Laptop Purchasing Around The World

Hello there, I want to ask some opinions about purchasing a laptop elsewhere other than locally.

I will be heading to UK for my studies in Sept. I will need a laptop to work on because my now 6 yrs plus compaq is seriously ageing but running.

I have my own specs that I am looking at but no particular brand yet. My budget range is RM4000 plus minus RM500 max.

My current situation is...WHERE CHEAPER AND BETTER TO GET THE LAPTOP?

1. UK - buy there when I arrive.
2. Japan - I'll be going there on a holiday in June for 2 weeks and have ample time to search and test out there.
3. Locally - Lowyat Plaza for sure
4. Singapore - Goes there frequently as well.

Here are the specs that I am currently looking at.

1. Good graphic card (wanna play games-online and/or PC and photo editing softwares as well as other studies and CAD related softwares)
2. Higher ram capacity (cz have the habit of opening lots of windows, tabs, apps and softwares and running them simultaneously)
3. large initial HD space (cz i've been surpressing downloading for the past 2 yrs) but i'll bring my own external as well.
4. processor preferbly i7 if it is possible.

If possible, please advice me on the pros and cons for each location's purchases, e.g. price (+ conversion/exchange rate), software, OS (Japan no nid to say but I know it's possible to get English OS), stability and sturdy-ability, any brands to recommend for each particular location as well. Oh!! before I forget...the warranty as well.

Oryx Lounge Doha for Transit

As the title states.

I will be travelling by Qatar Airline from KUL to BRU via DOH as the transit point this end of march. My transit period is not that fun as well bcz I will be stranded for 9 hrs in DOH and it'll be at 2335 when I land in DOH. I don't have any opportunity to go outside to sight-see since most of the citizens will be snoozing in their beds.

After searching, I've decided to camp myself at Oryx Lounge in Doha International Airport.

As for reviews, its a mixed of good and bad but I can't be bothered about it that much anymore.

What I want to know is whether I can walk in as a guest and pay upfront or should I make a booking beforehand. Some said need, some (reading from blogs) did not indicate anything about pre-books. Should I pay in QAR or USD?

Also, is there any special etiquette that I need to observe? Apart from wearing decently?

Err...like the topic says...well, somehow since I can't find a single topic that focus on this side of education apart from PhD section which I feel a bit too far-fetched and kinda permanent head damaging ^^;;;

Lets start with me,

Basically I am looking for a place to pursue my Masters..in Bioinformatics (either Next Generation Sequencing based courses or Genetic Modeling/Virus Genetic type) coursework type since I have no idea on what to do for research yet.

I am looking for overseas University preferably France/Japan/US/Singapore/UK/EU. What are your recommendations or suggestions?

Problems is, what do I have to look out for? Modules are quite satisfying as far as I have read through. But I still don't really know what I have to actually "look at". *blur*

Is the application the same as applying for a degree studies? What are the supporting documents and stuffs I need other than Language/English exams I have to take if I were to go to Europe or US?

What about interviews? Do they have it? What to do about it? How to handle it?

Admission tests? If available (I know Japan is kinda like a requirement).

Fees?...erhm, so far I know that some European countries practices free education and that French universities treat international students like their own local students by waiving international student administration fees, Germans practices free education for all (I am not too sure whether it is still applicable or not).

As for course/program/university recognition, I am not too bothered by the fact that MALAYSIA DOES NOT recognise it, as long as the WORLD (including Singapore) recognises it.

I hope somebody could answer my enquiries even though I know it's quite noob and confusing >.<"

Umm....well in our life, there bound to be some formal occasions that we should and will be attending...as such, I'm kinda confused after googling all types of formal wear for every formal occasions....mind to share you opinions and tips on it??

google came up with day wear and evening wear (for attendants...not the bride herself)

Business Dates
White crisp blouse, Black Slacks, Black...everything black =.="

Party
cocktail dress/smart & casual/themed

Orchestra/Dinner/Prom
Black dress (white/black tie <---- I still don't understand this)

Graduation etc.
-have no idea-

Most of the results that I have searched are basically BLACK SUIT/DRESS (FULL LENGTH)

those knee length dress are considered informal/cocktail dresses = informal

How about in Malaysia??? All the shops that I've seen around, carries cocktail dresses instead of dinner dresses

How about other dress codes in Malaysia??? well apart from having an audience with the YDPA (all black and gold)

hi there~ i'd like sum help from the masters in LYN hopefully they can shed light on this question

1. there is this question which my lec gives us as assignments its about creating a program class dayType that implements the day of the week and are able to perform as below:

a) set a date and day
b) print the day
c) return the day
d) return the next day
e) return the previous day
f) update the day/date, store in a datatype object by adding certain days to it <<-- @_@?
g) add appropriate constructors

the question above is obviously java prog..bt my lec wants us to do in c++ which either way i jz proceed with java since i have the prog.

i am able to settle question b) to e) bt i dun understand question f) and g) and i dunno how to do question a) [i mean how to set it differently bt still works parallely?] kindly pls help me

p/s: errr..another 1 more thing...well, the lec, din thought us anything about programming..i mean there's no comp lab session..i learned it by myself thru online tutorials..bt sumtimes its jz plain confusing...ugh...HELP!!!!!!!!!

like the topic stated, has anyone of you guys applied for overseas (not in malaysia) internship?? how do u apply?? hw will they evaluate the marks?? im sorry for asking these cz my uni (classified) they "allow" us to apply bt its very hard and they refuse to teach or even hint us on how to apply for one. bt i remembered an article from the star education paper that once stated overseas intership b4 n unfortunately, i din keep tat article..its now with the old newspaper uncle or being recycled into toilet papers ady TT__TT

another thing is that has anybody ever applied for internship in the police force?? err...the forensic/chemistry dept. any success?? how do u apply?? how r d working conditions?marks evaluation??
