Buying Car Parts from Overseas

Hi guys, I'm sourcing for some car parts from Japan and the UK. For those of you who've purchased parts from overseas, I heard customs are a real pain in the arse on the taxes. So what are some of the creative ways you guys have worked around this?

Alternative for Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2?

Guys I drive a Clio RS and while driving last night I noticed my front left tyre had punctured, when I removed it, I saw that the inner side wall was completely torn. Time for a change of tyres. The car is running on Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2s stock. Besides the obvious choice of upgrading to the Asymmetric 3(s), are there any alternative tyres to recommend? Michelin PS4? Conti CSC5? Or perhaps some other brand, Yokohama etc....

Size is 205/45 R17

Tips for purchasing a used car

I'm in the process of purchasing a used car, my first ever car in fact. I've been looking at a few, test driven already all good condition. According to my research, the current market value of the model of that particular year ranges from 94,000-96,000 MYR. Because the condition of one of the cars is damn good, 3 years of usage and only 13,000 km mileage, we agreed on 98,000. Then, when the salesman escorted me into his office for further discussion, suddenly whip out some big figures which ballooned the final price to 110,000 MYR, which is 12,000 on top of the car price. Now, as a first time noob car purchaser, I was in quite the rush due to my appointments and did not have time to have a thorough look at the breakdown of the additional costs above the vehicle price. What I remembered was included in there was a fee for change of ownership, road tax and insurance (cost around RM 3000+ for insurance). Is this expected or am I being taken advantage of by the used car dealer?

12/9/17 Update: I've checked with the salesman and he mentioned the list price is for the loan application. Actual additional price is 7133 MYR over the car price.
Breakdown:
1. Road tax RM 90
2. Insurance RM 3143
3. JPJ, Puspakom, agreement RM 3900! (Not too sure why this costs so much??)

Road tax is inevitable, insurance 3143 might be acceptable but I do not understand why I have to pay 3900 for the rest?

HR Department hold my salary for bonding issue

Fellow ktards,

A few months back I attended a course that my company paid for, which required me to sign a bond. Prior to attending the course, one of my project managers called and asked if I am ok with being bonded. I said yes but for a maximum of one year, but they should prepare a black and white bond document and present it to me before I would agree to it. He said ok but no further action was taken. I then proceeded to email some HR reps about the bond document and the possibility to be confirmed (I was and still is unconfirmed) before my probation period is over. Since I am to be bonded, I figured might as well confirm me straight away. HR head replied that it wasn't possible because confirmation is based on performance and the bond was for the investment the company paid for the course, in a way admitting that company is sending me for the course just to pass some KPIs rather than trusting me to deliver. Although I was fully aware of the reality, the way the HR head put it got me quite mad.

And so I waited, called a few more times to ask for document again without response. I then decided to attend the course anyway and should the HR send me a less than agreeable bond, I was to ignore them. Woohoo.

Attended the one week course, had a lot of fun and met a lot of people. Back to work after and guess what? Around two weeks later, they finally sent me the bond document. As expected, the T&C were totally different from what was promised and I decided to eff them and not sign.

Later during a holiday, I broke my arm and had a 2 month + long medical and hospitalisation leave. During my leave, I received a few calls by HR reps urging me to sign the bond and respond. Of course I refused.

Went back to work in the middle of December 2016. During my medical leave, I found another job. I quit on the second day I was back to work. My site manager then forwarded my resignation to a senior manager in KL. The senior manager asked the site manager if I knew that I had to pay the full amount for the course + travel and accommodation costs amounting to 7k as stated in the bond document. I told my site manager that I hadn't signed the bond and he then proceeded to forward the message to my senior manager's surprise. Senior manager stated "HR must have screwed up" (Seriously he didn't know? Talk about communications in the company).

Then the games began,

I gave a one month notice. Few days later, HR rep called office to ask for my punch cards (never have they done such a thing). It was the end of Dec 2016 and salaries are released on 30th of every month. To my dismay, I did not receive my salary. Called HR rep and was told that my salary for Dec 2016 would be by cheque (Understandable because of my half month absence due to a healing broken arm) and I would receive it no later than January 7. Days went by and I have yet to receive my salary. Checked again on January 6 (Friday) to no avail, and the next day is a weekend so it means that even if my cheque were to be banked in on Friday I wouldn't receive it by the 7th of Jan. Then HR informed my site manager that HR head will have a meeting with me on 11 January (Wednesday).

I called HR rep and she transferred me to HR manager. Asked her about salary, she asked if I knew about my bond issue. "Of course" I replied...."but what relation does it have to me receiving my salary?". HR manager "Oh, even if I bank in the cheque today you will still receive it only by next week. I will pass it to you directly when we have a meeting on Wednesday". She then proceeded with her lousy mind games, trying to make me feel bad about not signing, as if I was unappreciative. She asked for my reason for not signing and I mention that the T&C were not agreeable and I had requested a few times for the document to be delivered to me prior to attending the course. I then mentioned about their lack of professionalism in handling the issue (holding my pay after promising before 7th etc.), she admitted their faults but said that I was being unfair towards the company for "trying to get back at them". "Do you think you will win and feel happy?" she even asked. I then requested for the discussion to continue on our meeting and requested for my cheque to be banked in. She gave some lame excuse like "Oh, you won't receive it until next week anyway mah." I told her "Even if I do not receive it until next week, if you bank in today I will receive it on Monday at the earliest, better than you passing the cheque to me on Wednesday and then I receive the amount earliest by Thursday". More lame excuses followed "Oh, the cheque is issued to Melaka branch, so you bank in there very fast one, KL slower" I gave up and told her to resume discussions on our meeting. "When we meet on Wednesday, we talk as friends, imagine I am your friend, my opinion is that I will sign if I were in your situation, but then again that is my opinion." she ended.....

My prediction is that she will offer me a more "agreeable" bond document and have me sign it in exchange for my salary. I am waiting to see what she tells me or offers me. The ball is on my court and they should've presented me with the document before I attended the course. Stupidly, they did otherwise. I am sure HR dept is in a shitload of trouble because 3 staff attended the course and only one person signed. Heads are gonna roll and they are trying their best to save their heads. Should I report to labour department if she were to employ such tactics? What would you do?

UPDATE (10/1/17): Was supposed to meet HR manager on 11/1/17 but manager called and changed the schedule to the next day on 12/1/17 where I will be meeting with Head of HR Dept. instead. Now they are dragging my site manager into the fray when he wasn't even involved in the whole mess. It seems opinions are split here, some regard my actions as unethical while others think HR is at fault for screwing this up.

UPDATE (11/1/17): Head of HR called and gave me 3 options, stating that he wants to settle the matter ASAP. He will bank in my Dec 2016 salary by the next day.

Option 1: I pay the full amount and keep the cert.
Option 2: I pay the full amount by installment.
Option 3: I choose not to pay, and HR WILL acknowledge my decision but my cert is made invalid.

After reading through comments, admittedly both sides are at fault. HR are at fault for not doing their job and I am also at fault for attending the course knowing that I will screw them up. I told HR head that faults are on both sides, they did not do their job and admittedly what I did is considered unethical. HR head agreed. I told him to send me the documents anyway and I will come up with better suggestion for a better win-win situation.

I have yet to make know to him my suggestion but Option 4 (my own) will be: I pay half the amount for the fees, my cert is made invalid (I will not be working in the field and do not plan to do so)........

UPDATE (14/1/17): After weighing a few options and gathering opinions. I decided it would be best for me to select Option 3, to forfeit the cert but as an additional goodwill move, to also pay for half of course fees as compensation on my side. However, as Head of HR told me that my salary will be banked in to me by 12/1/17, I decided to wait. Guess what? As of today I have yet to receive my salary from Dec 2016. They are really getting on my nerves, I am contemplating selecting option 3 without my additional compensation.

[WTS] Cole Haan Lunargrand Navy Suede

Selling my Cole Haan Lunargrands due to wrong sizing. Was gifted this pair of shoes and they were too small for me. Too much exposure to the sun have caused the once vibrant blue suede to fade. Condition is not great, the sole is fine but the colour is faded. They retail at Cole Haan Malaysian (Pavilion and KLCC) outlets at more than RM 900. They are however, the most comfortable dressy type shoes one can buy, light as a feather due to the sole having nike lunarlon technology when CH was under Nike ownership. COD is only available in Malacca, elsewhere I would post via Poslaju. For any further enquiries please do not hesitate to PM me.

condition: used, colour faded
size: US 9.5 (They run big, these would fit a normal US 10)...please try at CH outlets
price: RM 250
