A SUPERCAR fan has built his own Lamborghini for just £3,000.

Chinese student Chen Su Jin Miao accomplished the enormous feat in his basement, knocking £287,000 off the car's true price tag.

The only problem is it doesn't quite hit the top speed the supercars are famous for — reaching only 40mph so far — or have the sleek finish of the real thing.

In classic canary yellow, it took Chen seven years to complete the project.

Friends and family had to chip in to help buy the parts and he even successfully created the model's famous 'scissor' vertical doors.

Chen, 21, from Hunan Province, said it had been his childhood dream to own a Lamborghini but he couldn't afford one.

He said: "I am not from a rich family or have an amazing job. So one day I decided to go ahead and build it myself.

"In my eyes it is just as good. I used pictures on the internet as a guide for my designs.

"I wanted to make it as realistically as possible with the scissor doors and the shape.

"We have had some funny looks when we have taken it on the streets but everyone has been really complimentary."

Truck driver Chen is a trained mechanic but is not sure the authorities will declare his creation street legal.
