Evidence of unifi bandwidth throttling?

I set up an automated speedtest measurement and recording system, it runs every 15 minutes for 24/7 and has been running for the past 16 days so that works out to be over 1,500 tests.

This is what I see:
[attachmentid=10928270]

I'm subscribed to 500mbps package but I seem to be artificially limited to 300mbps most of the time. The spikes that you see when I get 500mbps are always because I either restarted my router or when TM resets my connection after I make a complaint. However, the graph shows that my speeds get reduced back down to 300mbps shortly after that - sometimes it could last 2 days, sometimes only a few hours.

I've made complaints to TM several times and every time they "reset my port", the speed goes back to normal and they declare that they solved my problem so there's no avenue for me to escalate further.

Is this the work of TM or is it caused by something else?

Strange alarm behaviour

My Vios' alarm seem to be acting strange. The left flashing red light (one of two located at the back of the dashboard, indicating the alarm is activated) constantly flashes even when I'm driving. I don't remember this happening. I thought it would only be activated once I remotely lock the door.

Also, when I open the door using my remote, it will go "beep", *short pause*, "beep beep".

This occasionally happens last time, but I never bothered about it. Now it happens every time I open my door.

Is there anything wrong with my alarm?

ATI 4850 Anti-Aliasing in Windowed Mode

I recently upgraded from nVidia to ATI and found that games which I used to run on Windowed Mode no longer have AA (I have forced AA in both Catalyst Control Center and ATI Tray Tools but it won't work).

Clearly, this has to be a limitation of ATI's part because it used to work fine with nVidia. AA is present if I run the games in full-screen mode, but I need a workaround to enable AA for Windowed Mode.

Anyone has a solution?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm using the latest Catalyst 9.1

Accenture vs Ernst & Young

Given the opportunity, would you prefer to join

Ernst & Young as a Junior Associate in their Technology and Security Services division

or

Accenture as an Associate Software Engineer.

The job scope is rather different. In E&Y, you'd probably end up as an IT/IS Auditor, whereas in Accenture you'd probably end up as a System Analyst.

Which job do you think has the best prospect? I'd appreciate it if you share any thoughts or ideas about it... it would help me greatly with my own decision.

ExpressCard Firewire Adapter

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend, he has a FireWire device that works fine on his desktop.

However, he wishes to plug in this device into his laptop, but his laptop doesn't have FireWire ports so he got himself an ExpressCard (a.k.a. PCMCIA Express?) FireWire adapter. Windows had no problems detecting the FireWire adapter but the real problem is that Windows cannot detect the external device which is connected to the adapter. According to my friend, the connected device managed to power up when connected, but it's not detected by Windows.

I don't have much experience with FireWire devices, much less through a FireWire adapter. Anyone knows what may be wrong?

Broadband provider
Not ISP related

Personal equipment
Modem: DB102
Router: Netgear WGR614v7
Firewall used: Windows Firewall

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Soon after I bought the router
Problem frequency: Every few minutes of internet usage
Problem description:

Here's the problem - I got everything up and running. The DB102 modem/router given by TM is set to bridge mode. I'm using my WGR614v7 to dial into the network. I have one desktop with wired to the router, and another laptop using the wireless connection. The wired connection never has problems (so far), but the laptop suffers from frequent connection problems. The wireless connection would just cease to respond, and the laptop won't be able to reconnect to it until I power-cycle the router. Though when the wireless fails, the wired connection still works normally.

I've tried all kinds of different settings, enabling and disabling encryption, disabling SPI, changing NAT to Open, upgrading to latest firmware... everything and anything I can lay my hands on. The problem persists.

So far I never had problems with the wired connection, but the wireless connection forces me to reboot the router almost every hour. I've searched all possible sites for solutions and even referred to the official Netgear forums but I can't find anything useful.

Are there any known solutions to this?

This problem is a little strange, and I couldn't figure out how to rectify it.

When I perform a chkdsk without any flags, this is what

QUOTE

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)...
File verification completed.
CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)...
Index verification completed.
CHKDSK is recovering lost files.
CHKDSK is verifying security descriptors (stage 3 of 3)...
Security descriptor verification completed.
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the
master file table (MFT) bitmap.
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these.

  40017883 KB total disk space.
  33749476 KB in 148182 files.
     55136 KB in 11348 indexes.
        64 KB in bad sectors.
237296 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
   5975910 KB available on disk.

512 bytes in each allocation unit.
80035766 total allocation units on disk.
11951821 allocation units available on disk.

Chkdsk returned the results which has some errors in it. However, when I attempt to fix those errors with the /F flag as suggested, chkdsk didn't find any errors to fix! (I can't show the results because the scan happens during boot-time). I'm sure that chkdsk didn't fix anything because after that chkdsk without the flag returned the same results.

I've been repeating the process for quite a few times, even using specialised tools such as Norton Systemworks' DiskDoctor and Acronis Disk Director Suite to check but none of them can solve the problem, as they perform the disk scan using Window's very own chkdsk.

From what I can see, the problem didn't bring catastrophic consequences, but I still need to get it fixed because I need to change my partition's cluster size and the utility wouldn't run as long as it detects the error during chkdsk.

I tried to look for even more scandisk utilities but I can't seem to find one that *doesn't* use Windows' Chkdsk, but no results so far.

I'm out of ideas...

Any help or suggestions will be grealy appreciated
