Career Dilemma

I am in a dilemma.

I have a 5 years plus plus experience in VB6 but less than 2 years in VB.Net. Currently I'm maintaining a legacy system in VB6 and 1 or 2 small project in dot net. I'm earning about 4.5K

My problem is I've been attending interviews everywhere for a .net developer position but got rejected. This is because with an expected salary 4.6 or 4.7K they are expecting some1 like a team leader who can lead the .net developer team. For sure with a less than 2 years experience in .net I'm not qualified for that position.

What should I do?? Am I supposed to downgrade my expected salary to less than 4K ??? to a maybe 3.5K in order for me to start as a junior developer .. although I have more than 5 years experience in VB6 programming? or is there any other way for me to maintain my salary but at the same time get hired for a .net job???

I'm a bit worried if I'll get stuck doing VB6 for another 5-10 years. What will happen to me if all the legacy systems are migrated to a new language such as .net or java? I don't think any company would want to hire some1 who's earning 6K but little knowledge on .net .. I guess it'd save them a lot if they just hire a junior for less than 3K right?

Select Appointments (M) Sdn Bhd

I have recently offered a job as VB6 programmer. 1 year contract with UNISYS. My salary for 1 year will be paid by the recruitment firm Select Appointments (M) Sdn Bhd. Meaning for 1 year during the contract period I'd be hired by Select Apps. After 1 year I'll be absorbed as permanent staff by UNISYS.

My concern what do you guys think? Has anyone heard of the recruitment firm (Select Apps) ? I know it's a multinational recruitment firm but I'm just worried if suddenly they don't pay my salary since I'll be dealing with 3rd party here.

After 1 year contract do they very likely absorb me as pemanent? or normally they will let u go just like that?

It's a good offer though ... extra 2K of what i'm getting now .. and extra 1K if i get the permanent position.

Is VB6 goint to die?

I am not trying to create a debate on which programming language is better. I am actualy on dilemmas to choose either to continue as a VB6 programmer or a Dot Net programmer.

I am being offered as a VB6 programmer with an average pay but convenient workplace such as no heavy traffic and on project basis meaning I'll be doing lots of short terms projects.

Another offer is a web base programmer in dot net with a higher salary but congested area and long term project.

I am preferable on VB6 because of convenient workplace and I'll be gaining lots of experience since I'll be working on so many projects. But .. how can that add in to my programming skills? Is VB6 going to die where I'll be jeorpadizing my career? What will I be doing in the next 3 years?

Please advise anyone and I really appreciate any comments or ideas. Thank you.
