairly neutral and not so bright

acrolink 4030 with c-004 plugs is the most deeper bass i ever heard in my rigs but have rolled off highs
the bass is smooth and so deep that u can get shocked ...
but in neglect of highs and has fairly decent soundstage compare to 2 oyaides

blacksand z1 is much balanced compare to it's zII brother
more bass deep oriental and on mids bloom lush and without any grain in the highs
very well balanced and fairly warm and laidback..
ZII is more warmer and more into mid to upper highs and thus neglecting a bit on the bass side
but it is more musical to hear and more smooth and refined highs compare to it;s sibbling

The silver reference mk4 max power is truly wat is i call high end cables which oyaide powercords combined with blacksand abilities...
super grain free, dynamic and deep bass oriental and without sharpness of the treble and the soundstage is like oyaide's r-7
warm, musical and excel in details and excellent extension on highs and lows...

last 1 is the audioagile powercords which have almost the cleaninest and quietest same as oyaides
highs r good although the bass and mids need to improve
great for cdp and preamps however i pair with my amp and lacks the soundstage and bass compare to my 2 favourite powercords
hopefully these will help out some of fellows lyn about the soundsignature of blacksand and oyaides

just updated....a new snake has joined the viper nest...
the shunyata Diamondback powercord aka Transparent snake...
as the name suggested it is most transparent powercords i ever heard
i was shocked over the transparency of this cable and it is very treblefree and the bass is tight as silver reference
however it lacks the prat or the fast soundsignature of silver reference
the molded hard arylic is specially design for it's powercord to get rid the grain and imo it is expensive than the oyaide M1/F1 flagship plugs....
designed and made by NASA technology and i quite baffed by it's performance able to beat any metalic material such gold, silver, rhodiums and carbon
the mold is non metalic and thus the transparency is superb compare that i heard in any of powercords...the word here it very consistent compare the some of moody powercords here....

next in the list is the new Black Emperor powercord and Michael Wolff Bohica powercord
the Black Emperor is a new powercord that havent been commercialized and diy by 1 of the respected Headfi's diyers
terminated with Wattgates 320I IEC & 5266i connector
it has the speed as good as silver reference, a bit bright or slight glare on upper highs, very tight mid to low bass but not as punchy as silver ref and very forward sounding than laidback blacksand...however the maker havent burn in fully so the potential is there...it is as good as the silver ref but at a complete opposite side, bright, fast, and forward
last is the Michael Wolff Bohica powercord...
1 word i could describe it......godly....
terminated with acrolink carbon flagship plugs
if u found all other cables r too artificial, too digital, lifeless and toneless....then this will fullfill yur requirement...that all i can say....perfect and very neutral cable....my choice of cable aside with silver reference.....
