There are people with good ideas and the passion to get things moving,
there are people with the ability to structure up plans and get things done,
and there are people with the resources to glue everyone together and get everything started.

More often than not, you have a great idea but lack a team and money. Or perhaps you are technically inclined but haven't gotten your big break yet. Or maybe you just want to work with people with a similar drive as yourself.

I am thinking of having some meetups in May 2010 specifically for putting together 1.) people with a groundbreaking idea that they wish to startup on and 2.) for people with skillsets to bring to the table (ie. technical, design, marketing, operations, clients) and come together to actually make things happen. On my part, I am looking to invest in the teams I believe in by contribution of time, resources, connections and money.

I am tentatively going to be in Malaysia on the following dates:

Saturday 22 May 2010 - Kuala Lumpur (afternoon), Perak (evening)
Sunday 23 May 2010 - Penang
Monday 24 May 2010 - Perak (afternoon), Kuala Lumpur (evening)

I would be in Kuala Lumpur this Friday to Sunday (22 - 24 May 2009) and would like to have an open two-way discussion over coffee over the topic:

Why 90% of wannabe/actual Malaysian entrepreneurs WILL fail within a year

My points of discussion would be:

1. Is the immaturity of Malaysian entrepreneurs in the area of business caused by the education system?
2. Is the selfishness of Malaysian entrepreneurs the result of wrong perceptions observed in the market?
3. Is the naiveness of Malaysian entrepreneurs the result of seeing business as a plaything?

My objectives are:

1. To confirm my observations of Malaysian entrepreneurs shortcomings.
2. To determine the way of which these shortcomings can be properly addressed.
3. To learn more about the Malaysian entrepreneurial culture.

I would like to meet up with Malaysians that:

1. Have something to share and talk about this topic; no silent lurkers and MLMers please.
2. Are also fellow entrepreneurs, soon-to-be entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs and investors; good to hear from what's happening on the ground.
3. Want to do something constructive on a Friday evening.

Can a mod please explain why my thread was locked? It was not MLM, neither is it a scam job and my full contact details are included.

Appreciated if you can explain why so I can adjust the thread according instead of a lockdown when there are so many MLM and scam threads still alive here.

As some of you would know, I have been meeting up with some entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs over the past few months, all thanks to posting here on lowyat.net @ http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/637792

I have seen my fair share of talk-only people, and my fair share of truly good people, both entrepreneurs and soon-to-be entrepreneurs in KL during my trips and I feel that I can and should do more to help boost up the standard of entrepreneurship in Malaysia. One of which is the formation of Project: Senso Malaysia chapter, a non-profit entrepreneur volunteer organization, of which some details are already in my previous thread.

The other areas I aim to help on is more direct, to actually help get people started as entrepreneurs. Forget about all the rubbish of MLM (Red Island, Mobile Wallet, Amway), Ponzi (Sunshine Empire, SwissCash), Unit Trust/Financial Services, Car Wash/Tyre Shops. I am talking REAL startups in the likes of YouTube and Google. I know what you would be thinking:

Q: I don't know what potentially powerful ideas to work on!

The proposed meeting agenda this time round is as follows:

1.) The formal establishment of a proper entrepreneur support group in KL (Project:Senso KL chapter) with the kind support of Carine and Emily, that regularly meets up to provide assistance to each other and to others (charities and social enterprises).

2.) General catch up and chit chat session on market opportunities within Malaysia.

3.) Serious exploration of possible Singapore-Malaysia joint ventures, particularly in high technology (interactive digital media, maritime, etc).

I wish to meet up with budding young Malaysian entrepreneurs for the following reasons:

1.) I wish to understand the entrepreneurship culture and crowd in Malaysia a little better.
2.) I hope to know a few more good entrepreneur and private investor friends in Malaysia.
3.) I hope to find some good entrepreneurs and their businesses that have the potential to scale.

Having stated that, these are the people whom I do not wish to see:

1.) MLMers
2.) Ponzi-ers (such as Sunshine Empire)
3.) Clueless "I am going to make a million by doing some stupid stuff" people who refuse to listen to facts and always looking for easy money
